A new Vision

Harry slowly woke to the sound of quiet voices. He ached everywhere and he had no memory of why. He heard what sounded like McGonagall saying that the boy would need a new attitude or he would fail. That was odd, but not nearly as off as hearing Severus Snape respond. He watched the man die. He was starting to believe that he was having a very bizarre dream. The fact that it must be a dream was confirmed as he realized that Snape had actually defended him.

“The boy, as you call him, has simply defended himself. Potter can’t be expected to ignore the attack that he suffered and not retaliate. You of all people should know how he was raised. You had a hand in that atrocity. If I hadn’t found out about the abuse, when I did he might have died. Then where would you and your stupid prophesy be?”

A loud sigh came from the woman. “Severus, I know that you are right. I should have tried harder to prevent Albus, placing him with those people. I did warn him, but I had no idea how bad it would be. It does not, however, excuse him putting three students in the hospital wing. He didn’t need to lash out in such a way.”

“He was attacked, not the other way around. Perhaps you need to re-evaluate your concept of lashing out. One against five is hardly brave.” The sneer was clear in the potions masters voice. “Your house is quickly becoming school sanctioned bullies, is that what you want?”

Yet another sigh escaped the stern transfiguration mistress. “No I am not proud of my houses behavior, I am just worried about his state of mind. He has nothing to ground him, and his friends are not exactly on the right side. I am frightened that with the amount of power he has and the skills that he has leaned that he will be more deadly than you know who.”

“I do not believe that this child will become a dark lord, but if he did, you have as much to answer for as Albus does. The Potter’s left a will, and it was ignored, because you thought that you knew better, it is on your heads. I am going to see my student, it would be in your best interests to see to yours, and help them to understand that they might want to know the enemy better before they attack.”

Harry could hear the man approaching, and had no idea, how to respond. This had to be a dream, but it all seemed to real. Even his body didn’t feel right. It was larger than he felt was right. He had muscles that he didn’t remember earning.

“Harry? I know you are awake, open your eyes.”

Beyond the shock of being spoken to so civilly by his most hated teacher, he knew he was caught, and painfully opened his eyes. Everything was too surreal. He viewed a man he knew was dead, and perhaps more strange was that said man was looking at him with open concern. He blinked a few times and still saw the impossible, and strangely saw it without glasses.

“I know this has been a difficult day, but we need to talk about what happened. I know that they started it, but do you know why?”

Harry was at a loss, he was starting to think that this was not a dream, but an alternate reality. “Sir, I don’t know. I don’t remember what happened. I only know that I woke up in the hospital wing.”

Snape looked a bit shocked but he quickly hid it. “Since when do you call me, Sir? Are you feeling alright?”

“I am not who you think I am. I don’t know you like this. I don’t know what I normally call you.”

Severus looked closely at the boy in the bed in front of him. “What are you telling me, Harry? Are you saying you have lost your memory?”

“No. I am telling you that I saw you die. I saw all your memories of my mother and Dumbledore, I killed Voldemort , I was married with three children. This has to be a dream.” He knew he was getting a bit disjointed, but he was so confused.

Snape seemed to hesitate a bit. “You know that I showed my memories of your mother to you years ago, not too long after I took you away from those creatures that passed as relatives.”

Harry weighed his options, and decided that he didn’t have enough information to lie. “In the world that I come from, I grew up with those creatures. I lived in a cupboard for ten years, you hated me, and you died. I don’t know what is happening, but I know that something is wrong.”

Snape seemed to be in deep thought, before he spoke he grabbed Harry’s hand. “How did I die?”

Harry sucked in a deep breath. This wasn’t an easy memory from any perspective. “You were killed by Nagini. Voldemort wanted to be the owner of the Elder Wand, and he thought you were the one he had to take it from. He was wrong, and your death was needless, but you died anyway. That is when you gave me the memories, as you were dying.”

Severus Snape was not a stupid man. He may have had lapses in judgment from time to time, and he certainly had issues with his pride, but he could be and was mostly logical most of the time. He knew in his heart that this wasn’t his Harry, and as such he had to know why. This boy had already vanquished the dark lord, he had the power and determination to do so again. He didn’t know how yet, but he had to convince this boy to try save this world that was not his own. He hoped that would bring his Harry back, the one that he thought of as his son. The child of the women that he had loved for almost his entire life.
