POWER

The dark man pulled his lover back into the shadows and wrapped both arms around him to stop him from interrupting.

Before them stood something strange and slightly horrifying, as if it had come from a bad dream.

A pair of boys, who both would have previously attested to as mortal enemies, in a twist of limbs so tight you could not tell where one ended and the other began.

To call it an embrace, would never hope to explain the shear melding of not only form but also power.

You didn’t have to see the power between them, only to feel it. Though the visuals certainly helped. Pure unfettered power in varying shades of blue swirled around, and even through the seemingly unaware pair.

That was what kept him from striding forth and separating what he would have previously described as going against the laws of Nature.

But to stop and actually look at them, to see them, they were one of the most natural, dare he say, the most beautiful things he had ever seen.

“What is that?” His beautiful boy asked.

Severus knew that he was at least seeing, if not feeling the power and answered the best he could.

“A force of nature.”

Nodding his dark head, Harry seemed to except the answer.

Hidden in the shadows they watched as the taller boy lifted his head, leaning back into the faint moonlight, the smaller, paler boy with a smile. A smile that Severus had never seen on him before, but one he had always dreamed of seeing.

The smile of a happy man, a free man.

For all of his experiences, for all of his considerable knowledge, Severus was not prepared when the taller boy opened his eyes.

Before he would have best described them as ‘pale blue’, not noticeable enough to warrant a stronger description or classification of color.

Now they were electric.

A whirlwind of colors from palest lightening edged blue to deepest sapphire, a swirling expanse that covered not only the iris but also the pupil and what would normally be the whites as well.

Either he or Harry must have made some noise because almost as one the pair in front of them turned their heads to look in their direction.

“What is it?” The taller boy asked, leaning his red head on his smaller companion.

Once again Severus was not prepared.

When the smaller boy had opened his eyes, instead of the soft grayish blue of before, they were now a bright liquid silver color. The irises were larger with dark rings, to accommodate the nearly reptilian pupils.

A gasp had him tightening his arms.

“Dragon’s eyes!” Came the soft, reverent whisper from his arms.

“It is nothing to worry about my own, just a dark little changeling and a storm crow. They mean us no harm.” Said the smaller figure, nuzzling under the other’s chin, drawing his attention back to him, though they both still had their heads turned towards the shadows.

Severus stopped and considered the situation.

Before him stood two figures that were more powerful than he had ever thought possible.

One obviously was drawing forth the power, weaving it around him in a spiraling, twisting wave. The other had a quiet calm he had only seen once before, when meeting The Master of Potions and Alchemy, a being centuries old. He was the one keeping the raw power from exploding outward.

Both had inhuman eyes.

He was smart enough to know that he had stumbled upon something rare and wondrous, and that must be kept secret at all costs.

“Let’s go love.” Looking down he met eyes of the purest green, the eyes of his salvation.

Eyes that looked as old as the silver ones gleaming out in the moonlight.

“Let’s.” As one they turned and walked back towards the castle, leaving the pair where they were.

Neither saw the pair behind them smiling as they watched them walk away hand in hand.
