Saving the World is Really Annoying

Saving the World is Really Annoying

Nothing in the Harry Potter universe belongs to me. I am getting no compensation other than the thrill of the occasional review.

Prolog:

The ceremony had been short to the point and ridiculously uncomfortable. There was to be no reception at least not one that the new couple would attend. There were many parties that night but the newly weds simply left for their agreed upon residence in near silence. upon reaching his ancestral home, Draco led Harry on a brief tour before showing him to his suite and introducing him to the house elf that had been assigned to his comfort.

“This is Minky. She will come whenever you call and provide anything that you need or desire.”

Harry smiled at the slightly frightened looking creature. Holding out his hand he introduced himself. “I am Harry, Minky. It is a pleasure to meet you. The small house elf tentatively reached her hand out to meet Harry’s, gasping as the young man gently raised it to his lips before letting it go. “Does Master Harry be needing anything?”

“No. I am fine. I will call you to lead me to dinner, if you wouldn’t mind.”

The tiny elf curtsied prettily as if she had just received a brilliant compliment. “Minky is proud to lead you to dinner, Master Harry. I is answering when you call.”

Draco sneered to hide his shock at the interaction as the pop signified that they were alone. “Well Potter, you can be so bloody polite and charming. I don’t suppose that you save any of that for us mere humans do you?”

Eyeing the blond coolly Harry seemed to consider his answer. “Perhaps, but then death eaters aren’t really human are they?”

Draco bristled with anger and felt surprisingly hurt. “Fuck you, Potter! I wouldn’t expect a half blood like yourself to know who is worthy.” Before Draco could work up to a full rant Harry gestured imperiously towards the door.

“If you will kindly excuse me, I have several things to accomplish before dinner.”

Draco was taken aback by how calm and cold the once fiery Gryffindor was in his dismissal. recognizing that he was somehow at a disadvantage in this conversation he turned and left the room without another word. This wasn’t the way this was supposed to go. Draco, along with many others, had been very interested when the ministry had posted the proposal that shocked most of the wizarding world. They wanted to marry the boy who lived to a ranking death eater. The plan was to invoke the ancient treaty of pacem dare. It was a rite intended to end war the words in Latin simply meant to grant peace.

Harry Potter had killed Voldemort over six months ago, but that did not stop the remaining death eaters from continuing the fight. The side of the light was winning, even the staunchest supporters of the other side knew this, but that didn’t stop the deaths of innocents. It wasn’t hard for Draco to guess that Harry had agreed to this to prevent any more death. It was not surprising that idea was popular to both sides. Voldemort’s supporters could concede without facing Azkaban, and the light could quit watching their backs. The war would finally be over.

Many applied to wed the Golden boy, from the young ones that had gone to Hogwarts with him, to hardened older people like Bellatrix and Dolohov. Draco had sent in his own application hoping that his rival would be intrigued enough to give it a second look. No one was more surprised when the contract had arrived via owl. It was very cold and written in legalize. The salient points were basically that this would be a marriage of convenience, the obligations were those that came with the ritual. They would be bonded, they would live in the same home, they would spend enough time together to keep the bond alive, and they would never be able to dissolve the contract. Being the Slytherin that he was, Draco was sure that he could work within this framework to achieve his goals. He would immediately get a certain prestige that had been lacking since his father had been caught in the ministry trying to procure the famous prophecy. He also had no qualms in admitting that he wanted the man himself. Draco had never seen such beauty and power as the night that Voldemort was destroyed. The man had moved with grace, speed and determination. It had been like watching him on a broom. He had been magnificent.

One thing he knew that was on his side, was time. They would be together for the rest of their lives. He had time to convince the stubborn Gryffindor that he was meant to belong to Draco. With that thought in mind, he went to meet his recently released Father and his mother in the drawing room.
