Black and White
Prologue:
The glowing red numbers of the alarm clock seemed to take their time in changing. Finally they did, and it was suddenly July 31st, midnight.
The small room was quiet and still for the first few seconds of the day. But within the first half minute, the air changed and seemed to be crackling with energy.
The boy on the bed writhed as if in pain, and rolled towards the edge. His body strained, diminutive amounts of blood trickled through small cracks on his back. He fell off the bed, and after a few minutes more twisted squirming, his body stilled. The rest of the night passed quietly, and soon the sun was rising, promising another day of scorching heat.
