chapter 1
It was the summer before seventh year, and everyone was staying at headquarters training for the war. Hermione, Ron,and Harry were lying around relaxing after long hours of workouts.
“Miss Granger can you please follow me, also it might be best if Mr.Potter and Mr. Weasley come as well” a grave looking Dumbledore said.
The trio followed their headmaster and good friend through the house and into a private study that had many complicated wards around it so no one could listen in.
“Sir, what is it that you need to speak to us about?” Hermione asked curiously
“Well, this isn’t easy for me to say, but there has been another attack…this time a little too close to home if I may use the muggle saying”
“Who was it this time” harry asked getting straight to the point
“*sigh* I’m sorry Miss Granger…we tried to protect them, but your parents just didn’t have a chance”
“What!!” “Why?” Harry and Ron shouted….Strangely Hermione was quiet
“Hermione are you ok?” Harry asked his friend quietly
Hermione didn’t say a thing; she just got up and walked out of the room. Harry and Ron went to go after her. As they were leaving they vaguely heard Dumbledore telling her that she will come around in time.
Hermione stayed like that for days afterward. She never spoke or gave any hint that she heard or saw anything around her. One day Molly Weasley was going to take everyone to diagon ally for a fun day outside of the headquarters. When Molly asked if they should take Hermione with them everyone looked around nervously. They loved Hermione and all, but with her being unresponsive to everything no one wanted to babysit her.
After everyone left a shadow fell over the form of Hermione sitting in front of the fire.
“Miss Granger I know you can here me. And I have a proposition for you.”Snape said
Hermione jus looked into the fire not moving
“I can help you get revenge…I know how you are feeling. You want to get back at the death eaters for killing your parents, yet you want to get back at Harry and Dumbledore for not preventing it and letting you suffer, but you see we can help”
At this Hermione looked up at snape and his companion, when she noticed who was beside Snape she got a frightened look in her eyes.
“Don’t be scared. Neither one of us will hurt you. We want to help you why don’t we make a deal” Draco stated
“You see you, the brightest witch of the time, are of great importance to this war, but you are not being treated right,”
“We can train you, help you, nurture you, and most of all we can care for you in time, become your family”
Hermione listened; she couldn’t believe what they were saying or how they knew what she needed to hear. Their offer seemed too good to be true. As if reading her mind Snape spoke again
“No, we are serious you see we will let you in on a little secret. You see, we are neither on the dark side nor on the light side. We belong to the neutral side. We feed false information to both sides for our own advantage. Everyone thinks this war only has two sides, but it really has three. Neither the Dark Lord or Dumbledore have the ability to lead, but we, us two and our followers, are a mixture of both good and evil so we are the best to lead fairly. “
“ That’s why we want to help you, for by helping you, you will in turn help us. It’s up to you, we will not force you into doing it, but I must warn you, by choosing not to join us we will erase your memory of this conversation….for our protection. Don’t rush into a decision we will give you three days to decide. Good day.”
Hermione watched as they both left without another word. ‘I wonder why I didn’t know of their true motives before, now it seems so obvious. But they have a point, they can help me, and Dumbledore is too soft to lead and Voldemort is too dark, they would be a better choice. Maybe I should join them…oh well I have three days to decide’
That evening everyone that went to Diagon Ally came back to find Hermione in the same spot they left her, looking as if she hadn’t even noticed they were gone. Unknown to the however, was that Hermione resented the for leaving her to grieve, she felt as if she was just a burden now, and it was just filling her with hatred
