Unexpected
Sirius black stared at the cold grey walls that surrounded him with fathomless eyes. On the outside, he looked dead more or less. His skin was pale, his eyes were drained of any life they used to hold, his raven black hair, once silky and always laying perfectly, was no in need of some serious detangler, not to mention shampoo and a comb. On the inside, he was screaming with rage and pain and loss.
He leaned against dirty walls, sitting on an even dirtier floor. ‘It was Peter,’ was all that he could think.
‘All this time, it was Peter. Our best friend. Peter betrayed us. He took everything from James. His life, his love…his only son. A son that would have to face the world without a mother or a father.’
‘He took my life.’ Sirius thought resentfully; his life had crashed and landed him in this God forsaken hell hole. ‘It would be years if he ever got to see her again. Her. His Hogwarts sweetheart. She had stuck with him through everything he had done, no matter how the cards unfolded.’
“Sirius, what did you do!??”
“I didn’t do anything!”
“There’s smoke coming from Professor McGonagall’s office!!”
“Really? She best look into that before it gets out of han—”
“Sirius!”
The memory forced a quiet chuckle. It would be years if he ever got to hear her voice again, touch her skin, smell her hair, or hold her. Sirius closed his eyes; it seemed he had lost everything, all so fast. It had been so horrible to see her when she found out. She couldn’t even look at him. The disappointment and heartbreak that Sirius knew she was feeling, had been nearly unbearable for Sirius.
And Remus…even Remus, how could Sirius have ever thought he, of all people had been a spy? The anger that radiated from him, when Sirius begged him to understand, Sirius had never seen Remus like that, and wasn’t about to forget it anytime soon.
Voices sounded from a few cells down, another fight perhaps. It’s true what they say, about there being justice in prison. Rapists, murderers, wizards who always seemed to have the imperious or the cruciatus curse on the tip of their tongue all seemed to get their just retribution in such a place.
Just in the few weeks he’d been in here, he had witnessed so many muggle brawls, even finished a couple when a prisoner had provoked him.
A loud swift clang echoed through his cell, hurting his ears. “You there, wake up!” One of the guards was banging on the bars. Sirius groaned and looked over, but his jaw dropped when he saw who was staring back at him.
