A Sordid Affair

A/N: hey I found this in my archives this morning as I was packing my Lab top. I decided to post it. I'm writing some other stories so I dont know if I should continue this. I wanted to post it because I'm going away for the weak and I wanted to give my readers something to read while I'm gone. It's an older story I didn't think was good enough to continue but it's something. Let me know I apologize if it's horrible.

Full summery: Draco has the perfect wife, beautiful elegant, understanding. Harry has the perfect wife, the girl everyone thought he would marry. Draco isn’t happy, Harry isn’t satisfied. What happens when Draco’s wife decides she wants Harry? What do Harry and Draco really want? Will Ginny stand by and let her husband be snatched from her clutches. It’s all going to end in one very sordid affair.

If there was one thing that Draco Malfoy hated it was….wait. There were a lot of things he hated at the present moment. He hated this restaurant with its “class” (yeah right class) and its people with their gushing faces and their gossip. You would think that spying for he light side would endear him to a few people but alas. It was his fate as a Malfoy to be hated. Well at least along with that he was feared and respected.

The chink of crystal goblets was almost louder then the violin screeching in the background. He eyed the woman next to him, wives are…a bit of a nuisance always there he thought to himself. Michelle was dressed in an elegant evening gown her long brown hair neatly pinned up. Her white evening gloved hands rested gently on his arm. To the world they looked the picture of elegant grace, of a happy marriage. Well they were happy enough. After the war ended and he had graduated from Hogwarts he had fled to the Americas.

He had wanted as far away from England and its hypocrisies as possible. He shuddered his parents had wanted to marry him off to Parkinson. No wonder he was on the first flight out of England. He had spent the next four years in a sort of artistic exile. New York had been one of the happiest times of his life. But the noose had tightened, his father had oweld him and told him that either he marry Pansy or he would be disinherited. Now Draco was neither vain nor selfish but he had no job, and did not relish the thought of living on the streets.

How to keep his fortune and escape marriage with Pansy, well if he wrote back that he was ever so sorry but already married his father could hardly fault him. Well as long as she was wealthy and of pure blood that is. Michelle was both, and a good friend. They had entered a marriage of convenience. And it worked well for both of them, they had married and they got on well together. Michelle understood his need for freedom and his moods. They had both strived to get out from under their overbearing fathers thumbs.

Draco had a job in the American ministry dealing with trade back and forth between the two countries. He had amassed over the years a fortune of his own, he need no longer depend on his father. They were friends, not lovers. Draco had never really looked at women the way perhaps he should. Michelle liked men well enough but understood his needs. They often had friendly chats about the lovers they took. Niether was jellouse of the other, they were friends and happy for each other.

Except happy was the last thing Draco seemed to be these days. He didn’t want any of this, he had thought he did. The sparkle and the glitter of it all, the companionship with his wife was nice but…he wanted more. He wanted what Potter had with his wife.

Draco almost choked on his wine. He had been watching Potter and girl Weasel for about an hour. The ministry ball was a big event; they were celebrating a successful year. The new laws on trade had filled both ministries coffers to the brink. American ministry officials were mingling with British ones in companionship. Draco bit back a snort, yeah right. He knew given a chance for greater gain either minister would stab the other in the back such was politics.

He was twenty six, he hadn’t seen Potter since a year after the war. He’d been eighteen then. Potter and he had shaken hands, if only for the flashing of cameras and the scratching of quick quote quills. “Malfoy helps potter defeat Dark lord.” Screamed the headlines, Draco had leaked the dark lords plans to the order allowing Harry his victory. They smiled and waved like best friends in front of the cameras. He hated the git.

Well not for any particular reason other then his arrogance and lack of manners. He was hardly a school boy to carry grudges. He recognized that he was more angry with this feeling of dissatisfaction in his own life then he was with Potter. Potter was leaning down to whisper sweet nothings into his wife’s ear. She flushed a little and swatted his arm playfully. They were societies golden couple, and they were in love with each other. They had love, and as un-Malfoy as that sounded he wanted it too.

