Dark Powers.

Seventeen years ago.

A battle between Voldemort and the light side broke out. The war had been going on for a while and even though everyone wanted it to be over, it didn’t look that way. It looked like this battle could go on forever.

“Daisy, where’s my wife?”

A little house elf, dressed in a short dress with daisies painted on it apparated into the room. With a little shriek of horror she made herself known.

“Master is hurt,” squealed the little elf.

“I’ll be fine Daisy, where’s Viv?” asked the Master.

“Here my love,” came a weak voice from the top of the stairs.

“Vivian, I thought something had happened to you,” said Devon taking the steps three at a time.

“No one would dare come here, they know better,” she smiled placing a hand on his dirty cheek.

“I’m afraid Vivian.”

“Devon Malden afraid, I never thought I’d ever hear my husband say that,” Vivian hugged her husband tight.

“Not for me, love. I’m afraid for you and our little angel,” said Devon burying his face in his wife’s shoulder.

“My love, we saw the seer together. She said our little angel is going to be very smart and powerful, she’s going to be powerful like me and smart like you,” said Vivian a lone tear running down he face.

“She also said we won’t be there to see her graduation or her wedding,” said Devon pulling away from his wife.

“So we won’t let her graduate or get married for that matter,” chuckled Vivian.

“Can’t do that, we’ve already promised her to the Malfoy heir,” said Devon a bit light hearted.

“Master, Master the wards have been breached, wizards with killing in their mind,” squealed the little elf.

“Daisy gather the other elves, set new wards in the house and than leave for our manor in Greece, it was good to have you Daisy. The house is yours in case something happens to us,” ordered Devon.

“Come Devon, we must get away. Neither one of us is in any condition to fight,” said Vivian pulling her husband out of the stair way as Order Members invaded the manor.

They ran into their bedroom but Vivian did not escape a hex that was sent her way.

“Vivian, you were hit.”

“Well that was kind of obvious, love. Disapparate us away, the baby needs to be born NOW,” not wanting to argue with his hurt wife, Devon hugged his wife and disappated them to a muggle hospital. St. Mungos was out of question, so muggle medicine would have to do. Devon had been bleeding bad and apparating took what was left of his life stock, and was pronounced dead as his wife was taken to the maternity ward. The curse that hit Vivian was killing her from the inside out; she died when she heard her child cry.

Devon and Vivian Malden were buried as John and Jane doe.

Seventeen years later, present time.

"She turned seventeen today. If you are right Albus, as you always are, the lawyers should be trying to get in contact with her. They won’t rest until they do, she’s going to find out sooner or later, you might as well tell her," said Professor Snape.

"Perhaps we should wait; we know she’s been adopted by the muggles, and that news in itself is going to shock the poor girl. I think we should tell her about the plan at another time, the girl will be shocked enough with the adoption news," said Professor McGonagall.

"We don't have time to wait my dear Minerva, I'm afraid she'll have to deal with both. Miss Granger is a strong girl and a powerful witch, she'll be shocked but I’m sure with the help of her friends she'll deal," said Dumbledore, the twinkle in his eyes fading fast, the two Professors in the room knew that his hopes were slim.

"But Albus, sure you'd see reason. The girl is much too young to deal with all this," tried McGonagall, but the old wizard's mind was already set. After all, the note had already been sent and Hermione should already be there.

"Ah Miss Granger, do come in," said Dumbledore waving his hand to open the door, revealing the young witch who's world was about to be turned upside down.

"Colin handed me your note Professor, I came as fast as I could. Sorry it took me so long," apologized Hermione.

"It's okay, come in and take a seat," said Dumbledore getting to his feet.

Hermione walked in, the feeling that something was about to go terribly wrong lurking in the back of her mind, and took a seat in between her mentor Professor McGonagall and her potion’s Master Professor Snape.

"Sir, why did you ask me to come see you with such urgency?" asked Hermione skeptically.

"Because Miss Granger we have some news for you that have waited long enough to come into your attention," said Snape curtly.

"Why don't you let me do the talking my dear Severus," chuckled Professor Dumbledore.

"Sir, I don't mean to be rude, but what's this all about?"

"Well, Miss Granger, I won't skirt around the issue," started Dumbledore.

"I would appreciate that, Sir," said Hermione with a curt nod.

"We have made some discoveries that concern you. We have decided-" started Dumbledore, but stopped short with a stern look from Professor McGonagall.

"I have decided," fixed Dumbledore. "That you should know about it. We have discovered that you are not who you believed to be all your life, the Grangers are not your biological parents," said Dumbledore, this time no smile graced his features. He took his seat, and waited for the news to sink in.

Hermione's face was unreadable, too many emotions going through her at once that it was impossible to describe what she was feeling. Until...

"WHAT??? YOU CAN’T BE SERIOUS, THIS IS NOT FUNNY. WHAT KIND OF JOKE IS THIS?" she yelled.

“Miss Granger please refrain from blowing my eardrums,” said Snape covering his ears.

"I'm afraid this is no joke Miss Granger," said Dumbledore.

"Who else knows about this?" asked Hermione.

"Myself, Severus, Minerva and now you," responded Dumbledore.

"What about my parents?"

"Would you like to know about them?" asked Dumbledore.

"I meant MY parents?"

"As far as I know the Grangers have no knowledge about this," said Professor McGonagall with a comforting sound.

"But how can they not know? How can I be adopted and my parents not know that I am not their child?"

"Because Mrs. Granger, the mother you know, was pregnant. Carried full term, but delivered a dead child. She had some complications there for was in a light coma for around a month, when she woke up they handed her a baby girl that had been born three days after her child. No one claimed you, and Mrs. Granger has raised you as her own," explained Dumbledore.

"Why tell me? I was perfectly content until now, why tell me now?"

