Je te Souhaite les Etoiles
*
“It’s beautiful, Draco.”
Harry smiled softly down at the perfectly formed white rose that lay in his palm. From in front of him came the soft sound of running water, trickling over the rocks and flowing down the wide river.
He looked up and smiled at Draco. Draco sat next to him, the dark night washing over his features as he sat with him in the grass of the riverbank.
“That’s not all,” Draco said quietly, and Harry looked shocked.
“Not all?” he asked incredulously. “Draco, you took me to France, gave me a wonderful vacation, and this isn’t all?!”
“Of course not!” Draco exclaimed. “What kind of anniversary gift would that be?”
Harry stared at Draco as he reached for his bag, pulling it to him and rummaging through it.
While Draco looked, Harry allowed his vision to wander. He looked over the slight crest of the dark hill and to the river beyond. They were somewhere in the French countryside, Harry didn’t know where exactly, but Draco had Apparated them there not too long ago.
Harry could see the dark shore of the river and hear the water tumbling over the rocks there. He sighed happily and smile as he sat next to Draco. He couldn’t have imagined a better anniversary.
They had only been together a year, but it felt much longer to Harry. After the war, they had realized they had a lot more in common than they had previously thought.
Harry looked over as Draco stopped rummaging in the bag. He tilted his head curiously. “What’s that?” he asked, trying to see what Draco had in his hand.
“Uh uh,” Draco said, shaking his head. “You wouldn’t want me to ruin it, would you?”
Harry pouted. “Please? Come on, Draco, tell me.”
Draco eyed him suspiciously for a moment. “Close your eyes,” he said finally.
Harry hesitated, but after a stern look from Draco, he did so. “Now what?”
“Hold on a minute,” Draco said impatiently.
Harry huffed dramatically and fell silent. He waited impatiently for several minutes but heard nothing. He only felt a light autumn breeze that was drifting up the hill from the water.
After another few moments of silence, Harry sighed. “Can I open them now?”
There was a pause, then Draco spoke. “Yes.”
Harry opened his eyes and looked at Draco. Draco said nothing and Harry was confused. Then he looked down and his jaw dropped.
Every inch of the ground, at least a four foot circumference around them, was covered in white and red rose petals. Harry was speechless for a moment as he stared at the flowers. Then he noticed a small box sitting in front of him on the ground. The box was covered in white silk and tied with a deep red bow.
He reached out for it carefully, glancing at Draco. Draco’s expression was blank as he watched Harry pick up the box. Harry cracked open the lid and his eyes widened.
“Holy shit.”
“Very eloquently put,” Draco drawled from his side.
Harry didn’t reply, just stared at the sparkling diamond ring that lay on a cushion of red silk. He looked up at Draco, lost for words. “A-are you kidding me?!”
“I hope not,” Draco replied smoothly. “Marry me, Harry.”
Harry could only stare at Draco then at the ring and Draco again. “I—oh my god,” he breathed, staring at the beautiful jewel.
Draco didn’t say anything as he waited for Harry’s response. He was eyeing Harry carefully as Harry continued to stare at the box in is hands.
Suddenly and without warning, Harry launched himself at Draco, knocking him to the ground. Draco was surprised as Harry pressed hungry kisses to his lips.
At last, Draco pulled away, breathing heavily from the kisses. “Is that a yes?” he asked dubiously.
“Are you kidding me?!” Harry exclaimed for the second time. Draco gave him a withering look and he grinned mischievously. “Yes, it’s a yes.”
Draco grinned and rolled his eyes. “You are very odd, you know that?”
“Yes,” Harry replied, leaning into Draco, centimeters from his lips.
“And yet, I love you anyway,” Draco sighed, smirking at him.
Harry laughed and kissed Draco softly. “Must be a character flaw.”
Draco scoffed and slapped Harry lightly on the shoulder. “You must be one big character flaw, then.”
“Hey!” Harry protested, but leaned into Draco all the same, gazing down to the water where the moon reflected off its glassy surface.
They were silent for a moment and Harry reached for the box, opening it and taking out the ring. He looked at it for a second, inspecting the glittering diamond in the starlight. Finally, he slid it on his left ring finger and smiled as it glinted.
“Je te souhaite les étoiles,” Draco murmured softly.
“What?” Harry asked, confused.
“I wish you the stars, Harry,” Draco replied quietly.
Harry sighed and leaned against Draco, smiling when he felt Draco’s arm wrap around his waist and tug him closer. “I love you, Draco.”
“Et moi aussi, Harry, me too.”
