Chapter 1 - Weird Wake-Up
Sirius opened his eyes, feeling weary. His head and back were aching terribly, he felt like he’d just run the marathon in his sleep. Raising his head, he looked around and started wondering where the hell he was. The bed he’d slept in was draped in the Gryffindor colours, just like his own, but in his room you’d be hard put to find an exquisite hairbrush, several bottles of hair spray and tubes of make-up spread out neatly in front of the mirror. This didn’t look like any place he’d seen before.
Raising his left hand to scratch his scalp, he noticed that he was lying in bed bare-chested, which was highly unusual for him. When he felt movement beside him, he turned his throbbing head and found himself facing a long mane of shiny, silky blonde hair, covering small, bare shoulders, allowing patches of glowing, snowy-white skin to shine through.
Racking his brain, Sirius tried to remember what on earth had happened to make him wake up next to a girl, half-naked. After seven years at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry with James Potter as his best friend and partner in causing trouble, Sirius was well acquainted to the dizzy feeling in his head: he knew it was caused by extensive drinking of alcohol.
“No more Firewhiskey for me,” he thought to himself, pushing himself up on his elbows and taking a huge breath to calm himself. It could not be that big of a mystery, he decided; he’d solve it sooner or later.
Looking around the room, he saw the navy button-down shirt he’d worn the day before lying carelessly on a squashy, bright-yellow armchair as if it had been thrown there. Underneath, he spotted a purple silk blouse, crumpled and inside-out. Heck, we must have had the hots badly last night, he thought, grinning at the picture that he so often saw inside his mind: The Sirius Black the girls at Hogwarts and out admired so much – at ease with the rest of the world, a winning smile extending to his grey eyes, brow furrowed slightly. The Sirius Black no woman in her right mind could ever resist…
Looking further around the room, he realized he must be stark naked in bed: his beloved paw-patterned boxers were lying on the floor next to the bed, entangled in the black bootlegged jeans he wore for festive reasons only. Still, he had no idea what special party might have gone on the night before, let alone who the girl next to him might be. She must be some Gryffindor, he concluded, for who else would use scarlet-and-gold bed spreads? Still, he didn’t remember ever seeing hair like hers at school, and she looked definitely too old to be a first-year who had started at Hogwarts after his graduation. He grinned to himself – yes, you could trust him to know all the other chicks that had been in school with him, from first year to seventh.
Fearing that she might be some Gryffindor’s muggle friend, he reached for his wand which was sticking out of his jeans’ back pocket, fought for a second to neither fall out of bed nor throw up, and then wordlessly cast a Contraceptive Charm – something he’d become perfect at during his fifth year – at his sleeping companion. The last thing we need, he thought soberly, is for me to have a child with a one-nighter I can’t even remember going on with…
He threw back the covers, grabbed his boxers and got out of bed. Hell, he was still feeling remotely shit-headed! What on earth had he been drinking? Normal stuff usually did not knock him out this badly!
Wearing boxers only, he walked towards the mirror, fixed his appearance with a casual flick of his wand, which afterwards he pointed at his navy shirt to eliminate the wrinkles and the strong smell of tobacco. After he’d dressed completely, he turned again to look at the sleeping girl and his eyes met a wizard photograph which caused his heart to drop into nothingness.
Grinning at him was his best mate, James, and next to him, now wearing a reproachful look, stood an extremely pretty girl with long, shiny auburn hair and startling green eyes – his girlfriend, Lily. Sirius really started questioning his sanity now. What on earth was he doing in a bedroom where a picture of Lily and James was perched on the bedside cabinet? WHO WAS THE GIRL IN THE BED!?
At that very moment, she started stirring, rolled over on her back and blinked as a ray of sunlight suddenly hit her eyes. She had a pale face with a rather large jawbone and a long, skinny neck. Sirius couldn’t help but think what his mouth might have been doing to that neck of hers some hours before – something really fun, if the love bites were any judgement… He wouldn’t exactly call her beautiful, but undoubtedly, there was a certain charisma about her which he found intoxicating. He’d never noticed anything like that in one of his schoolmates who would just start swooning at the sight of him, and drop to their knees if he so much as smiled. This girl didn’t look like she was one to believe everything people told her…
He now felt sure that she was about his age, maybe a year younger, and that he’d never seen her set foot into Hogwarts. A pang of relief hit him at having cast the Contracep and prevented this one night from carrying any consequences. Then the girl opened her eyes, which were an oddly pale shade of blue, and looked unfocusedly around the room until her gaze came to rest on him and she gasped slightly.
