Comfort By The Fire
The dying fire in the
Gryffindor common room was the only light available when Harry decided he had
given up trying to sleep. ‘It must be about 3:30 a.m.’ he thought. Making his
way to his favorite chair in front of the fire, he sat down only to sit on
something squishy and hairy.
“AAAAAAHHHHH!” Hermione
screamed jumping out of the chair, “What are you doing here, Harry?”
“Me? What are you doing
here Hermione? Why aren’t you asleep?”
“I was just thinking about
. . . things.” Hermione’s eyes were all puffy and bloodshot, and she had been
crying. It had been only a month since her parents had been killed by
Voldemort’s lackeys. She had been dealing with her grief admirably, given the
fact that she had a huge amount of stress on her already.
Harry sat down in the
chair, and bringing Hermione with him, pulled his best friend into a tight hug,
and soothingly stroked her hair and back. He felt horrible, knowing most of her
stress came from him; she knew the prophecy, she was doing overtime in the
library to help prepare him for the battle, on top of that she had her prefect
duties and her parents.
Hermione relaxed into
Harry’s chest, buried her face in his shoulder and sobbed her heart out. She
couldn’t help but feel safe in Harry’s arms. She’d had feelings for her raven
haired best friend for the past few years, but could never get up the
Gryffindor courage to say anything to him about it. Taking a deep breath, she
inhaled the wonderful smell she had come to know as Harry, like being in the
woods on a sunny day, pine trees and sunshine.
Slowly her crying ebbed
but he was still holding her, slightly rocking her back and forth, and playing
with her hair. She looked up into his startlingly brilliant eyes, something she
seldom did, because she would give her self away too easily, and found he was
staring back at her with an odd expression on his face.
Harry was lost. His best
friend was in so much pain because of him and all he could think was ‘Gods she
is so beautiful.’ All he wanted to do was holding Hermione and take her pain
away, he couldn’t bear the thought that the woman he loved was in so much pain.
To him she was an angel: smart, funny, gorgeous in an ethereal way, but he
could never tell her that, it would ruin their friendship, because she would
never have thoughts like that about him.
Looking down at her, he
noticed her cinnamon eyes were staring into his, and her face was slightly
flushed, she was everything he wanted. Throwing all doubts out of his head he
leaned down slowly, and captured Hermione’s lips in a sweet and passionate
kiss. She responded by bringing her arms up to the base of his neck, and
running her fingers through his hair, and deepening the kiss. It was amazing,
and the first of many more to come.
The end.
