“Do you like pina coladas?”
“What?”
“Do you like pina coladas?”
“What the hell is a pina colada?”
“It’s a muggle drink. Do you like them?”
“How the hell should I know? I’ve never had one.”
“And getting caught in the rain?”
“What are you on about?”
“Don’t you like the rain?”
“Are you on something, Harry?”
“No.”
“Hey, what are you doing?! Let go of me!”
“Shut up.”
…
“Where are we?”
“Do you like making love at midnight?”
“Where the hell are we?”
“Where does it look like?”
“It looks like a mountain of sand. You know this isn’t good for my clothes, Harry. These are 100% silk.”
“Just enjoy it.”
“How can I enjoy it when—“
“Do you like making love at midnight on the dunes of the cape?”
“Are you feeling alright? I mean, first you ask me about some stupid muggle drink and then you drag me off to some godforsaken pile of sand.”
“Draco, look up.”
“What?”
“Don’t you see the stars?”
“So?”
“Can you see the stars at home?”
“Well, no…”
“Exactly. Aren’t they beautiful?”
“I suppose…”
Draco walked carefully around the top of the sand dune, peering over the edge into the blackness of the night. He could hear the ocean waves rolling against the shore softly. Harry watched him go with a small smile on his face. He sat down on top of the dune and waited for Draco to return.
He came back with a dubious expression on his face.
“Why are we here again?”
“Do you want to escape?”
“Escape from what?”
“Everything.”
Harry picked up a handful of sand and let it stream through his fingers, forming a miniature pile, mimicking the larger mountain they were sitting upon. He tilted his head upward, eyes taking in the twinkling lights in the sky.
Draco sat down carefully next to him, obviously disapproving of Harry’s choice of location. He also looked up at the millions of stars in the sky. He didn’t quite understand why Harry wanted to come here just to look at stars. You could see stars anywhere. Why did they have to go to some beach just to see?
“Do you ever feel like you’re alone?”
“I’m not alone.”
“Really?”
“Yes, really. I’m not alone.”
“How are you not alone?”
“Well, as if it isn’t obvious, I have you.”
“You can still be alone.”
“Are you alone?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because when I’m with people, I’m alone. They don’t see me. They see The-Boy-Who-Lived-To-Kill-Voldemort.”
“You’re not alone.”
“How do you know?”
“I know.”
“I’m glad you know.”
“Well, one of us should.”
Draco looked at Harry. He was staring over the curve of the dune towards the sound of the ocean. His knees were curled up to his chest as his gaze remained fixed on some point in the dark.
Draco scooted over to him and wrapped his arms around him. Harry sighed softly and leaned into him. Draco ran his hand through Harry’s messy hair thoughtfully.
“So, Draco, do you like pina coladas?”
“I thought we covered this already.”
“Yes, but I don’t think you can truly answer that until you’ve had one.”
“Where are you going to get one, Harry?”
“I’m a wizard. What kind of question is that?”
Harry took out his wand and gave it a wave. Immediately, two large glasses appeared filled with a creamy liquid. Each glass had a slice of pineapple and a tiny umbrella in it. Harry handed Draco one and clinked their glasses.
Draco eyed it carefully but took a sip. He gave it a thoughtful glance and made an agreeable face. Harry smiled at him as he took another sip.
“So?”
“It’s not bad… for a muggle drink.”
“I knew you’d like it.”
“You can’t predict everything, you know.”
“I can predict some things.”
“Sure you can.”
Harry laughed quietly and took a sip of his drink. He sighed in contentment as he looked around at his surroundings. The salty ocean air blew over the bluff, rustling the beach grass, creating the effect of thousands of whispers in the air.
The light of the stars and the moon lit up the sand in a pale white light. The ocean was blocked from sight but the waves crashing on the shore could be heard. Somewhere far away, a seagull gave an echoing cry into the night.
“Draco?”
“Yeah?”
“Will you come with me and escape?”
“I’m already here.”
“But we haven’t escaped.”
“You really want to?”
“At some point.”
“Then, I will, at some point.”
Harry smiled at Draco. He leaned down and kissed Harry lightly. Harry snuggled further into Draco, feeling very content.
“Do you like making love at midnight?”
“I think you already know the answer to that one.”
“On the dunes of the cape?”
“Well… there’s really only one way to find that out.”
Harry smiled at Draco as he kissed him again. He pulled away and gave him an innocent smile.
“Then come with me and escape.”
