Absolution
Harry hears Remus at night.
He hears the crying, the heart wrenching sobs, the whispered words of denial.
He hears the moans, the grunts, the breathy sounds that vaguely resemble a name, but Harry doesn’t want to think about that, because he’s already killed the man’s best friend, and he didn’t need to know that he may have killed his lover as well.
He hears the talking, maybe to a painting, maybe to himself.
He hears the pain, and the loneliness.
And he understands. Oh, he understands so well, because he feels it too.
So Harry bravely goes into Remus’s room one night when he hears the sounds again.
And Harry sinks to his knees, and begs Remus to forgive him.
To fogive him, because he heard the name on his lips when he came.
To forgive him, because everyone else has, but he’s never asked for it.
To forgive him, because he is truly sorry, and he love Sirius too, and he needs to hear that it is okay to grieve, that it is okay to move on.
And Remus smiles softly, and pets his hair, because Harry was never good with words, and doesn’t ask with them.
He asks with suction, with tongue play, with a tear streaked face bobbing up and down in the lap of his Godfather’s lover.
He asks with helpless determination.
He asks with everything he has.
And Remus forgives him.
And through Remus, Harry feels as though Sirius has forgiven him too.
