Foolish Games

After Voldermort was vanquished, and it was discovered that Albus Dumbledore did in fact not die but instead was the director of a most marvelous performance. The wizarding world went back to some type of normal about six months after the final battle. The light had no casualties due to quick thinking and extensive planning.

This is actually where this particular story begins, the Six month anniversary of the light’s victory. Professor Dumbledore always one for a good celebration decided that this month they would have a talent show. To make matters worse this talent show consisted of singing, dancing, or even playing an instrument. Most complained that it was in fact in bad taste to conduct such a show, because who would have practiced such a thing when with a wave of ones wand they could have any artist they want playing for them.

Everyone gasped as Hermione Granger took the stage. She no longer had a frizzy mass of curls nor was it brown any longer no, due to a tiny potions accident caused by one Mr. Neville Longbottom Hermione permanently received Straight blonde hair (much to her disdain.) she did however like the light blue eyes that came with it. She cleared her throat and adjusted the old muggle microphone.

“I’m sure most of you won’t know the song I’m about to sing because it’s by an American by the name of Jewel, but I chose this song for it reminds me of someone in this very room. He of course has no idea that I’m talking about him. I hope all of you like it.” she said before sitting down at a large oak grand piano and adjusting the microphone one last time began to play.
“You took your coat off and stood in the rain, You're always crazy like that.
And I watched from my window, Always felt I was outside looking in on you.
You're always the mysterious one with Dark eyes and careless hair,
You were fashionably sensitive, But too cool to care.
You stood in my doorway, with nothing to say
Besides some comment on the weather.

Well in case you failed to notice,
In case you failed to see, This is my heart bleeding before you, This is me down on my knees, and...

These foolish games are tearing me apart,
And your thoughtless words are breaking my heart.
You're breaking my heart, You're breaking my heart.

You're always brilliant in the morning, when Smoking your cigarettes and talking over coffee.
Your philosophies on art, Baroque moved you. You loved Mozart and you'd speak of your loved ones
As I clumsily strummed my guitar. Well, excuse me, guess I've mistaken you for somebody else.
Somebody who gave a damn, Somebody more like myself.

These foolish games are tearing me apart,
And your thoughtless words are breaking my heart.
You're breaking my heart, You're breaking my heart.

You took your coat off, and stood in the rain, You're always crazy like that.” Hermione finished her song and stood. The crowd clapped and cheered all except one man standing at the back of the great all in the most shadowed corner.

Severus Snape could not believe what he had heard. Hermione Granger the girl...woman who’d stolen his heart five months ago had just finished a song about someone with dark eyes. It described all the times they spent together. Severus also realized that this was a sad song, because he knew he’d been cold to her the last two months, and he’d said hurtful things to her after the potions accident.

Hermione flipped a strand of daffodil colored hair over her shoulder as she left the stage. The only reason she despised her new found hair color was the close association it gave her with the Malfoy family, people always asked if she were related to them. Severus hated her hair because it wasn’t Hermione, this was the popular snob with Hermione’s face. The boys had certainly started sniffing about after her change, most of the idiots never even noticed her before.

The song was not lost on Professor Dumbledore, who immediately upon hearing about dark eyes and careless hair matched the description to their owner. Severus Snape had the darkest eyes in Hogwarts and what was more careless than potion caused oily hair? He had noticed how close they’d been getting and then how quickly they’d parted.

“Severus, Don’t mind an old man’s prying but what exactly has happened between you and Miss Granger?” Dumbledore asked, after silently slinking up next to Severus.

“ I can’t look at her, she looks too....snobbish now. I’m a complete idiot for saying that. It seems like that is an imposter using a poor glamour to disguise herself as Hermione.” Severus said emotionlessly as he motioned toward Hermione. Dumbledore could only nod and observe Hermione as she talked to the males swarming her like a pack of rabid wolves.

“By snobbish you’re afraid she may be out of your league, correct?” Dumbledore asked, his blue eyes sparkling. Severus rolled his eyes.

“She is out of my league, She’s young, intelligent, thoughtful, and beautiful. I’m just a dried up old death eater with nothing to offer but a big nose and greasy hair.” Severus said. Dumbledore would always be the only person to know his fears.
