Twisted Fate

A/N: Okay this is a remake of my Overshadowed Fate. As I said I was unhappy with it so wanted to redo it. I'm starting before school and showing Harry in a much darker light much sooner. I appoligize now for Grammer and Spelling errors as I only have a word processor to help me and not a Beta.

Harry sat alone in the compartment on the Hogwarts express. He had arrived surprisingly early to the train station so had claimed a compartment to himself. The cage that would have held Hedwig was no where in sight a reminder of what had happened over the summer. He shivered then winced once as he tried to close his hand. It still hurt from when his uncle had stomped on it that summer.

He shook his head all that was left was his hate and anger at his family. How could he fight against Voldemort with all the hate and rage in him? He had no love. Sure he cared for people but he didn’t love them, and those he cared for were finicky and as likely to turn his rage on them. There was nothing left of the sweet boy who had left Hogwarts at the end of his fifth year. In fact most of the sweet boy had gone the night Sirius had died.

He looked at the door of the compartment as he thought and stretched out his sore and bruised muscles. It was quiet though he could already see a few more students arriving. He stood and quickly locked the compartment hoping to stop someone from entering the compartment. He then curled up on the bench no tears in his eyes just coldness.

He had not gotten a new pet when he had gone to get his supplies at Diagon Alley the day before he boarded the train. It just seemed wrong when he knew that he would be shipped off to his muggle relatives again the coming summer and they would likely kill it. He shut his green eyes sadly. He heard the door open his now long black hair covering his face.

That was another thing he found odd. His physical structure and face had been changing all over the summer. His hair and lengthened and become far more manageable. It was still the color of a raven’s wing. His facial structure had become more refined and he’d actually grown to near 6 foot in height. He glanced at the immaculately clean Draco Malfoy who was staring at him.

“If you want to use this compartment sit down and be quiet. I’m not going to talk to anyone and I don’t want anyone else in here.” Harry snapped out in a soft warning. Draco blinked and stared at him but nodded. Draco didn’t recognize Harry and he could tell.

“Fine by me I have no one I want to talk to.” Draco admitted as he shut the compartment door locked it then spell locked it. The other boy seemed cold to Draco. Almost as though there was no life left in him. He had no pet with him that was also a surprise. Draco was studying the boy who was obviously a fifth or sixth year.

“Would you stop staring so I can rest a bit more? I don’t sleep well.” Harry growled his green eyes narrowing at the blob that was Draco. His glasses were hidden next to him since he hadn’t wanted to wear them at the moment.

“Sure just one question, what year are you and are you a transfer student?” Draco asked frowning. Harry chuckled darkly at those questions and looked again at Draco.

“Same year as you are. You do know me, but I’d prefer not to get into a fight with you, and I don’t want to face those that call themselves my friends.” Harry stated before shutting his eyes and allowing himself to snooze. Draco studied the boy on the seat wondering what he meant and why he seemed so cold.

Harry rolled a bit and Draco gasped seeing the scar on Harry’s head. He blinked a few times and then shook his head. Potter was not himself anymore that much was for sure. He studied the boy that lived now. He hated mysteries and this change in the boy was one hell of a mystery.

Draco studied Harry’s face trying to see how much the boy had changed. The biggest changes seemed to be in all the places he appeared more like his father. The similarities to that man had vanished. His hands were now long and delicate, another surprise. Draco licked his lips at the thought of those pale hands wrapped about him.

Harry’s body was also no longer short he had had one hell of a growth spurt over summer. He looked lean and in many ways reminded him of how his father had said the Dark Lord had looked before Harry had defeated him the first time. Harry whimpered almost silently in his sleep the scar becoming hidden once more by his hair as he shifted on the bench.

Harry slowly opened his eyes as the snack cart approached he moved to his trunk and pulled out a small bag and pulled out a galleon from it. The fact Harry was holding a whole galleon shocked Draco but he said nothing and Harry nodded to the door.

“Will you take off the spell Malfoy? I want to get some food.” Harry stated. Draco blinked but removed the spells allowing Harry to open the door and see where the cart was before walking out and up to it. Harry bought several Chocolate frogs a few pumpkin pasties and about three sugar quills. He stayed away from the every flavor beans as he looked over the cart for anything else. Finally he just shrugged and went back to the compartment to sit down.

“So what’s with the new look Potter?” Draco asked leaning back. Harry looked at Draco then shrugged a moment. He opened one of the chocolate frogs and placed it in his mouth. He looked down and snorted seeing it was an Albus Dumbledore card in it. He picked up the card and slowly ripped it into pieces. Draco stared in shock as Harry gave a dark if cold laugh.

“If I knew I would tell you Malfoy. This happened to me over the summer. Almost as if some sort of spell that was one me melted away.” Harry stated. He got up and pulled a parchment out of his trunk then grabbed a sugar quill. Harry was determined to set some things right. Well right in his own mind the first was letting Snape know that he wasn’t the coot’s pawn anymore. He didn’t want to face the dark lord but nor would he join the man.

“What are you working on there Potter? Don’t have your summer homework finished?” Draco snarled as he watched Harry chew on the sugar quill feather. Harry looked at Draco shaking his head a moment.

“I’m trying to figure out how to word a letter I plan to give Snape.” Harry stated and frowned a moment. He had to make sure the coot couldn’t understand it and yet that Snape would.

“Oh and why would you want to do that?” Draco sneered glad there was tension between them again, even though the civility of the conversation was surprisingly good. Harry’s green eyes locked on Draco’s as he frowned in thought.

“Simply put I wish to apologize for something I did to Snape last year and at the same time give him some information that I don’t want the idiot coot to figure out.” Harry stated as he kept chewing on the sugar quill.

