\"All the Love in the World...\"
The sun was setting on a warm August evening as Hermione Granger sat on a beautiful lakeshore. She dipped her toes dejectedly in the water and peered at her reflection. She was on holiday with her best friends Harry and Ron. Ron\'s parents had managed to scrape together enough money to rent a secluded cabin in Scotland for a few weeks to spend time with Ron\'s brother and his new wife, Bill and Fleur. Both Ron and Hermione feared this would be the last time they would spend with Harry before he began his quest against Voldemort. Currently, Ron and Harry were playing a bastardized game of Quidditch before the sun set with Ginny.
Hermione couldn\'t be around anyone just now. Shortly around the close of the awful term, her parents had been killed in a car accident while on vacation to Switzerland. She had immediately been taken in by the Weasleys after the funeral. Molly and Arthur were doting sorts, but she missed her parents terribly. She had regrets about how little time she had spent with them before they died.
She was ruminating over these facts when she heard footsteps behind her. Ron sat down next to her. Things had been...awkward between them since the beginning of vacation. Something neither one could put their finger on.
\"We missed you for Quidditch\" Ron said, \"It was actually a good game.\"
Hermione managed a laugh, \"If it was good, then it was better I wasn\'t there. I\'ve never got the hang of it.\"
Ron asked \"You\'ve been down here most of the day, Mum is going to be offended if you skip dinner.\"
Hermione began, \"Your mum...\" she wasn\'t able to speak anymore. She had been trying to hold back tears all day, but now she couldn\'t help it.
\"Oh, hey..\" Ron said, a helpless feeling was sinking in him.
\"\'s okay,\" Hermione sniffed, \"It\'s just that today would have been my Mum\'s birthday. I miss them.\"
Ron put his arm around her shoulder. \"I know you miss them... but you\'ve got more family now than you could ever handle...we\'re Weasleys, remember?\"
\"All of you have been amazing about this...\" she said
\"We think you\'re amazing, Hermione...I..think..\" Ron trailed off. He brushed an errant tear away from her face and cupped her chin in his hand. Without thinking he leaned in and kissed her.
\"Don\'t you get it, Hermione\" he whispered in her ear, \"I love you. I\'ve always loved you. We belong together.\"
Hermione leaned in against him, her bare arm brushing against his chest. He was having trouble with simple breathing right now.
\"Yes,\" was all Hermione whispered back.
MEANWHILE:
Ginny and Harry had left the Quidditch pitch. They sat on the front steps of the house.
It was an old argument.
\"No.\" Harry said, \"We\'ve been over this, Ginny. I can\'t let you come with me. Not this time. Everyone I love dies, and I don\'t want you to be next.\"
\"It\'s going to take more than Voldemort to change how I feel about you Harry.\" Ginny said, with all the conviction a teenager could muster.
Harry smiled, \"That may be true. But I have to do this myself. I can\'t lose you.\"
\"Then promise you\'ll come back to me, Harry. Promise!\"
Harry pulled Ginny close and kissed her longingly.
He, too, whispered, \"Yes.\"
EVEN LATER STILL:
It was well after midnight, but Harry couldn\'t sleep. He had a horrible feeling something wasn\'t right. He\'d have to do something, and soon. He couldn\'t wait much longer to find the Horcruxes Professor Dumbledore had told him about. Harry had to kill Voldemort, or Dumbledore would have died in vain.
He put on his glasses, and tiptoed past Ron sleeping in the next bed. (He had to smile about Ron and Hermione\'s flushed appearances at dinner that night. He hoped they had realized what he had seen as obvious.)The house was quiet, even more so since Arthur had gone to London this week on secret Ministry work.
He wanted to see Ginny one last time before he left.
Ginny was sleeping on a sofabed on the sun porch, where it was cooler. Hermione had went down to the lake to \"think\" about things, so Ginny had fallen asleep alone.
Harry put his glasses on the table next to the sofa, and slipped under the sheet next to Ginny. She was curled on her side, her red hair pulled back in an elastic band. Harry propped himself up and simply watched her sleep. He couldn\'t bear the thought of leaving her. He curled around her, putting his arms against her middle. She twiched in her sleep.
What Ginny had never told anyone about was her recurrent nightmares about her encounter with Tom Riddle durning her first year at Hogwarts. She began crying out in her sleep.
\"Ginny?\" Harry asked in alarm, \"Gin--wake up...it\'s all right.\"
She awoke with a start, too alarmed to question why Harry was in bed next to her. She turned over so that they were face to face. Cold sweat mixed with the tears on her face.
\"Harry...it was awful\" Ginny began, \"It was Riddle all over again.\"
\"Shh...it was only a dream--Everythings OK now.\"
Harry held her tightly, and Ginny nuzzled her lips against his neck. His weak spot.
\"Gin..\" Harry started, \"oh..\"
She nuzzled him again. \"Take me away from all this, Harry...just this once.\" Harry groaned and kissed her over and over, each kiss deeper than the last. His hands began roaming underneath the thin Tshirt Ginny was wearing.
They had never been this far before.
\"Ginny,\" Harry whispered seriously,\" Are you sure about this?\"
\"I\'ve never been more sure.\"
Clumsily, they fumbled for each other, and tried to pull what few clothes they had off. Neither of them noticed the green streaks in the sky.
They were almost undressed when searing pain shot through Harry\'s scar. In too much pain, Harry pulled away from Ginny.
\"Harry!\" Ginny cried in alarm
Harry sat up and gasped in pain, his earlier desire forgotten. He got out of the bed and put his glasses on.
\"I\'m sorry, love...\" he began
\"That\'s all right, Harry, but what\'s wrong?\"
\"Voldemort.\" he said simply
They were interrupted by Hermione clattering up from the lake. She was too alarmed to take in the pair\'s dissheveled look.
\"Did you see!\" she sputtered. Ron came running in at the same time.
In all seriousness, he said, \"Harry, I\'m going to ignore what you were doing with my baby sister. We have much bigger problems..the Dark Mark...\"
In annoyance, Harry said \"I realized that. My scar was hurting. Your sister\'s virtue is intact.\"
The discussion was interrupted by the sound of an owl upstairs at Molly\'s window. Seconds later, Molly began screaming uncontrollably.
\"Mum!\" Ginny cried. She bolted out of the bed, wrapping the sheet around her, and ran upstairs.
\"What could this possibly be about?\" Hermione asked.
Ginny came back downstairs, parchment cluched in her hand. \"Ron!\" She screamed, \"Oh, God, Ron! Dad\'s dead!\"
Ron went pale, \"You can\'t be serious Gin.\" He took the parchment from her and scanned it.
All he could choke out was, \"My God...Draco Malfoy killed our dad...\"