Was it childish to be a little upset that Potter got everything?

{Harry’s view}

He really should have gone into theater. He could have been a star, not that he wasn’t rich and famous enough now. He could hardly move without a camera flashing in his face. Being head Auror was in itself cause for fame, but throw in he was the savior of the world and Harry Potter had it all. Fame more money then he could possibly deal with a beautiful wife and friends. Hermione was headmaster of Hogwarts School, Ron was one of the best keepers in the world. Surviving Voldemort had finally given him that confidence he needed to actually use his skills at quiditch.

With a smile plastered on his face and a blushing wife at his side you would think that Harry Potter was the luckiest and happiest man on earth. He could have rocked the world if he had become an actor. Because Happy was the farthest thing he was from right now, he wanted to kick something or someone. He wanted to tell Ginny to stop clinging to his arm. Except that would hurt her and that was really the last thing he wanted to do. He and Ginny liked each other, they were friends.

Ginny had never been in love, well at one point she had thought herself in love with him and in a way she was. She was in love with the glamour that surrounded him. In love with a lot of things about him but not in love with him it seemed. She was perfectly happy pretending to be in love with him though. She had nice cloths, she was respected she was societies little queen. He was happy to give that to her, the youngest in a poor family it was a sort of attention she could never of hoped to get.

Watching her face light up did give him a certain amount of joy, and she was beautiful. It wasn’t too hard to convince everyone they were madly in love. It was getting harder to convince himself that this was enough, that maybe instead of throwing himself on the altar to give someone else happiness he should have waited to find his own. That hero complex thing Hermione and Draco had both accused him of having.

He shook his head as if to clear it, that couldn’t be it. No one was stupid enough to throw away their own happiness for the sake of someone else. Except him it seemed. The emotions he was feeling never showed on his face, he was the happy little hero as always.

{Draco’s view}

It was almost disgusting watching him dance with her they way they both smiled and Ginny’s eyes glowed with happiness. He had to admit though the soft candle light did wonderful things to Potters hair. Those raven lochs of his looked soft as silk, and that lean body strong and almost lethal rapped in elegant dress robes. When had Potter gone from annoying and passing good looking to hateful and sexy beyond belief?

Probably when you became so desperate for that kind of love that you’d take it from Weasle if he had offered it, Draco thought to himself. Michelle waltzed up to his side, returning from a dance with a tall brown haired man who was eyeing her like a kid with candy. Draco nodded to him and rolled his eyes. “Found a new boa have you?” He asked her with a raised eyebrow.

She tensed a little and eyed him coolly, “Why the mockery? What’s wrong it never mattered to you before?” Draco winced; he had no right to take out his anger on Michelle. He had not intention of sleeping with her, and none of getting a divorce so why not let her seek her own happiness.

“He’s not as good as some of the others, you deserve better is all.” He sighed staring into his wine glass. Her lips softened into a smile and she placed one gloved hand on his shoulder.

“You know I sometimes think I got the better end of our deal, I wasn’t the one in love when we married.” She whispered into his ear.

Draco frowned in puzzlement, “Pansy? Are you kidding I married you to escape her!” He scoffed. Michelle’s laughter tinkled in his ear and he smiled a little. She could always cheer him up; she was his only true friend.

“No not that cow, you need to take a real deep look at yourself some day Draco. I’m a woman and I know these things. You have been in love for a very long time whether you realize it or not.” Her beautiful lips broke into a smile, “And I’m going to have fun watching you figure it out.”

Before he could ask her to clarify the song ended and she glanced out over the crowd. Her eyes halted on Harry and she smiled, “Hey Draco is that the Harry Potter you moan and groan about all the time. The famous savoir of the world?” She asked nodding towards Harry.

Draco felt his lips curl in disgust, “Yeah that’s Potter the witless wonder all right. With the manners of a monkey and the brain of a slug.”

