The Life and Times of Denebola Black

This first "chapter" is really just telling you the background for my fic and giving you the warnings for what I think will happen. If any of it bugs you at all, then please don't read the fic, and bear in mind that it will be a dark fic, and if not it will have dark themes and elements and if you don't want to read something with those elements then quite frankly I don't think you should even read the backstory. While there is nothing graphic in it, I know that there are people like my friends mother (bless her) that can barely even watch a disney movie because they scare her or gross her out in the disney dark parts.


Background for this fic:

When Hermione turned 17 at the beginning of sixth year she looked in the mirror and found that her appearance had changed. No longer was she a short and skinny young lass with unruly mouse brown hair and dull brown eyes, but instead a tall buxom woman with straight black hair reaching two thirds of the way down her back, her eyes a milk chocolate brown with gold flecks scattered throughout the irises and her face now that of aristocratic pureblood of the Black line. There were a few other traits that were slightly familiar to her, but could not place to any particular lineage that she could think of off-hand. When she had gone to confront her "parents" she had learned that she was the bastard child of Regulus Black and Barbara Crouch (sister to Barty Jr that I made up). This explained to her how she could look so much like Bellatrix. Regulus had defected from Lord Voldemort and Barbara gave her child up to a muggle family after months of hiding out and not letting on that she was pregnant in the hopes of the child's survival as she knew both that their times were short upon this earth; her lovers for defecting and hers for not turning him in before he could. Sirius took Hermione in after her discovery.

The final battle took place after the trio graduated from Hogwarts, though they were not the tight-knit group they had been previously. Ron (nor Ginny for that matter) would not look past the fact that her birth mother had been a Death Eater to the end and that her father had been one for a few years as well. He would tell her that it was in her blood to betray the Light. After a while of this type of unrelenting abuse from her former crush she gave up on him entirely and Harry was put in the middle, refusing to choose one of his friends over the other. It didn't help that after she learned this at the beginning of sixth year the other purebloods, particularly Slytherins were becoming more and more friendly to her. (This was on orders to try and woo her away from her friends and join the Dark) Early on into the FB, Ron and Hermione were each, though separately, in a bit of a pickle with some of the Death Eaters. Finally forced to choose between his two best friends, Harry chose Ron. Hermione just barely escaped with her life and limbs, no thanks to anyone else. At that moment she made an irrational and snap decision to no longer fight with the Light and prove Ron true. With the trio broken and a traitor in their midst, the Light didn't have a chance. Oh, and there were no horcruxes; or at least if there were no one knew.

Once Harry was spectacularly killed all the rest were taken as hostages and questioned under Veriteserum as to their allegiances as well as any knowledge they might have on the Light that could be useful to the Dark. Some had been shocked to learn that the newly found Black/Crouch heir had no particular allegiance but was now leaning towards the Dark, but those who had noticed her pull off a rather remarkable Crucio on the youngest male Weasley during the FB and had heard the progress of the childrens efforts on her were quick to accept this truth and work on swaying her allegiance to the Dark now that she was known to be of pure blood.
It didn't take them all that long to bring her all the way over. Among many things it had turned out that she had been extremely mad at the world for making her miss out on growing up with her heritage and as much as she liked having all the knowledge of the muggle world that she did, she was sorely lacking so much that most purebloods took for granted by way of proper ettiquette for certain situations and stuff like that. Her captors had taken it upon themselves to teach her all that she had missed.

The first chapter is going to start three years after the FB and a little over 5 years since she found out her true parentage. In the three years other than the basic pureblood knowledge, Hermione also learned a lot of Dark Magic, which she had shown amazing potential for. Once she had been broken down from the Light, the Dark Lord himself had taken it upon himself to teach her the ways of a Death Eater and how she would be expected to act, as well as honing her Dark Magic skills. He had been proud of the fact that once she had been trained up properly, and truth be told even before that, she showed an affinity to torture that he had only seen rivaled in his lover Bellatrix, though their methods were as different as night and day. Bella loved the Unforgivables, whilst Hermione looked to muggle history and fairy tales for her inspiration in her punishments. It would be hard to say who put their victims in more pain but Hermione's way was definately more showy and whenever she was called in for a torture other Death Eaters would ofen find themselves stopping by to watch the woman at work as it was a sight to see, many of them knowing nothing about many of the muggle torture devices.

