Summary: Harry receives a shocking letter from his mother about his lineage on his seventeenth birthday. His whole world changes as a result.
Spoilers: Set after HBP
Chapter 1
Harry sat in the darkness of his room, counting down the minutes to his seventeenth birthday. Godric’s Hollow was still mostly destroyed, but he had managed to salvage two bedrooms, a bathroom, and the kitchen enough to be usable. Looking at the clock, Harry tensed as the numbers changed to 12:00. After the events of his last year of school, he wasn’t expecting any gifts. He’d practically hidden from everyone except Ron and Hermione, and Ron was currently staying with his parents at the Burrow. While Hermione was sleeping in the other room, Harry had no intentions of waking her for this occasion.
An owl suddenly tapped his bedroom window. Cautiously opening the window and retrieving the letter tied to the bird’s foot, Harry stared at the parchment in confusion. The writing on the outside was an unfamiliar scrawl, and Harry was hesitant to open it. Grabbing his wand off his nightstand, Harry cast several spell detection charms over the parchment, assuring himself that it wasn’t a portkey in disguise. He slowly unwrapped the parchment, which turned out to be a letter. Scanning to the end, Harry gasped in shock when he saw the name, Lily Evans Potter, at the bottom.
‘Dear Harry,
If you are reading this letter, it means that your father and I aren’t alive to tell you this in person. For that, I am truly sorry. What I have to tell you may come as a shock, most definitely come as a shock. Well, here goes. James Potter is not your biological father. He did legally adopt you, though, so you are truly a Potter.
I know you have questions, and I’ll endeavor to answer to them to the best of my abilities. Your true father is Tom Riddle aka Lord Voldemort. How did that happen, you ask? Well, James and I were captured by Death Eaters shortly after we became Aurors. We were kept in separate cells, and I was visited by Riddle. He fed me an aphrodisiac and another potion I didn’t know and, well I’m sure you can imagine what happened next. It shouldn’t have been possible because elves are only capable of having children with their mates, but Voldemort had discovered a potion specifically designed for elves and fae that tricked the body into believing their partner was their mate. Thus you were conceived. We were rescued the very next day, and I confessed to James exactly what happened. I knew I had conceived the very moment it happened, and James agreed to claim you as his own using a blood ritual. This ritual caused you to take in some of his DNA, so those are your true looks.
Next thing to discuss. I was not a muggleborn witch. I was adopted at birth, and later discovered my true heritage. My mother and father were elves, thus giving you an elfin inheritance. I was born with elfin features but a permanent glamour was cast on me at birth to make me look human. It was only removed after I graduated from Hogwarts, and only then in the privacy of my own home with James. My parents were forced to give me up because the elves were at war with the fae, and unfortunately, the fae were winning.
Harry, dearest, I know that you are the only one who can defeat Voldemort, but you had to know the truth. He may be the one who sired you, but James Potter is the one who raised and loved you, no matter how short a time it was. I know that you will do what is right, and just know that you still have a family out there. I was never able to find my birth parents, but you may have better luck. Their names are Aracely and Urian Evenstar.
James had several vampires in his lineage, so you may inherit some of those traits due to the blood ritual he used to adopt you. We don’t know for sure if that will happen, but it is a possibility. If you do receive that inheritance, you should only require blood from your mate. Which reminds me, as an elf, you will have a mate. You will be able to sense the identity of this person in two ways. First of all, you’ll identify your mate by scent. Then a tattoo will appear on both of you, starting the initial bond. Sex, of course, cements the bond.
Good luck, Harry, and just remember that I love you always.
Lily Potter’
Harry sat stunned after reading the revelations detailed in this letter. His whole world had just been tilted off its axis, and he wasn’t sure what to do now. He couldn’t believe that Voldemort was his real father. That meant that he’d been born with his Parseltongue ability instead of it being transferred to him when Voldemort had tried to kill him. That also meant that he’d truly belonged in Slytherin. But if that were true, how had he managed to pull the sword of Gryffindor out of the hat?
