Time had passed so solemly. Draco Malfoy couldn't believe it. His mother was dead. His attempt at Dumbledore's life had failed, now he was alone, with no one to be with him as he stood in the astronomy tower. Thousands of things he could've done went through his mind. His fists were clinched, bitter tears splashed unwanted on a stressed and worn face. He knew he had nothing left to live for, he was no Harry Potter, he couldn't face the dark lord and win. His pity mixed with anger and desperate hatred peaked as a small animal approached his side nearly undetected were it not for the smell of wet fur mixed with mud.
"Hey Joshua." Draco sniffed wiping his cheeks and evening his tense breath. He bent down and picked up the animal like a father would a small child. Joshua was a strange creature, a wolflike boy really. Draco had thought this might be the work of Greyback, but it seemed too natural. He had found the wolf boy while wondering the woods and took an intrest in him when he caught the small beast tailing him back to the slytherin common room a few years ago. "I don't have any food tonight." Joshua seemed to put that thought away as he licked Draco's face. Draco didn't break a smile.
"Kill Her!" Harry snapped out of a day dream violently. He'd seen voldemort killing a woman. He couldn't tell who she was he knew she was now dead, and also, that the Dark Lord had made it so Harry would see it. This made Harry uneasy, ever since he was set up to go to the ministry, he'd been weary of any possible dream state. Terrified of his own dreams, unsure if he would be used again.
"Harry, what's wrong?" Harry didn't answer Hermione right away he was still in alot of shock. Ron put his hand on Harry's shoulder, which then shivered. "I saw him Killing someone." Harry whispered. He didn't want this getting out. "Are you sure?" "Ron, don't be an idiot, look at him, that's a sure look to me." Harry was tense, he was now sweating, it was dinner time so most everyone was eating and didn't see his distress. "I don't like this you guys, he wanted me to see that." Harry's expression turned angry. "I'd like to know why."
He did want to know why. It wasn't like the Dark Lord to risk something, or just casually enter Harry's mind. He still didn't know the woman. Despite trying to rewind his thoughts to the moment just before death, but it was too hard to tell. Harry knew bitterly when he did figure it out, that the revelation would be devestating.
Even though he knew he'd be alone, he wasn't at all prepared for it. Draco Malfoy had always relied on others to get where he'd been. He lacked confidence, his jealousy of Harry Potter stemmed from him feeling he never measured up. He felt overwhelmed and easily outmatched. He thought it was fitting now that it seemed he was faced with no choice but to join Dumbledore's crew, and get revenge.
It was pitch dark now, and Draco new he should go home. "Go to Ferenzy Joshua." He placed the small animal gently on the ground and without a second look, the small creature went dowm the path to find the centaur. He walked back to the sytherin rooms. 'Tomorrow' he thought. He'd go and throw himself on the mercy of his enemies, either way, he'd face their wrath, better soon, than too late.
His mind was so full it wasn't until he lay in bed that his mother's death hit him. He shook silently as vengence mixed with saddness and alone struck his cheeks. No one could his soft cries of lonliness. Though there was one other boy who could know exactly how this felt that boy who lived knew all to well the Loneliness of having no one.
Everyone was quieter now, the war had not openly been declared yet. Alot of people guessed Lord Voldimort was just bidding his time building more of his forces. The lightside seemed to fail at every turn and without a leader they had no one to guide them. Everyone thought Rufus that new minister of magic would be able to lead them, but he proved quickily to be inaffective. His headstrong attitude had caused the deaths of many Aurrors and left the Order of the phoenix without it's acting leader Arthur Weasely.
Harry was bitter about this, he knew that if he didn't hurry, there might be no one left to save. He didn't leave for his quest just yet. He needed some information from a certain slytherin. He didn't know if Malfoy would know about Hoarcruxes, but he figured he might as well give it a shot, if he didn't know that, Harry had some buttons to push anyway to see if he could find a bit of anything to help in the coming journey.
Draco stood outside on quidittch pitch, he was trying to discover the courage to go and talk to someone, anyone, but he couldn't. He was ashamed, he'd seen Harry be brave in the face of danger many times and he, Draco Malfoy couldn't do the simplest of tasks, swallow his pride.
"If only you were here." He said to himself bitterly. "I can't, I couldn't even stand up for you." It was clear in his head, he watched it several times over the last few weeks. DumbleDore's death, something he might have prevented if he'd been smart. "You are right about one thing, I'm no killer." "I'm not much else either." He was devistated, he realized that even if he joined up, Dumbledore wouldn't be there and he would never truly be forgiven for the headmaster's death.
He stared at the ground angrily, unaware that someone had come out here to see him. Harry stayed in the shadows and listened. "Why did you even die?" Draco was losing his composure now. Tears formed in his eyes. "I don't know what to do." "You saved me, but I am not worth the trouble, I'm not as good as Harry. I'm not what you seemed to think I was."
Harry stood in shocked silence. He had seen this side of Draco before, pity for his enemy swelled. He saw in the bathroom the more honest side of Draco and his anger and bitterness, gone with tears he seemed to be shedding in sympathy.
"I wish you could still be here instead of me." Draco said as he started to slump to his knees, you could have stopped him." Draco placed his face in his hands in an attempt to get a grip. It wasn't until he heard a sharp growl and the sharp supprised breath of someone that his head snapped up and spun around to find Joshua with a set of robes in his mouth and the shocked face of one Harry Potter.
"Um, hello there Malfoy." Harry said still staring at the wolf creature attached to his robes. Draco wiped his eyes a bit. "Joshua!" He snapped the creature went over to where his master was and climbed up and slung himself over the boy's shoulder. "You have a handy pet there." Harry said. A longer silence than the whole of the universe followed them.
