Dear Diary,
Daddy came home drunk and angry AGAIN...
He's always like this, ever since he lost his job.
Before this would only happen once, maybe twice a month.
Now it's almost every night.

He's drunk again, it's time to fight.
She must have done something wrong tonight.
The living room, becomes a boxing ring.
It's time to run when you see him,
Clentching his hands.

I went to check on mommy when I heard her scream.
Daddy was beating her again.
I tried to help but mommy told me to go to bed.
I'm sorry for crying but I'm so scared.

I hear a scream, from down the hall.
Amazing she can even talk at all.
She cries to me, "Go back to bed."
I'm terrified that she'll wind up,
Dead in his hands.

I met the nice man in apartment 315 the other day.
He and mommy talked for a while in the hall.
He has a funny name but is really nice.
He asked mommy how she busted her lip and she lied, AGAIN.

Dear Diary,
We went to the emergency room this time.
Mommy lied to the nurse say she fell down the stairs.
Daddy was in the waiting room getting friendly with the ladies.
On the way home he acted like nothing happened, like always.

Just tell the nurse, you slipped and fell.
It starts to sting as it starts to swell.
She looks at you, she wants the truth.
It's right out there in the waiting,
Room with those hands.
Looking just as sweet as he can.

We ran into the nice man with the funny name.
He asked if everything was okay and daddy said it was fine.
He looked at mommy and me like he didn't believe daddy.
Mommy just looked at the floor holding my hand.
I wanted to tell him but mommy won't let me.

That man and I talked today when I got home from school.
He's really nice, he took mommy and me out for ice cream.
He knows daddy's hitting mommy but mommy keeps lying about it.
He said he wants to help but mommy says that we're fine.

It's finally over, daddy's in jail and mommy's safe.
The man with the funny name's taking mommy and me away.
Daddy came home and the nice man came and stopped him.
Daddy started to fight with him but the nice man beat him up.
The cops took daddy to jail and now it's over

He's drunk again, it's time to fight

She grabs the gun, she's had enough.

Raven put the diary away with a heavy heart.
He knew that one day he would have to tell her the truth about that night. But not today. he thought to himself. He walked out of Angela's room and down the hall to his own.