Harry glanced at the clock once more and saw that it was now 12:45. His mother had written that he would come into his elfin inheritance, but he hadn’t seen any indication of that. ‘Oh well,’ he thought wearily. ‘I’m going to sleep. I’ll deal with this tomorrow.’ Harry climbed under the covers of his bed and fell asleep almost instantly.
At half past two, Harry’s body suddenly levitated into the air, blankets sliding off his body and falling to the bed. Harry’s body grew three inches, lengthening his body to an impressive 6 feet even. His hair also grew several inches, ending at the middle of his back and becoming streaked with silver with overall red highlights. His eyes healed completely, becoming even stronger than 20/20 vision. Harry’s ears elongated into delicate points, and his canine teeth lengthened into small fangs. Last of all, black leathery wings unfurled from his back briefly, before disappearing in a flash, leaving a small raven tattoo with one green feather and one blue father clutched in its talons between his shoulder blades.
Harry floated gently back to the bed, never waking through the entire ordeal. He slept deeply well into the morning, only waking when Hermione yelled through the door. Harry sat up groggily and trudge to the bathroom to shower. He never once glanced in the mirror, and didn’t notice that he saw perfectly well without his glasses. After his shower, he dressed hurriedly and rushed downstairs to the kitchen.
“Harry!” cried Hermione, glimpsing Harry’s changed appearance for the first time.
Harry immediately went into defense mode, grabbing his wand and searching frantically for the danger. When he saw nothing trying to harm him, he relaxed slowly and looked perplexed at Hermione. “What is it, Hermione?”
“What happened to you?” she shrieked, grabbing his arm and pulling him back upstairs. She marched him into the bathroom and pushed him in front of the mirror.
Harry gasped when he saw his new features. Biting his lower lip nervously, he flinched slightly when his new fangs pierced his lip and drew blood. “Mother was right,” he said quietly.
“What do you mean ‘mother was right’? What are you talking about, Harry?” Hermione demanded. Harry had always been cute in her opinion, but now he was simply gorgeous.
“I got a letter from mother last night. I guess it was spelled to deliver on my seventeenth birthday if she died before then. In the letter, my mother told me that she was adopted, and that she was really an elf. She also told me that James Potter was not my real father, but he adopted me using a blood ritual. Oh, and here’s the real shocker. My biological father is none other than Tom Marvolo Riddle, Lord Voldemort, the very man who has been trying to kill me these last seven years,” said Harry, ending on a bitter note.
“What?” asked Hermione incredulously. “Your father is Voldemort? How is that possible? Everything that I’ve ever read about elves states that they are only capable on conceiving with their mates. Was Voldemort your mother’s true mate?”
“No,” said Harry emphatically. “He forced her to drink a potion that tricks the body into believing that their partner is their mate, making my conception possible. So he knew that I was his son all along, and he still tried to kill me.”
“Well, Harry, he’s evil,” said Hermione reasonably. “You can’t expect family to matter when someone is as evil as he is.”
“Oh, I know that well enough,” said Harry quickly. “He killed his father and grandparents, too. Why should I be any different?”
“Exactly,” said Hermione. She finally noticed the flash of fangs when Harry smiled at her. “Uh, Harry? Your mother was an elf, so where did you get the fangs?”
“I got those from my adoptive father. He had several vampires in his lineage, and when he used the blood ritual to adopt me, he passed the inheritance on to me,” said Harry.
“So you’re a vampiric elf,” said Hermione slowly. “Only you, Harry.”
“Ha ha, Hermione. You’re so bloody funny,” said Harry sarcastically. They finally made their way back to the kitchen, and Harry immediately snagged a piece of bacon that Hermione had cooked. “I wonder when Ron’s coming back?”
“Not for another week,” said Hermione. “And don’t forget that I’ll be leaving tomorrow to visit my parents for three days.”
“Yeah, yeah, I remember. Leaving me alone to waste away,” said Harry mournfully, placing the back of his hand to his forehead for added affect.
“You poor baby,” said Hermione teasingly, laughing at Harry’s antics. Harry was usually far too serious and these rare moments of laughter were welcome sights. “I’m sure you’ll survive three days without me.”
