Chapter 1

Albus sighed as he read the letter. He sat the letter down on his desk and looked at the two other letters as the door opened. Minerva, Severus, and Hermione entered the office. The three walked over and quickly sat down.

“I have some news that concerns you Hermione, and you as well Severus,” Albus said.

“What’s wrong sir?” Hermione asked in confusion.

“This,” Albus answered as he picked up two letters and handed them to Hermione and Severus.

Hermione/Severus,

It has come to our attention that you are no longer safe on Earth. In one week, Master Jedi Mace Windu and Senator Bail Organa will be arriving on Earth to escort you back to Corusant.

I know this is incontinent, but the Jedi Council feels you will be safe here. As to the threat, they also felt it be better to tell you in person once you arrive.

I will meet with you for dinner the night you arrive. Again, I’m sorry for this, but I won’t go against the entire JedI Council, for I trust their judgement.

Supreme Chancellor Amidala

“This is preposterous! What threat could there possibly be that would require us to return to Corusant!” Severus yelled.

“I don’t know Severus. After I received these letters, Chancellor Amidala contacted me. She knows that the two of you would be upset, but told me she was giving you an executive order to return with Master Windu and Senator Organa,” Albus replied calmly.

“Albus, I don’t feel that Severus and I returning would keep us safe. He and I still have enemies within the Republic. By returning, it will make it all the more easier for them to find us,” Hermione stated diplomatically.

Hermione and Severus were both Senator for the Galactic Republic. Hermione had been elected Senator for Corusant right after her parents were killed three years before the Clone Wars began. Severus was a Senator from Yavin 4. Not only had they kept it a secret, but Hermione had been using magic to make her appear younger than she truly was.

“Hermione, from what Albus has explained to me about the Galactic Republic and the Senate, if this Jedi Council feels you should return, wouldn’t it be best to follow their wishes?” Minerva questioned.

“Minerva, this is one time I’m not sure of that. I know Hermione was sent here because of the numerous attempts on her live, but I’m a totally different matter. My parents sent me here to be trained by my Uncle. For the first eighteen years of my life I lived here, then returned to Yavin where I was elected Senator. I was twenty six when Hermione was elected. Two years later, I left for my own protection. Hermione joined me a year later, Like Hermione, I too made many enemies within the Senate,” Severus answered as he began pacing.

“What about Harry and Ron? The war with Voldemort? Though Severus and I left one war, we have now become an intricate part in this one,” Hermione sighed.

“Don’t worry about this war. As for Harry and Ron, I will tell them the truth. After you have left of course,” Albus explained.

Hermione stood at her bedroom window in her Head Girl suit. She sighed as she watched the rain fall. Though she didn’t want to return, she was excited at the idea of returning. She smiled as she remembered her final night in the Galactic capital.

*Flashback*

Hermione stood on her balcony watching the plant city come alive. She had always loved Corusant at night. She was so lost in her thoughts, that she didn’t hear the man walk up behind her.

“Beautiful isn’t it?”

“Ooohhh! Obi-Wan don’t sneak up on me like that,” she gasped.

“I didn’t mean to frighten you milady,” Obi-Wan Kenobi smirked.

“I forgive you,” she smiled.

Hermione sighed as he wrapped his arms around her waist. Despite it being forbidden for a Jedi to fall in love, Hermione and Obi-Wan had fallen in love anyway. Somehow they had kept it hidden from the Council.

“Where’s your Padawan?” she asked.

“With Master Yoda. They are working on his meditation skills,” he answered.

“How old is Anakin now? About nineteen or so?”

“He turns nineteen next month. Sometimes I wonder why I agreed to train him?”

Hermione giggled. After the death of Obi-Wan’s mentor, Qui-Gon Jinn on Naboo nine years earlier, Obi-Wan had fulfilled Qui-Gon’s dying wish. To train Anakin Skywalker to be a JedI.

“It will get easier Ben. He’s still young and impulsive,” she said.

“I hear you’re leaving,” he replied.

“Yes. Chancellor Palpatine felt it safer. He has arranged for me to join Senator Severus Snape from Yavin 4 on Earth,” she stated sadly.