Michelle burst into giggles and gave him a pitying glance, “he looks better in person. He was always a dish in the paper pictures but they don’t do him justice. He looks terrible, poor you to grow up having to see his face everyday.” She laughed.

He couldn’t tell whether she was being serious or not, judging by the glint of laughter in her eyes he doubted it. “Don’t be fooled by those passing good looks, he’s the biggest prat that ever walked the planet. Plus he’s so full of himself it’s a wonder how he can tear himself away from his mirror every morning.

Michelle cocked one elegant eyebrow, “Oh I understand completely, look how he picks up her shawl and guides her into a chair. Your right a complete jerk, a monkey how did you survive it.”

Draco felt the laughter he was holding back burst free of his restraint. “I don’t know just barely I supposed.”

She laughed with him then eyed Potter with a speculative glance, “In all seriousness Draco he is extremely good looking. He’s got a body to make a woman sweat over, do you think he can be tempted away from his wife.”

Draco’s smile dimmed a little, he usually enjoyed watching Michelle’s hunt for new game. She was a bit of a man eater, but she had her boundaries. Married men were usually a line she didn’t cross.

“Potter in case you haven’t noticed is a married man; I can’t see how you couldn’t have noticed the red leach on his arm.” Draco hissed in disgust. Girl weasel mad him nauseous.

“A leech, she seems like a nice enough girl. A bit starry eyed but nice, but a leech if you insist Draco darling. I don’t much care, look at him you cant blame a woman for trying and I am going to try….unless you have dibs or something?” She eyed him with a curious glance.

“On Potter! The thought gives me nightmares! Your welcome to him, I can’t see why you would want to he’s probably diseased by now. I swear the Weasley’s carry something, there has got to be some reason they’re the way they are.” With that he strode away as if he didn’t care. As if his gut weren’t churning with… jealousy? He had never been jealous of his wife’s conquests before. Did he feel more for Michelle then he thought he did…or was it Harry. He shuddered, god forbid! He needed another glass of wine.

{Change of view}

Michelle watched her husband and best friend stride away; she could read him like a book even if he couldn’t read himself. She had listened to him rant about Potter every time she read his name in the papers. It was because she listened to him, when he rarely listened to himself that she was sure that behind all that boyhood rivalry Draco felt more for Harry then he was willing to admit.

She was almost convinced that if not in love he at least desired Harry, and above all his happiness was what she wanted for him. She was happy enough. She had never been in love, she liked nice things and a good time. She had that, so she was content but her best friend the one person who understood her was growing less and less content each day.

It hurt to see him sliding into such bitterness; she feared that it was like a poison, their marriage was like a poison. Over time it would weaken and kill a part of him.

Leaving what?

She didn’t want to know, she wasn’t going to let it happen. The society they lived in was rich with censure and gossip. To all appearances she and Draco had the perfect marriage, she knew better. It also appeared that so did Potter, and to her dismay she couldn’t find any sort of proof that it was otherwise. It was clear to see that he had his wife dazzled. He himself looked happy and content.

So she would use society to her advantage, if she could rope Potter into a sordid affair it would accomplish three things. One the stars in his wife’s eyes would be snuffed out and their marriage ruined. Potter would have to take a second look at whether or not he was really in love with his wife and be open to another relationship. It would also give Draco the grounds to divorce her. And work on getting together with Harry.

It was a sound enough plan; putting it into action however was going to be tricky. Harry might prove her right and be just as noble and goodhearted as she thought he was. Seducing him was not going to be easy, but she planed to do it in full view of Draco. Hopefully he would get jealous enough to realize his feelings for Potter.

It was strange to think that if she had her way Draco would gain his happiness by infidelity and one very sordid affair.

A/N: Oh and just to mention I really liked it when another Author I was reading did this on my profiel I'll post when I update a story or what chapter for what story I'm working on so you will know! Be sure to check.
