“Ready to go?” Ron asked Harry impatiently.
“Yeah, pass me my broom.” Harry replied.
Ron strode across the room to the window. He picked up Harry’s Firebolt and took it over to im. Ron threw himself on the bed and sighed.
“Come on mate…were gonna be late!” Ron wined.
“Alright! I’m ready!” Harry sighed.
“Finally!” Ron exclaimed, getting up and following Harry downstairs.
“You’re off are you?” Vernon Dursley seethed.
“Well, yeah. I don’t have to stay here anymore…I’m of age, I can leave whenever I want.” Harry replied modestly.
“Be careful…” Petunia said, letting the words pass out of her lips without permission.
Harry nodded and walked to the door where Dudley was standing. Harry secretly passed Dudley the address of The Burrow. Harry winked and Dudley smiled. Dudley and Harry had gotten close and Dudley was sad to see Harry leave. But Harry promised that he would meet up with Dudley every now and then to check in with him. Of course, Vernon and Petunia didn’t know.
“Bye everyone!” Harry said happily.
“Ahhhhh! Smell that Dursley free air Ron? It’s just…lovely!” Harry sighed cheerfully.
Ron laughed, “Yeah. Alright, let’s head out then shall we?” Ron said, getting ready to Apparate.
He took stance, his left foot slightly bent in, his right leg behind him and bent. Harry laughed at Ron.
“You look like an idiot!” Harry joked.
“Hey…the only way to stay safe is to do it this way.” Ron said. “Ready?” he asked.
“Uh huh…” Harry said, holding is trunk and broom, just standing normally.
With a sudden pop, they disappeared. A moment later, they arrived at the Burrow. Ron and Harry ran upstairs and grabbed Ron’s belongings. Ron took stance again and once again, Harry laughed, Ron scowled and they apparated out to The Leaky Cauldron.
They looked around the pub. They thought they seen Hermione but didn’t look twice. They headed over to the bar where Tom was cleaning glasses.
“Hey boys. Your room’s ready. Number 315. here’s the key and Miss Granger has already been up and put away her things.” Tom said, handing over the key to Harry.
“Oh. Is Hermione still here?” Ron asked hopefully.
“Yeah…she’s down in Diagon Alley.” Tom replied, going out the back.
“Let’s go find her.” Harry suggested.
Ron shrugged, “Let’s get food too. I’m starved.” Ron added.
“You’re always hungry.” Harry muttered as they left the pub and out into the small alley.
Harry tapped the bricks. A second later, they shifted and opened up. The boys entered Diagon Alley. They walked past Twilfitt and Tattings and seen Hermione walking down the opposite way.
“There’s Hermione.” Harry said.
“Let’s just follow her…maybe she’s buying you something for your birthday…” Ron said smirking.
“Okay.” Harry agreed as they two ran after her, making sure they kept out of sight.
Hermione pulled her cloak hood over her head so you couldn’t see her face. Ron and Harry made quizzical looks and shrugged. She dodged a few people then stopped at the entrance to a place where Hermione shouldn’t be. Harry and Ron stood behind the wall and peeked around.
“What she doing here?” Ron whispered.
“I dunno…but we’re about to find out.” Harry replied, frowning.