“At least you’ll be safe. If that means us being separated, then I will accept it,” he whispered as he held her tighter.

She turned in his arms, wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him. If this was to be their last night together, she wasn’t going to waste one precious moment of it.

*End Flashback*

“I’m coming home Obi-Wan my love,” Hermione said, hoping somehow, someway, he could hear her.

A week later found Hermione finishing her packing. Earlier that morning, Senator Organa and Master Windu had arrived. After curfew, she and Severus would be escorted to Senator Organa’s ship and the four would return to Corusant.

“Milady, is there anything I can do to help?” Mace Windu asked as he entered her bedroom.

“No thank you Master Windu. I’m nearly finished,” Hermione answered.

“I know this is difficult, but it is for the best,” he said.

“I wish you would tell Severus and I what threat is driving us out of hiding,” she sighed as she sat on the edge of her bed.

“Master Yoda said it would be better to wait till we reach the capital. At the temple, Master Yoda and Master Kenobi will explain then,” he replied.

Hermione sighed heavily. She knew she wasn’t getting anything more from the Master Jedi. She got up and walked to her closet and stared at the only thing left hanging inside. A beautiful gown of sapphire blue, accented with gold and silver stars. The gown had belonged to her mother and Hermione was going to wear it when she and Severus met with Yoda and Obi-Wan at the JedI temple.

“Mione, you all right?” Harry asked at dinner.

“Huh?” Hermione replied absentmindedly.

“I asked if you were all right,” Harry repeated.

“I’m fine, I just have a lot on my mind,” she answered.

“You’ve been distracted all week. Ever since you had that meeting with Dumbledore on Sunday,” Ron added.

“I guess I’ve been studying too hard. I’ll be fine guys,” Hermione smiled.

“Girl, you need to get your nose out of those books,” Ginny chuckled.

Hermione began laughing with Harry, Ginny, and Ron. As she laughed, her eyes met Severus’. She could tell he was worried about leaving as well. She gave him a soft smile. Severus nodded in return.

‘I will miss you. Maybe, we can see each other in the future,’ Hermione thought as she silently said her good byes to Harry, Ginny, and Ron.

************************************************************************

“You take care Severus. I’ll miss you,” Minerva said tearfully.

“I will Minerva,” Severus smiled as he hugged her.

“Well my boy, I guess this is good bye,” Albus replied.

“This isn’t good bye Albus. We’ll see each other again old friend,” Severus stated as he and Albus embraced like father and son.

As Severus and Bail boarded the ship, Hermione walked up to Minerva and Albus, the spell concealing her true age, long since removed. Minerva began crying as she pulled the twenty-eight year-old-Hermione into her arms. Hermione returned the older woman’s hug.

“Please be careful Hermione. Watch over Severus. I love you,” Minerva cried.

“I’ll be careful and I promise to watch over Severus. I love you too Minerva,” Hermione said with a tearful smile.

“My lady, you will be missed. It has been a pleasure to teach you these past six years at Hogwarts, but you have a duty to fulfill. I hope our paths cross again,” Albus smiled.

“We will see each other again. Please watch over Harry and Ron. I know they won’t understand,” she whispered as she hugged the old wizard.

“They will be fine,” Albus nodded.

“It’s time to milady,” Mace spoke up as Hermione pulled away from Albus.

After giving Albus and Minerva one final smile and a wave, she turned and walked side-by-side with Mace toward the ship. Suddenly she felt so afraid. She looked up as Mace placed his hand on her shoulder.

“Everything will be fine milady,” he reassured her.

“I hope so Master Windu,” she sighed as the ship doors closed behind them.

************************************************************************

Obi-Wan stood at the window of his apartment at the JedI temple. The council had just received a transmission from Mace an hour ago saying they had taken off and would be arriving at Corusant in two days. Obi-Wan sighed.

‘I can’t wait to see Hermione again. I’ve missed her so much,’ he thought.

He still remembered their last night together. They had made love all night long. It was those memories and the hope that she would return that had kept him going during the Clone Wars. He turned from the window and sat crossed legged on the floor in the center of the room. He closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and began meditating.
