He remembered a fat whale of a man whose face was permanently stained red or purple. He remembered fearing that man, fearing for his life every night.


He remembered a thin horse of a woman whose voice was shrill it broke glass. He remembered despising that woman, despising her for the starvation every morning.


He remembered an obese elephant of a boy whose lips always carried a sneer. He remembered running from that boy, running for his safety every day.


The Dursleys, he remembered they were called the Dursley family.


He remembered they called themselves normal.


He remembered when one Wednesday night, while cleaning the kitchen floor, there had been a knock on the door.


He remembered the whale man screaming at him to get the door.


He remembered two tall figures in black hoods.


He remembered greeting them politely as he had been taught.


He remembered asking if this was the residence of Harry Potter.


He remembered telling them that no one by the name of Harry Potter lived here.


He remembered the two cloaked figures being shocked.


He remembered that the whale man finally came to the door, demanding who it was at so late an hour.


He remembered being pushed to the side into the wall and then seeing the whale man freeze in terror.


He remembered the two figures asking again if this was Harry Potter's residence.
