Disclaimer:
I do not own Harry Potter, nor any of the characters from the books or movies. I do not make any money from the writing of this story.
Every Part of Me
A/N: I’m warning you right now. This story will be very long, dramatic, and tragic. Character death is inevitable, but it won’t be the normal character death, trust me. Just read to find out. And PAY ATTENTION. This starts off in the future, but will go back in time after the prologue. Also, this is the Snape/Harry pairing, so if you don’t like that, leave.
Sorry to sound so serious. XD Thanks for listening and enjoy!
Summary: If you loved someone with all your heart, more than any love you had ever felt before... Would you be willing to forget them to save their life? Would you be willing to let them forget you?
PROLOGUE
Every Part of Me
It’s strange to think I hated you
Though I guess I really didn’t
It’s strange that all I tried to do
Was prove that I’m unbidden
-
I wonder why I forced a scowl
When my mind went blank
I imagined you were foul
When all you were was frank
-
You make me toss and turn at night
With dreams of your sweet kiss
You make me writhe at just your sight
A touch from you is bliss
-
We acted like two enemies
And pushed away the truth
Deciding never to agree
We played a game uncouth
-
I can think of you with pain
An angry thought of lies
But then I see what I can gain
When looking in your eyes
-
Every piece of me you take
Every fragment of my soul
And every smile that you don’t fake
Makes me a bit more whole
-
Every time you stroke my cheek
And every time you laugh
I find my knees go trembling weak
You are my better half
-
You mock and scorn now and again
But then I see you smile
And I know that even then
You are worth the while
-
To explain would be too hard
To cry out would be too plain
To merely say that I love you
Would be a worthless claim
-
I’ll tell you now that this is true
You’ll be the end of me
But In a heartbeat I’d give you
Every last part of me
Severus Snape sat down the parchment softly with a sigh. That poem had been written for him. Never, years before, could he have possibly fathomed anyone to write something so emotional for him. Especially not Harry Potter.
He had been looking through Harry’s things when he found it. It had been lying there, neatly folded in his bedside drawer, alongside a smooth gray skipping stone. The stone wrenched Severus’s heart more than the poem did. He didn’t know Harry had saved it.
Then again, he hadn’t known Harry had done a lot of things.
Perhaps that was for the best. Severus’s ignorance had saved his life in the end, but it hadn’t saved Harry’s. Severus had kicked himself over it a thousand times. How could he have been such a fool? He should have been able to see it. It was so obvious what Harry was going to do, but Severus hadn’t let himself believe that the boy would be so foolish… so selfless.
Severus slumped onto the Gryffindor’s bed, stone in hand. He ran his thumb over the soft surface, remembering the day he had first seen the stone. It must have been very difficult for Harry to get it back. He had surely broken school rules by doing so, but he had broken so many rules. They had broken most of them together. Dark, secretive meetings at night; whispered oaths into the shadows; soft, caressing touches in hidden corners. They had loved like no one had loved before; secretly.
Severus should have stopped it. Maybe things wouldn’t have ended up the way they did. He picked up the parchment once more and read the poem. “Every last part of me…” Harry had given everything for him. He had given his life so that Severus could have his, and Severus had been too blind to see it coming.
“I knew all along,” he muttered into the flickering candlelight of the evening. His detached, rumbling voice echoed off the stone walls of the tower. “I just didn’t want to believe it.”
He let the parchment flutter to the floor, watching its dancing descent with unblinking eyes. His knuckles turned white as he gripped the stone between his slim fingers. Soon, that too fell to the ground with a clatter. Not long after, Severus followed, his knees hitting the floor with a thump as he cradled his head in his hands and sobbed silently into them. He bowed to the room and it watched him quietly in his agony.
If only he had listened to Lucius. If only he had left five minutes earlier. If only he had never told Harry the truth. If only he had… if only…
Gasping, heaving breaths shook Severus’s seemingly frail frame. His fingers dug into his raven hair and he let out a tremulous moan. He couldn’t live this way. It was too much. He had felt his soul shatter the moment he’d laid eyes upon Harry’s crumpled and lifeless form, eyes staring, glazed and unseeing, into the sky. Right at that moment, Severus had died as well.
He couldn’t bare the pain any longer, but he would not take his own life. Harry would have never wanted him to do that. He couldn’t do that to him. Even in death, Harry’s presence was still strong in his mind, smiling at him relentlessly.
He couldn’t kill himself. What was the point of killing a dead man anyway?
No. He couldn’t do that. He had to do something else. There was only one option. Severus clenched his fists tightly against the cold floors.
He had to bring Harry back.
He had to find Regulus Black.
Sorry to sound so serious. XD Thanks for listening and enjoy!