“I’ll try,” said Harry, “but you never know what I’ll get into without supervision.”

“Luciusss, you have failed me for the lassst time,” hissed Voldemort angrily. “McNair, bring her in.”
Lucius turned to see whom McNair was dragging in the door. He froze completely when he recognised his wife. She was supposed to be safe at home with Draco. “My Lord, I am very sorry for failing you. Please punish me, not her,” he pleaded unabashedly.
“Luciusss, I am punissshing you,” hissed Voldemort. He turned to McNair. “You may begin.”
McNair ripped off Narcissa’s dress, slapping her harshly when she fought. Once she was completely nude, he raised his wand and bound her arms to the pole above her head. Reaching down to his pants, he unzipped his pants and pulled out his shaft. McNair got even more excited at the terror on Narcissa’s face and the distant pleas to stop coming from Lucius. Smirking evilly, he thrust brutally into her body, making her scream in agony as her passage tore from the savage entry.
By the time McNair was done, Narcissa just lay limply, staring into the air blankly. McNair slowly withdrew his bloodied shaft from the broken body and stepped back, awaiting further orders from his lord.
Voldemort smirked evilly at Lucius and gestured for the next person to proceed. Lucius was forced to watch as his wife was raped by fifteen men before Voldemort finally killed her with the killing curse. Just to torment Lucius, he then incinerated her body, leaving nothing but a tiny pile of ashes. “Luciusss, it isss your turn now,” hissed Voldemort smugly. “You will be my example to all about what happensss to thossse who fail me.”
Lucius tensed when McNair grabbed his arm and started to drag him to the same place McNair had violated Narcissa. Drawing on a strength he’d never know, Lucius ripped free of McNair’s grip and grabbed the unsuspecting man around the neck. He snapped the man’s neck and grinned viciously as McNair’s body fell lifelessly to the floor. He quickly snatched up McNair’s wand, casting several hexes and curses at the other Death Eaters. Then revealing something he’d kept secret from even his wife and son, Lucius created a portal and jumped in before anyone could touch him.
Lucius tumbled out of the portal into a quiet living room. A second later, he heard footsteps rapidly descending the stairs. He looked up and collapsed in relief when he saw Severus and Draco.
“Lucius, what the hell happened to you?” asked Severus worriedly, helping Lucius to his feet. “I thought you had a meeting with the Dark Lord tonight. Draco showed up two hours ago because his mother sent him away.”
“I did,” said Lucius wearily. “He decided that I had failed him too many times and could be used as an example. The only problem is that it didn’t affect just me. I’m just glad Draco got away.”
“What do you mean ‘got away’?” asked Draco fearfully. He had a very bad feeling about what his father was going to say. “Where’s mother? What happened to her?”
Lucius ducked his head guiltily at the question. “The Dark Lord decided to punish me by hurting her. He had her raped by fifteen men before he finally killed her, and there was nothing I could do. He was going to do the same to me, but I revealed my true heritage and opened a portal here.” He would have to grieve for his friend after the Dark Lord was truly gone.
“I think he may have suspected something about your heritage, Lucius,” said Severus quietly. At Lucius’ questioning look, he continued. “Well, you remember what he did to Lily. Didn’t you ever wonder why he never questioned why I already had some of that potion made? I think he knew that I had discovered the potion to help you, but he didn’t know what your heritage was exactly. He probably thought you were veela.”
“Well, now he knows the truth,” said Lucius dully. “It doesn’t matter, though. Without a mate, my magic will never reach its full potential.”
“You do realise that Draco will be in danger now, right?” asked Severus, catching said blonde’s attention.
“Why will I be in danger? The only reason I obeyed that evil bastard in the first place is because he threatened to kill my mother. Now that he’s done that, I have no reason to listen to him,” said Draco vehemently, holding his tears at bay until he could get to the privacy of his room.
“Draco, you came into your fae inheritance on your seventeenth birthday. Do you really think that now that he’s discovered Lucius’ true heritage, and thus yours, that he will leave you alone? Fae are very powerful and to have one in his army would make him nearly unstoppable,” said Severus.
