Here Without You

This isn't very long, nor is it remotely sexual, but I had to get it out before Saturday. Not my best work but it was something that had been bugging me for awhile. So I had to. Let me know what you think.
It was cold, it was bitterly cold. Harry couldn’t help shivering, though he wasn’t entirely convinced it was just because of the cold. He, Ron and Hermione were in the far north on a researched tip about the Horcruxes. Ravenclaw’s, to be precise. He was so tired…and, though he hated to admit it to himself, lonely. He had his best friends with him, but there was one presence he could no longer deny he needed with him. A presence with long red hair and freckles and the smell of flowers and the - NO! He cut himself off. He tried to tell himself to quit going over every detail of her in his mind - it only made it worse, made the cold more bitter. He sat up, keeping watch outside the hidden shack while Ron and Hermione slept. Not that he was disillusioned to what they were actually doing - he knew they wouldn’t sleep. But they deserved this happiness.
He didn’t.
He’d started a million letters to Ginny Weasley in his head. A million letters he knew he could never write, because his resolve would break. He’d ask her to come to him…and she would, no doubt.
Unless she’d found someone else, he thought bitterly. She deserved to, he knew that much.
But he DIDN’T have to be pleased about it!
He started another letter, to be stored in the back of his mind forever…

A hundred days have made me older
Since the last time that I saw your pretty face
A thousand lies have me colder
And I don’t think I can look at this the same
But all the miles that separate
They disappear now when I’m dreaming of your face

Harry woke fitfully. He’d been having a peaceful dream, in which he and Ginny were enjoying a picnic by the pond at the Burrow…he picked a flower and put in her hair, a beautiful lily…and then there were shouts and screams, lights from spells flying all over the place, and he looked next to him and suddenly she was lying on the blanket, dead…and a gray ghost like that of Cedric Diggory’s that had appeared after the third task appeared, though this time it was Ginny…telling him it was all his fault she was dead, and if he’d just left her alone, she’d be alive and happy.
He knew he’d have to keep her out of his life, no matter how much he needed her. Her sweet laugh, her lovely eyes…he knew he couldn’t stay away from her forever. She was, after all, his best source of comfort - and she always had been, whether he’d known it or not.

I’m here without you, baby, but you’re still on my lonely mind
I think about you, baby, and I dream about you all the time
I’m here without you, baby,
But your still with me in my dreams
And tonight it’s only you and me

In his dreams, she was always there…endless letters in his mind, every bit of him aching to see her…knowing that her happiness and health would be worth every bit of it as he lay sweating, at the mercy of a Death Eater’s Cruciatus Curse. He’d been careless, and he’d gotten them all caught, tortured for information. He hoped Ron and Hermione would forgive him. If they lived.

I’m here without you baby but your still on my lonely mind
I think about you baby and I dream about you all the time
I’m here without you baby
But your still with me in my dreams
And tonight girl it’s only you and me

After escaping the Death Eater’s clutches, they finally managed to collect - and, impossibly, destroy every last one of the Horcruxes. He’d killed. He was not proud of it. He’d killed…he’d harmed…he’d tarnished himself, completely. He thought of Ginny’s gorgeous brown eyes. How innocent she was. How sweet…how pure.
How he didn’t deserve her. But he had to make the world safe for her. Because his world WAS her. He would kill Voldemort. He would kill him, and he’d make sure Ginny, Ron and Hermione would be safe.

Everything I know and anywhere I go
It gets hard but it won’t take away my love
When the last one falls
When it’s all said and done
It gets hard but it won’t take away my love

“Avada Kedavra!” Voldemort cried mercilessly, over and over - Harry kept dodging. He was going to do it. Suddenly, he found himself rooted to the spot, watching in horror as Death Eaters attacked Ron and Hermione. A cruel smile hardened Voldemort’s features.
“Got you now,” he laughed evilly.
“Avada Kedavra!” There was a flash of green light. Then there was silence.

I’m here without you baby but you’re still on my lonely mind
I think about you baby and I dream about you all the time
I’m here without you baby but your still with me in my dreams
And tonight, girl, its only you and me

“Harry?” Ginny whispered incredulously. He’d just Apparated into her bedroom, which was supposed to be impossible given the wards at the Burrow. She knew he was a powerful wizard, but…
“Ginny,” he moaned, before sinking to the floor in front of her, sobbing. He pulled her into him, and she cried too - he was alive, he was in front of her. He was back. They were together.
“Is it over?” Ginny whispered through sniffles. Harry nodded.
“Yes, Ginny…it’s all over, he’s gone,” Harry said, holding onto her. “Marry me, Ginny,” he whispered, in the dead of night, hardly believing he’d said it. He hadn’t meant to.
“Of course, Harry,” Ginny said, just as surprised at her own words.
They sat in content silence, punctuated by a few sniffles, for hours after. Ginny knew Harry couldn’t talk about it all just yet. She could never force him to.
By the time Harry was discovered to be sitting in Ginny’s bed, holding onto her, they were both asleep. Ron and Hermione had been waiting in the kitchen when the rest of the house woke up. The explained everything…and even managed to convince Mrs. Weasley to leave Harry and Ginny alone. Harry had his happiness, and he deserved every bit he could get.
