Werewolves of London

Author’s Note

Everything you recognize is the property of J.K. Rowling. I am making no money from writing this story.

I was wondering how Severus would deal if he had to spend a summer living in muggle London with Hermione. Here’s the deal. The Dark Lord is gone; Albus didn’t die (Damnit, I won’t let him!), the local werewolves are up to no good, and Severus has to stay with Hermione as she helps him uncover a very nasty plot.

I hope you all enjoy.

Severus sat down across from the old wizard’s desk and looked at him curiously. “You said you needed to see me right away, Albus. What’s the matter?”

“We have a very strange situation on our hands, Severus, and I believe you’re just the wizard to get to the bottom of this.” Dumbledore stated solemnly.

“What’s the situation exactly?” Severus asked suspiciously.

He knew Albus Dumbledore well enough to know that if there was a ‘situation’ that needed tending to, it meant that an assignment was about to be given to him. Sometimes it seemed like he was the only person the old wizard trusted for anything of importance to the Order. It wasn’t that he didn’t like going on assignment, but with Voldemort finally gone, he had hoped for at least a few months of peace and quiet. Apparently, that wasn’t going to be the case.

Dumbledore leaned towards him and said, “The Ministry believes that the local werewolves are up to something, but they don’t yet know what it is. There have been a lot of rumors circulating around, but nothing solid as of yet. We need you to stay in muggle London with someone who will assist you in finding out what the werewolves are up to.”

Severus frowned. “Surveillance, Albus? Isn’t this ‘someone’ able to do that on their own?”

“Oh, this Witch is quite capable,” Albus smiled, “But this task involves more than just surveillance, my boy. You and your assistant must stop the werewolves from carrying out their plan once you find out what it is. As you know, werewolves are vicious beasts. Since you are not only a great wizard but a great fighter as well, you’re exactly the man we need for this assignment.”

He sat back in the seat and crossed his arms in front of him. “With all due respect, Headmaster, I’m perfectly capable of performing this task alone. Why do you feel it necessary for me to have an assistant?”

The old wizard’s smile faded into a somber expression, “Because the werewolves have been watching this Witch rather closely as of late. The Ministry feels that she must have something they need in order to carry out whatever their plans are. She lives alone, so the Ministry is worried about her safety. Frankly, so am I, since she is a former student of Hogwarts.”

“Just tell me already.” Severus groaned, “Who is she?”

Dumbledore paused for a moment then reluctantly answered, “It’s Hermione Granger. She’s the one they’re after.”

Severus rolled his eyes. “Oh, Merlin, that insufferable little chit? Didn’t I have enough of her in my class? Really, Albus, you must hate me.”

“Oh come now, Severus!” the old wizard scowled, “Even you admitted to me that she was the brightest student you’ve ever taught. I think she’ll do a splendid job helping you out on this assignment. I’m certainly not about to trust just anyone with her safety, so I must insist that you take this assignment.”

“I can’t believe you’re asking me to help that little know it all!” Severus muttered in an irritated tone, “She’s brilliant, yes, but absolutely reckless! She probably got her own self into whatever mess she’s in. Even without Potter and Weasley, she’s nothing but trouble.”

“I assure you, she knows nothing of why the werewolves have been stalking her.” Albus soothed, “She’s been rather reclusive since Harry’s death. Even Minerva and I haven’t seen her since she graduated. Aren’t you at least a little curious about how she’s turned out? It’s been three years, you know.”

“I never expected to see the little chit again, and I can’t say that I care to now!” He declared firmly, “She’s a sharp, stabbing pain in the neck if you ask me.”

“Regardless of your personal feelings towards her, she is still a member of the Order, and I must ask you to see to her safety.” Dumbledore stated firmly, “Werewolves are not creatures to be taken lightly, and they always travel in packs. I don’t think Miss Granger could handle them on her own.”

Severus sighed deeply and sneered at Dumbledore. “You’re not going to take no for an answer are you, Albus?”

Dumbledore’s smile returned and he slid a piece of parchment across the desk towards Severus. “Here is her address. Pack what you think you’ll need and meet her at her apartment tomorrow evening at seven o’ clock.”

Severus snatched the parchment quickly and stood up. "You owe me for this, Albus."
