Ginny Weasley silently watched her family and friends chatter endlessly about something or other at the dinner table. Her mum, dad, Moody, Lupin, and Tonks were speaking quietly to each other about a meeting the Order just had. Fred and George happily discussed their booming business with Bill while Harry, Ron, and Hermione tried their hardest to pretend they weren’t eavesdropping on the adults. No one really paid her much attention. Bored Ginny got up from the table her plate of food hardly touched.

“Ginny?” her mum looked over at her.

“I’m not feeling too well mum. I think I’ll go to bed early.” Ginny answered.

Molly nodded. “Are you all packed for school?”

“Yes. Everything’s put away.”

“Okay goodnight dear.” Molly smiled at her only daughter.

Everyone else wished her a goodnight then resumed their conversations. Ginny made her way to the room she shared with Hermione and laid down on her bed. She stared at the ceiling her thoughts on the past two months. After Dumbledore’s funeral they had all returned to Grimmauld place with Harry’s consent, though Ginny wondered why they even bothered to ask him, it wasn’t like he, Ron, or Hermione were there much anyway. As soon as they returned from school they holed themselves in the library before leaving for days at a time. Ginny knew her mum and dad didn’t like these little trips they took but since they were all of age she couldn’t much do anything about it. Ginny had asked them what it was they did on these trips but they just skirted the issue; changing the topic whenever she brought it up.

Upon Ginny’s return from school Molly and Arthur had agreed that she was to never leave the house after Bill’s wedding. Most of the summer holidays Ginny spent alone; until dinner when some Order members returned from a mission they were on to rest. She had been furious with her parents about the no leaving rule when Ron, Harry, and Hermione were scarcely ever home. Her mum had pointed out that she was still sixteen and until she became of age she was under their rules.

The first couple of weeks Ginny used all her alone time to finish her holiday homework. Harry, Ron, Ginny, and Hermione had received owls from Professor McGonagall that Hogwarts was indeed open and would be starting as usual on September first. Though it had taken much convincing from her parents and Hermione, Harry decided to return to Hogwarts for his last year. In the past Ginny would’ve felt excited about this but now she really couldn’t bring herself to care anymore. Harry had said he broke up with her because he cared about her too much and didn’t want her hurt but that didn’t stop him from snogging Gabrielle at Bill and Fleur’s wedding. She was positive he wasn’t aware that she knew but after that little display her dream of being Mrs. Potter after the war was effectively crushed. It had taken a tremendous amount of strength to stop herself from hexing the little bint along with Harry.

Ginny reached under her pillow and pulled out her small green diary. She had found it in the box of ‘things to be thrown out’ one day when she decided to entertain herself by exploring the house. After her first year at Hogwarts one would’ve thought she’d stay far away from diaries but once she laid her eyes on it she couldn’t help herself. It looked so much like her Tom’s diary. Ginny knew she should hate Tom for everything he put her through but she just couldn’t. He had been her best friend. He was patient, and loyal, and he cared about her. She always got a tingling feeling inside her when she wrote to him. Even now years later long after the diary was destroyed she felt as if something deep down inside of her was just waiting to get out. She didn’t tell anyone about her thoughts or feelings knowing they’d send her straight to St. Mungo’s psych ward if they found out. Opening up her diary she flipped through it until she reached a blank page.

Dear Tom,

Tomorrow is finally September first. I can’t wait to get to school already. It’s the only place I can do whatever I want. You remember what I said before about my mum and dad keeping me here all summer. Well now I’m finally free. Everyone thought we wouldn’t be allowed back after what happened to Dumbledore. You really shouldn’t have asked Snape to do that. Dumbledore wasn’t so bad.

Ginny sighed before continuing.

I really wish you’d answer me like before. I miss talking to you. You’re the only person that actually understood me, I-

Before Ginny could finish her sentence the book started glowing brightly. The light coming off it was so strong Ginny had to cover her eyes. After a few minutes it stopped. Ginny tentatively picked up the diary and watched in fascination her words disappear into the pages. The book was good as new. It was like she’d never written in it at all.

HELLO GINNY.

Ginny’s heart started to beat frantically in her chest as the words appeared then disappeared again. It couldn’t be. Swallowing tightly Ginny picked up her quill and answered with shaky hands.

Tom?

The ink was sucked into the pages.

WHO ELSE WOULD IT BE?

Ginny felt her stomach dip. She wasn’t sure if it was from fear or excitement.

But how can this be? Your diary was destroyed.

Ginny wrote hurriedly.

YOUR WISH GINNY. YOU MADE A WISH AND IT CAME TRUE.

Just like when she was eleven, Ginny felt the tingling sensation in the pit of her stomach. It felt good. Grinning Ginny quickly dipped her quill in ink and wrote back.

Oh, I missed you Tom.

I MISSED YOU TOO GINNY. I’VE BEEN DYING TO SEE YOU.

Ginny bit her lip. She knew what he meant. Her Tom now went by another name.

You have?

OH YES GINNY. DON’T YOU KNOW THAT YOU ARE A PART OF ME AS I AM A PART OF YOU? JUST AS I TOOK SOME OF YOU INSIDE ME I GAVE YOU SOME OF ME IN RETURN.

Ginny watched the words disappear with apprehension. He was inside of her? How can that be?

I don’t understand.

ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS OPEN UP TO ME GINNY. OPEN UP TO THE POWER YOU FEEL COURSING THROUGH YOU.

Should she? She had a feeling that if she did what Tom was asking her life would change.

I’m scared.

DON’T BE SCARED GINNY. THIS IS YOUR DESTINY. YOU BELONG WITH ME. THOSE PEOPLE YOU CALL FAMILY DO NOT KNOW YOU. THEY DON’T UNDERSTAND YOU. OPEN UP TO ME GINNY. KNOW FOR THE FIRST TIME WHAT IT FEELS LIKE TO BE FREE.

Ginny read his words a few times before they disappeared. Would she do it? She knew the answer. Of course she would. She could never deny Tom anything. Before she could chicken out she quickly wrote.

How do I do it?

THAT’S MY GIRL. NOW, ARE YOU ALONE?

It was still too early for Hermione to come to bed but what if she decided to come check up on her? Thinking quickly Ginny grabbed her wand, quill, ink bottle, and diary and silently made her way outside and towards the door that lead to the attic. She locked the door just in case and hid behind a tower of boxes. Sitting down comfortably she opened her book.

Yes, I’m alone.

PERFECT. CLOSE YOUR EYES AND CONCENTRATE ON THE FEELING TALKING TO ME BRINGS YOU. LET IT CONSUME YOUR ENTIRE BEING. LET THE FEELING TAKE OVER. IT’S WHO YOU ARE MEANT TO BE.

Ginny closed her eyes and did as she was told. The tingling feeling inside her stomach spread through out her body. Her body soon began to glow in a black ethereal light. The light seeped into her skin settling itself in her heart. Ginny opened her eyes a smile lighting her face. She had never felt this way before in her life. She felt powerful like she could do anything. Picking up the diary she quickly wrote.

It’s done.

HOW DO YOU FEEL?

Complete My Lord.

GOOD. REST NOW GINNY. WE’LL BE MEETING SOON ENOUGH.

Ginny could hardly contain her excitement. She couldn’t wait to meet the Dark Lord.

I can’t wait.

Ginny closed the diary. Picking up her things she went back downstairs to her room glad to see it was empty. Hiding the diary under her pillow once again Ginny fell in a peaceful sleep.