With Barty under the kiss and Sirius killed at Hermione's hand she had now inherited both the Crouch and Black fortunes to do with what she saw fit. The rule of the Dark Lord didn't do much to change the pureblood society that she was now a part of; it mostly only affected muggles and mudbloods as well as many half bloods.

Even with Harry Potter dead there were many who held out hope that the ever-decreasing Light would come back and prevail but every time their dwindling numbers would spearhead an attack they would end up captured or killed; death being preferable. It had now gotten to the point that while the people were hopeful, there was almost no one who was willing to fight against the Dark who was starting to impose their will in muggle Britain as well as wizarding.

Hermione has decided to change her name in the spirit of being a true Black. Since her father's name was Regulus, after the brightest star in the constellation Leo, she chose the name of the star on the other side; Denebola. She had thought that it was rather ironic that it was the constellation 'lion' as she had been only the second Gryffindor Black in recent history and that the name of the Lion's Tail would be fitting, though she would go by the nickname of Deni (despite the fact that the star's nickname is Deneb).

As I said the first chapter will take place 3 years after the final battle. It will also be starting the week leading up to Hermione's coming out ball (on New Years Eve), where the Dark Lord has decided to present her to pureblood society under her new name and find her a suitable husband. While she had known many of those her age she had spent these last few years locked up before she embraced the Dark and then was either in Voldemort's home or her own. Everyone knew who she was but she had never had the chance to have her coming out ball at the age of seventeen like the other purebloods. The Dark Lord wants to see her married off to a proper Death Eater family and after the ball he plans on acting as her father would do in going over all pros and cons of any marraige proposal and help her decide on who she would choose, whether for love, lust, or politics.

No matter how much Hermione becomes a part of pureblood and Death Eater society there are quite a few things from her muggle upbringing that she refuses to let go of..... these include music, ballet, clothing as she feels robes all the time are quite boring no matter how many pretty robes one has. Also, she had a computer and an internet connection at her home because really, its just so convenient. (and helps with her *cough, my, cough* torture research)

And I guess that's all the backstory you need in order to pick up right into the story; I know I left out quite a bit when it comes to the other people but I hope to show their fates within the story.

Warnings for this fic:

I am also going to right here admit that there are one or two things that will be in this fic that were inspired by the Beuaty Chronicles by Anne Rice, but hopefully nothing blatant. I have seen a couple fics that were really quite blatant about it and they just bothered me to no end because it seemed as though they were just trying to rewrite her work, which is impossible, rather than just take an idea or two of hers and expand on it. There is also a plotbunny in my head that would be coming from Interview with the Vampire and The Vampire Armand (my favourite character in the vampire chronicles) but we'll see if I use it or not.

Also, while this won't be a Hermione does everyone that walks fic, the two pairing involved are Hermione/Lucius and Hermione/Dark Lord. Any sequels will have a different pairing. Ummm, I'm thinking there will also be at least one time that would definately be considered exhibitionism.

There will be vivid descriptions of torture and possibly gore because that is one of the main reasons that I'm so particularly fond of Dark fics. One of the other major reasons is just that its sooooo much more fun, and for me easy, to write a dark fic than a nice little fluffy one, as my other stories and their lack of updates can attest to despite the fact that I have ideas for them, I just can't write them in a manner that I'm willing to post. This Hermione is going to be sweet, but she will also be absolutely viscious. There was two and a half years of bringing her down to her bare minimun no matter how unconcious it was for her before she broke in the FB. Then it took a couple of years to mould her into the perfect Death Eater, she is now who Voldemort wishes her to be though it is because it is who she wants to be after so long of being a miss-perfect little Gryffindor.

So, I may or may not involve everything that I warned for on the description, but I learned with one of my previous fics that while you can go and edit the summary and other details, I can't find a way to edit the warnings except add them into the summary and I'd rather use that room for an actual summary so I put everything that has even the slightest chance of making it into this fic. And as I said at the top of this page. If you think that any of this will bother you then please don't this fic. I'd rather have less readers and less reviews than people reading it getting (really) disgusted at it and then flaming me for not liking it. Really, I just have a sick twisted demented mind and a really bad temper that I keep way too controlled so I need me an outlet before I go insane! Or kill my brother. Neither would work out too well for me.