"First we'll do some tests to make certain, but if my reasoning is right you can be of great help to our side in this upcoming war," said Dumbledore with a small hint of a smile on his lips.

"What are you talking about, Sir? Professor McGonagall what's he talking about?"

"Miss Granger we have reasons to believe that you might be pureblooded," said Snape cutting straight to the point.

"Have you all gone mad? I am Hermione Granger, Muggleborn, daughter of Marcos and Jane Granger. No matter what you say. Nothing changes," said Hermione stubbornly.

"Miss Granger, even thought the Headmaster already knows, if you allow us to run this tests we can all know for sure,” said Snape getting a bit peeved.

“Okay, I’ll let you run the tests, but first I have some questions,” said Hermione giving in.

“I’m sure you have lots of question,” said Professor Dumbledore matter-of-factly.

“Why tell me this now? I’m almost positive you didn’t just find out about it,” was her first question.

“You are right, I had known about your adoption since your name came into my list of students. As you know the names appear when you are first born, it also gives me the names of your birth parents. The only reason I bring this up now is because you being of pureblood would be of great help,” answered Dumbledore.

“Has the book ever lied?”

“Never,” answered McGonagall.

“So if the book has never lied before, why do I have to run tests if all of you already know?”

“Just for certainty, and so you know also,” replied Dumbledore.

“How would me being pureblooded help?”

“We would need to make certain first. But we would like to give you an Order mission,” said Dumbledore.

“But I’m not an order member,” stated Hermione.

“You are seventeen, there for are able to join us,” answered Snape.

“What if I say no?” inquired Hermione.

“We are not going to force you into doing anything you don’t want to,” Assured McGonagall.

“So it’s all up to me. How can I help?”

“We need you to get close to the Dark Lord,” said Snape before Dumbledore could get the chance to skirt around the point again.

“Ha, ha, ha. Very funny, yes, you all have gone mad. Just how do you expect me to accomplish that?” snorted Hermione.

“Voldemort already wants you, so we know he won’t hurt you. We’ll pretend that you have lost your memory, give you your family crest so that he knows who you are. Then, when you return for your seventh year you can report back to us,” said Dumbledore.

“So I’ll have to spend my whole summer away from my family and friends?”

“I’m afraid so,” nodded Dumbledore.

“Miss Granger, look at this mission as a learning experience,” teased Snape.

“Don’t attempt to be funny, it doesn’t go with your eyes,” she told Snape, earning her a scowl from him and sniggers from Dumbledore and McGonagall. “Can we get these tests over with?” asked Hermione ignoring her teachers.

“Sure, I’ll go with you to the hospital wing,” said McGonagall getting to her feet.

“Thank you Professor,” nodded Hermione following McGonagall out of Dumbledore’s office.

The walk to the hospital wing was fairly quite. Hermione was lost in her own thoughts, too big of a discovery in such little time. Lost so deep in her thoughts that she didn’t even realize that Madam Pomfrey was speaking to her.

“Hermione dear, can you hear me?” asked Madam Pomfrey.

“What?” startled Hermione.

“Are you quiet alright?” asked the mediwitch.

“Yes Madam, I’m just fine,” lied Hermione.

“If she’s just fine than why was she brought to me?” Madam Pomfrey asked Professor McGonagall.

“Because we need you to run some tests, we need a blood purity test and a paternity test,” explained Professor McGonagall.

“But why do you need a blood test, she’s Muggleborn,” said Madam Pomfrey.

“We’re no longer sure, please run the tests, I’ll wait outside,” said Professor McGonagall walking towards the door.

“Come dear, it won’t hurt a bit. I promise,” said Madam Pomfrey taking Hermione’s hand and pulling her behind a curtain wall.

With a couple of waves and flicks of her wand, that produced different rays of light, the tests were done.

“All done dear,” announced the Mediwitch.

“What are the results?” asked Hermione.

“As, I’m sure, Dumbledore already knew. You are of pure blood. Born of Devon and Vivian Malden, that’s all that the tests show. Let’s go dear, professor McGonagall is waiting,” said Madam Pomfrey pushing on Hermione’s back.

“All went as expected I presume,” asked McGonagall.

“As you all expected maybe, but not as I expected,” mumbled Hermione.

“I’ll have you know, dear child, that I was against it,” replied professor McGonagall.

“Against telling me?”

“Against dropping this news on you at once,” answered McGonagall.

“Thank you Professor, shall we head back?”

“Yes dear, Lets head back.”

They walked back in the same silence they had walked to the hospital wing. As always Dumbledore knew they were there before they even knocked.

“Do come in, we’ve been waiting,” said Dumbledore as the door swung open.

“What were the results?” asked Snape impatiently.

“The results were as Professor Dumbledore already knew. I am pureblooded,” said Hermione dejectedly.

“Spawn of the Malden family?” asked Snape a hint of glee clear in his voice.

Silence.

Glare.

Silence.

Smirk.

“Good, this is very good,” said Dumbledore, the twinkle back in his eyes.

“The plan shall be a success,” said Snape.

“I have one request,” said Hermione shortly.

“What is it child?” asked McGonagall.

“I’ll go through with this mission, so long as no one tells my parents any of this,” said Hermione simply.

“They should know,” affirmed Snape.

“Yes indeed they should. But it is Miss Granger’s decision to tell or not to tell,” said Dumbledore.

“Miss Malden,” corrected Snape.

“Perhaps they should Professor, but I don’t want them to. The name is still Granger and once this mission is done and over with, I’ll be going back to my old life. I don’t want to be pureblooded, I’m grateful to be a witch, I just want to be what I am now,” explained Hermione.

“So you will help us?” asked Snape.

“Yes, I’ll help. What do I have to do?” inquired Hermione.
