Hormones

Hermione stayed warm by the fire as she continued to count the stitches for the cross stitch pattern she was currently working on. She was so bored sitting at home alone, not able to move around much because her doctor had ordered her to stay off her feet for fear of going into early labor with the twins she was carrying.

It had been three months since she had been put on bed rest and this was the first day she hadn’t had someone at her house watching over her and fussing every time she tried to do some little thing. She had gotten so aggravated last night when Ginny had volunteered to Transfigure the chair into a bed for her that she had thrown her friend right out of the house.

This morning, everyone must have known that Hermione’s temper was in an uproar, because no one had come to visit. It was easier that way. She knew she had to take it easy, but she didn’t like people hovering over her, questioning her every time she shifted positions in the chair.

She was just ready for this pregnancy to be over and done with, as her due date was still a week away. She also knew she was irritable because her husband had been away for the last two months.

When she had been put on bed rest, Charlie had taken a leave of absence from the dragon colony in Romania to stay by her side and help her with everything, but after being with her only a month, he had gotten an urgent Floo from one of his co-workers about a particularly nasty newborn Hungarian Horntail that needed the extra-special touch which Charlie possessed. As much as she had wanted him to stay with her, she felt it was important for him to go, so she had told him to leave. Now, she wished she hadn’t tried to be so fiercely independent and that she had begged and pleaded with him not to go. If she had done that, she knew he wouldn’t have left, as Charlie was never able to resist a plea from Hermione.

As she continued stitching, thinking about her husband, she heard the back door open in the kitchen. She assumed it was Ginny coming back to mother over her again because Ginny was the one who never quit, even after Hermione bitched and raged at her.

Setting aside her stitching, Hermione cleared her throat and called out, “I’m sorry for yesterday, Gin. My hormones and my emotions are running in high speed and I just lash out at everyone. I know you were just trying to help.”

“Yes, I’ve heard you’ve been quite the arse lately,” a deep voice said from behind Hermione’s chair.

“Charlie?” Hermione gasped as she tried to twist herself around in her chair to see her husband.

Charlie hurried around to the front of the chair and got on his knees in front of Hermione. “I’ve missed you so much, love,” he told her as he brushed the tears from her cheeks.
