What Did You Say To Him?

“Harry? Did you not hear me?”

Draco Malfoy sighed as he looked at his boyfriend of eight months, Harry Potter, as he stood before him, frozen in shock. This was not good. He had hoped to tell Harry this later, but Harry – the ever-stubborn Gryffindor – sensed something was wrong, and questioned him endlessly until he finally buckled.

Draco frowned sadly and sighed again. “Harry, look. I’m sorry. I wanted to wait till tonight to tell you, but…”

The doorbell rang. Draco and Harry stared at each other, suddenly locked in a private battle of what to do next. The doorbell rang again. Draco looked down and closed his eyes. He turned and walked over to the door, glancing one more time at Harry. He was still rooted to the spot, eyes staring out in space, and arms hanging limp by his sides.

Very bad indeed.

“What the bloody hell is going on, Malfoy? We’ve been out there for five minutes!” Ron Weasley blurted as soon as the door opened. He pushed his way past Draco, followed by his fiancée, Hermione Granger. He stopped short. “What the hell is wrong with Harry?” he demanded, noticing Harry’s stoic body and far off expression.

“Good to see you as well, Mr Weasley,” Draco said dryly. He turned to Hermione. “Miss Granger,” he acknowledged, smiling slightly, and tipping his head at her.

Hermione smirked. “Funny, Draco.” She glanced at Harry and furrowed her brows. “Draco? What is the matter with Harry?” Draco looked away. She turned to Harry. “Harry. What's wrong?”

“Malfoy, what did you say to him?” Ron accused briskly.

Draco snapped his head over to him and scowled. He opened his mouth to say, “How dare you,” but Harry interrupted him.

“I don’t believe you,” he said softly, eyes showing his pain.

Draco inhaled sharply. He didn’t expect that response at all. “Harry, please. Now’s not the best time…”

“Oh, yes it is, Malfoy,” Ron hissed.

“We can talk about this when we get home after dinner,” Draco said firmly, ignoring the fuming redhead.

Hermione watched the interchange between the three men. Ron with his hands clenched tightly into fists, Draco defensive with his arms crossed over his chest, and Harry… Harry looked as if his world had crumbled beneath his feet. She knew this had to be settled now. How could Draco possibly think that this would wait until later?

“Draco,” she began calmly. “Dinner can wait. Perhaps you both can go into the other room, and....”

“Hermione, no! If that bastard has something to say …”

“I-I can't believe you said that,” Harry whispered, lowering his head and shaking it slowly.

Draco took a deep breath. “Harry. Please.”

“I knew this would happen! Harry, come on. We’re getting the fuck…”

“Were you really serious?” Harry asked. He was almost to the point of crying.

“That’s it! You’re coming with us, Harry. Malfoy can just …”

“This is between Harry and me, Weasley,” Draco said, trying to keep his voice even.

“Not anymore, it’s not,” Ron spat and took a step towards the blond.

Harry blinked and it appeared as if he had just noticed Ron and Hermione for the first time. He shook his head at his best friend.

“Ron, wait,” Hermione said gently, grabbing Ron’s arm. Ron stood fast but glared at Draco.

Harry sank to his knees and covered his face. He felt Ron rush over to Draco.

“Ron! No!” Hermione and Harry said at the same time.

The three others froze as they looked down to their tear-streaked friend. “Tell them, Draco.”

“Damn it, Harry. No.

“You heard him, Malfoy. Tell us!”

“Ron,” Hermione whispered.

Harry looked at Hermione and Ron, then back to Draco. He bit his lip and slowly stood. New tears fell. Draco looked away from the piercing green eyes.

“Don’t do this to me, Potter. You know I can't,” he confessed softly.

Ron was furious, Hermione was now more than ever confused, and Harry began laughing – almost hysterically.

“You really meant it then.” Harry wiped his tears away. “You did, didn’t you?”

“Harry, please,” Draco said, just over a whisper. “Not in front of them.”

“What the FUCK did you say to him, Malfoy?”

“You meant it! You really meant it!” Harry laughed, covering his face once more. He quickly ran behind Draco, and wrapped his arms around him protectively, and hid his face in between Draco's shoulder blades. Draco felt Harry tremble. “Tell them,” Harry said, words muffled. Harry peered up at Ron and Hermione. “Tell them, Draco,” he whispered in his boyfriend’s ear. “I dare you.” Harry began to giggle.

“Would you look at him, Hermione?” Ron squeaked, pointing at Harry. “He’s gone mental!”

Hermione nodded, expression still scrunched in confusion.

“Tell them. Tell them. Tell them,” Harry repeated, bouncing up and down, but Draco's body remained still.

Draco turned his face to watch his ‘mental’ boyfriend in action and smirked. He shook his head and barely rolled his eyes at Harry. He turned his attention back to Ron and Hermione. Ron was past livid, and Hermione was… well, still completely confused. Draco chuckled and rolled his eyes again, this time exaggeratingly.

“It’s not bloody funny, Malfoy! Now TELL US!”

Draco smirked. “Mr Weasley,” he began calmly. “I merely told Harry that I love him.”

Harry squealed. Draco winced. Hermione gasped. And Ron…

Ron fainted.