“Well first you will have to convince the man to read it and not just chuck it into the fire.” Draco stated as he leaned back. Harry raised an eyebrow at that but nodded.

“Okay so the message has to go first rather than the apology.” Harry sighed a moment as he looked at his hand almost wincing in pain. He had to go see Madam Pomphrey rather than go to the feast when he arrived at the castle. He pulled out a pumpkin pasty setting the sheet aside as he thought.

“So what is the message you want to give to Severus Potter?” Draco asked getting very curious now. Harry turned gold green eyes onto Draco’s silver and smirked a moment.

“I want to tell him I hope he’s on the right side in this war, because the light is losing their symbol.” Harry stated as he leaned back. Draco stared right at Harry as he stated those words. Draco swallowed a moment then blinked.

“Does this mean the Coot is losing his golden boy Potter?” Draco asked and watched Harry smirk. Harry’s eyes were hard and filled with a controlled anger.

“Yes Malfoy that is exactly what it means. I’m sick of being the hero. I’m sick of being used and treated as a weapon. I’m sick of the fame, well I was always sick of that but I’m fed up with public opinion going up or down dictated by the papers. They want to hate and fear me fine; I will give them a reason to.” Harry growled, his green eyes seeming to flash red for a moment causing Draco to stiffen.

“Potter your eyes just flashed crimson.” Draco told Harry. Harry blinked and sighed lifting his hands up to rub his face. The way Harry was acting told Draco that this wasn’t the first time it had happened.

“Yeah it’s been happening whenever I get angry lately. Well since my birthday.” Harry said as he used the sugar quill to write his note to Snape. He then moved and stopped before swearing violently remembering he didn’t have Hedwig anymore.

“Where is your owl Potter?” Draco asked noticing Harry’s movement. Harry looked at Draco with his eyes narrowed in thought. If Draco had to decide it looked almost like Harry was trying to decide if it was in his interest to tell Draco about it or not.

“Hedwig was killed by my Muggle relatives after the first week of summer vacation.” Harry said slurring the word muggle into the most derogatory comment he could. Draco stared at Harry as he said this and winced. He had a feeling Harry’s words were fully truthful and then suddenly Harry smirked again shocking Draco.

“What is it you are smirking about now Potter? You’re looking more like a Slytherin than a Gryffindor.” Draco pointed out. Harry looked at Draco calmly then continued to nibble at the sugar quill the length of it almost fully gone.

“I’m smirking because of a few things I’ve learned since last year. Things I plan to reveal to the world. One has to do with a stupid prophecy and the whole reason I am the Gryffindor golden boy.” Harry snorted. Draco stared at Harry realizing this prophecy must be why everything was always about him.

“What is this prophecy Potter?” Draco growled in curiosity. Harry laughed seeing Draco’s reactions to his words. This train trip was becoming more amusing than any he would have dreamed.

“Oh the prophecy that got my family killed and has supposedly set it up that I was the only one to kill Voldemort. Though I’ve already fulfilled it as far as I’m concerned, I’m not lifting another hand against the Dark Lord.” Harry stated causing Draco to stare at Harry more.

“So you say you’ve already fulfilled the prophecy yet the Dark Lord is still around.” Draco said feeling confused by Harry’s words.

“Yes. The prophecy said I would be the one to defeat the Dark Lord and that I would be marked as his equal. Now it said no where that his defeat would not be temporary or that he would not come back after his defeat.” Harry pointed out with a shrug. He then smirked seeing Draco twitch as though wanting to grab a parchment and write a letter.

”Go ahead Draco report everything I’ve said to Voldemort. I don’t really care anymore. If the ass still tries to kill me I will defend myself.” Harry stated as the compartment door opened. Hermione was standing at it and stared between Harry and Draco.

“Harry is that you?” She asked the long haired boy. He turned to look at Hermione then sighed and rolled his green eyes.

“Yes Hermione it’s me. Now if you don’t mind leave. I was in the middle of a very good conversation with Malfoy.” Harry snapped at Hermione. She blinked in surprise then shook her head at his actions.

“Harry why are you talking with Malfoy?” Hermione asked sounding a bit annoyed at the idea of Harry associating with the Slytherin.

“Because I didn’t want to talk to you or Ron after you never even bothered to write to me all summer.” Harry snapped as he stood up pushed her out of the compartment and slammed the door shut.

“Trouble among your friends Potter?” Draco asked as he leaned back. Harry shrugged as he sat back glaring at the door waiting for the next one to approach. Harry snickered as the door was slammed open and a red faced red head appeared in the door way.

“Harry what do you think you are doing hanging out with a slytherin let alone a Malfoy!” Ron screamed. Harry looked at Ron with his now cold green eyes and sighed almost as though in boredom.

“Ron leave before I make you. I want nothing to do with you and you’re abandoning me. You sent me no letters during the summer like I was just a friend during the school year. The way you act it’s like all you are interested with is my fame. A fame you know for a fact I don’t want.” Harry growled his eyes beginning to flash red. Ron stumbled back seeing Harry’s eyes flash another color then ran as though the Dark Lord was on his heels.

“Well that was the most amusing stand off between you and them I have ever seen.” Draco said smirking. Laughter was actually shining in his silver eyes as he looked at Harry. Harry just shrugged a moment and rubbed his eyes again.

“Yeah looks like dealing with the people that piss me off this year will be so much easier if my eyes keep up this flashing.” Harry said with a bit of a shrug. He then went into his trunk to gather his school uniform. Draco soon gathered his stuff together as well. They both prepared then sat back down as the train pulled into the Hogsmead station.