“Draco, I never wanted to be a Death Eater, but as you probably have guessed, I didn’t have much of a choice. My father threatened to kill my mother if I didn’t join. What he didn’t know was that my mother was fae, and that I had received my fae inheritance when I turned seventeen. So, I made sure never to reveal that secret to either my father or the Dark Lord,” said Lucius solemnly.
“And since you came into the fae inheritance,” said Severus, addressing Draco, “you need to find your mate as soon as possible. Without your mate, your fae powers will never grow.”
“And how do I know if I’ve found my mate?” asked Draco quietly.
“Have you met anyone that just draws your attention constantly? Or smelled someone that smells just heavenly?” asked Lucius. Draco nodded after the first question but shook his head negatively on the second. “You probably have already met your mate, but they may not have reached full maturity yet. That only happens at the age of seventeen. Now continuing with how to find said mate. The fae have the ability to cast glamours that are so strong, they can’t be broken by anyone but the person who cast it. Your mate will be able to see through even your strongest glamour.”
“How do you cast a fae glamour? I left school before I came into my inheritance, and we’ve been pretty much secluded here, so I haven’t needed one,” said Draco.
“It comes naturally, Draco. Just think about what you want to look like, and will it to happen,” said Lucius. “Try it.”
Draco thought about the person that had always attracted his attention. Picturing the vivid green eyes, scarred forehead, and messy black hair, Draco barely heard the gasps from the other occupants of the room. “Did it work?”
“You fixated on Harry Potter?” asked Severus incredulously.
“He just turned seventeen, didn’t he?” asked Lucius quietly. He couldn’t really blame Draco for his fixation because Lucius suffered from the same problem himself. He’d known after that fiasco at the Ministry that Harry was going to be very powerful. Even at the age of fifteen, he’d managed to hold off fully-grown wizards. “Severus, how did the Dark Lord discover Lily’s heritage?”
“Peter Pettigrew, how else?” said Severus. “Why?”
“You said he used the same potion that I used with Narcissa on her. Wouldn’t Harry be his son?” asked Lucius musingly.
“I thought so, but he looks just like James. I figured it hadn’t worked, or she may have already been pregnant when it happened,” said Severus.
“What if it did work?” asked Lucius excitedly. This could open up a whole new set of opportunities.
“It wouldn’t matter,” said Severus firmly. “The Dark Lord is not exactly keen on family relations, if you’ll remember.”
“I’m not talking about that,” said Lucius. “If he were really the Dark Lord’s son, he would have access to all Riddle wards and vaults. We could ambush the Dark Lord and destroy him.”
“We still have to find all the horcruxes, or ambushing him will be useless,” said Severus.
“Well, I suggest an alliance with Potter,” said Lucius. “I would imagine he’s already working on that particular problem. Isn’t that what you told me?”
“Yes, I did, but I don’t think that will work, Lucius,” said Severus.
“Why not?” asked Lucius.
“Because Severus killed Dumbledore in front of him,” said Draco quietly. “Potter thinks Sev’s a traitor and will probably try to kill him on sight. I have the same problem because I tried to kill Dumbledore to save mother.”
“We’ll just have to convince him otherwise,” said Lucius simply. “Do we even know where he is?”
“I know someone who probably does,” said Draco, thinking of Weasley. “I doubt he’d be willing to tell us, though.”
“We’ll find a way, Draco,” said Lucius firmly. “Now, I am going to bed. I’ve had a rough night. I’ll see you two in the morning.”
“I’m going to bed, too. Goodnight, father,” said Draco, going to his room and allowing the tears to finally fall. Behind the grief, he could feel a burning rage aimed at the Dark Lord for killing his beloved mother. ‘He will pay for this,’ he thought viciously, dashing his tears away angrily and burying his grief until later. He finally fell asleep, thinking of ways to destroy his mother’s murderer in as painful a way as possible.
Lucius nodded to Severus and stumbled up the stairs to the guest room. He collapsed onto the bed and fell instantly asleep. He tossed and turned most of the night, reliving his wife’s last moments in his dreams. He finally fell into a deep sleep, unhampered by nightmares, a couple of hours before dawn.
