Enchanted by Elves
A/N: I'm sorry to those of you who have already read this (I accidentally had the AFF team delete the account this was up on (while deleting the account that Luhta Tel'edhelrim was first posted on) and so I don't have the hits or reviews I did xD). Otherwise, for those of you who haven't seen this yet, this is the re-written version of Luhta Tel'ehelrim. Oh, and the ending of this chapter may or may not be touched up in the future. But don't worry, it won't be so much that you'll have to re-read it later on. It'll just look prettier. -nod-
So. Sit back and enjoy the story, which will be updated at least once a week this month and next month, and at least once every two or so weeks after that (college, y'know). And please, rate and review!
On with the story!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Malfoy versus Potter. Potter versus Malfoy. It has always been expected. This family feud is so deeply ingrained, starting from the very first Malfoy and Potter, that outsiders see it as natural. After all, they are complete opposites.
The Malfoy family is, and always has been, associated with what society has deemed the dark. Dark magic, dark artifacts…dark everything. Even the name Malfoy has become synonymous with dark since the first Malfoy couple, Sir Lucius Malfoy the first and Lady Violet Malfoy nee Black, started the trend of doing whatever they could to drive their family’s name into the dark. And the fact that they could trace their family line all the way back to Salazar Slytherin strengthened society’s view.
The Potter family, however, has always been the exact opposite. They’ve always been on the Light side of society’s views. Somewhat like the Malfoy name, the name Potter has become synonymous with light since their first couple, Prince James Potter the first and Princess Ginerva Potter nee Evans, started the trend of doing whatever they could do to drive their family’s name into the light. The fact that they could trace their family line back to Godric Gryffindor strengthened society’s view.
This belief was strengthened when Lucius Malfoy the sixth and James Potter the seventh were born. The young Lucius was trained to hate the Potters, just as the young James was trained to hate the Malfoys. Lucius is light haired and fair-skinned, while James is dark haired and tan. And the fact that even Salazar Slytherin and Godric Gryffindor were rivals (and somewhat enemies) probably didn’t help the youngster’s relationship.
When the pair went to Hogwarts, society knew what was going to happen: they would, like their ancestors always had been, become either bitter enemies or strong rivals. However, society was curious when it was found out that Lily Evans and Narcissa Black, best friends despite the odds, were betrothed to the rivals. Fourth year passed without any change, despite Lily and Narcissa’s hardest attempts to break their rivalry. Fifth year passed, with few changes, most notably the fact that the two could stand being in each others’ presence without immediately cursing each other. Then sixth year passed. In their sixth year, the pair called a truce (mostly because Lily and Narcissa got fed up with the rivalry and refused to talk to either of them until they did so). And then they actually became friends in seventh year, much to everyone’s surprise. A year after graduation, Narcissa Malfoy was ready to give birth to twins, while Lily Potter was a few months behind her, but with quadruplets.
On the last day of April, Narcissa Malfoy gave birth to her twins, one male and one female. Draco Malfoy, the first-born, was as fair-haired as his father, and had his eyes. As a baby, it was hard to tell who his mother was, but as he grew, it was easier and easier to see that Narcissa really was his mother. Even as he was young, it was obvious that he would be spoiled, as would his sister.
His sister, Violet Malfoy, looked more like her mother than her father, though her eyes were actually his exact shade of silver-grey and she had his long fingers. As a baby, these weren’t obvious, but as she aged it was more and more obvious. The bond that she and her twin Draco shared was obviously strong from birth, as she refused to sleep unless she was near him, and the two could obviously understand each other better than anyone else.
Three months later, on the last day of July, Lily Potter gave birth to quadruplets. First was Vilya Potter, who had white-blond hair (which confused both parents) and deep blue eyes, and was very much her mother’s daughter. Even at birth, she would stare off into space for long periods of time, and she was completely loyal to her siblings, even when they weren’t to her.
Next, Alu Potter, had dark, almost black-blue hair (a little less confusing to her parents) and sea-green eyes, as well as a build in-between the two parents, complimentary to Lily. She was the moody child, always unpredictable – but normally calm.
Then was Naur Potter, who had Lily’s copper-red hair, golden eyes, and a build complimenting James’, but blending Lily’s into it as well. He was the fiery child, quick to anger and always seemed more courageous than his siblings.
And then there was the youngest, Harry Potter, who had James’ dark brown hair, Lily’s bright green eyes, and his father’s build. He was always thought of as the mentally stable child, though he never seemed to play with the other children as much as his parents would have hoped. He was the one to get angry less often than the other children, though he definitely did if anyone tried to keep him from nature. He was the odd child; his parents wondered constantly about him.
The children grew up quickly, the two families hanging around each other as much as was humanly possible. Draco and Violet, like everyone suspected, grew up the most spoiled, though the other four weren’t really that far behind. However, the happiness present around the families would be spoiled soon after their birth.
The self-styled Dark Lord Voldemort (a.k.a. Tom Marvolo Riddle) attacked Godric's Hollow the day before the Potter children turned two. Somehow, the curse Riddle cast on the Potters (Avada Kedavra) rebounded, Voldemort being destroyed. In the ensuing confusion, Lily, James, and all their children evacuated Godric's Hollow (which was now a shell of its former self). Appearing at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, the family quickly entered the Headmaster's office, the Headmaster currently being Albus Dumbledore.
"Headmaster Dumbledore?" Lily Potter asked, looking around the room. Fawkes, Dumbledore's phoenix, was the only creature in sight. "It's Lily Potter. My family and I need to talk to you..."
"Ah, yes, Lily. Lily, what is it you need?" Dumbledore asked, coming into sight from behind a random picture frame.
"Headmaster, I don't know if you've heard- but Voldemort has been demolished. He was trying to turn us to his side, and cast the Killing Curse; it rebounded, and he was destroyed. We were wondering...do you know what caused the curse to rebound?" James asked, looking hopefully at Dumbledore.
"Alas, I don't." Dumbledore said, sighing softly as he sat in his chair, picking up the eldest Potter, Vilya. He looked into her blue eyes, his own twinkling when he saw the dreamy yet powerful gaze of the youngster's. Looking over the rest of her, he noticed no harm done to the eldest Potter.
Picking up the next oldest, Alu, he looked into her sea-green eyes, noting the moody and stormy gaze. He noticed a few minor bruises and scrapes on the youngster; he sat her next to her sister.
Next, he picked up Naur, looking into his golden eyes and noting the fiery strength of his gaze. He had a few minor scrapes, though nothing was really bad.
Next was the youngest, Harry. Looking into the youngster's eyes, he noted the guarded gaze and frowned. Looking over the youngest Potter, he noticed nothing strange save his eyes; those eyes seemed as though they knew too much for a child so young. Sighing unhappily, he set the child down.
"It could have been any of them, Lily, James. It was one of your children that rebounded the curse; keep an eye on them, would you? And both of you...please, be careful. The Malfoys will welcome you, of course, but still...be careful." Dumbledore said, voice weary.
It wasn't until very late that night that Headmaster Dumbledore could get those green eyes out of his mind, and only then he was able to because he looked up the Potter and Evans family history. Even so, it didn't set his mind to rest. Sighing again, it seemed as though Dumbledore would be staying up all night.
