THE JOURNEY TO PLATFORM 9 3/4
The Hogwarts Express journeyed through a wide valley from a distance they
could see cows grazing or lying down for the afternoon. It had just been two
hours ago that Harry, Ron, Hermione and the rest of Hogwarts were found at
the school’s grounds to pay their last respects to the greatest wizard of all time,
Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore. Harry had never seen such and
assembly of the magical community before, even the merpeople and the proud
centaurs paid homage in their own manner.
It had been such a terrible loss… and such an unspeakable death… Harry thought.
He could still remember the Headlines of the Prophet: “Albus Dumbledore murdered
by Death Eaters”, under this headline was an article occupying a good two pages…
there were no pictures… no snide remarks, almost as if the prophet was saying its
apology for the years of insult to the headmaster by decently writing the “great loss”
of the whole wizarding community and the achievements that this great man has
attained… The plasticity clearly showing…
Harry’s thoughts would never leave the scene he saw that night… He remembered
everything, in full detail like his brain was constantly playing a repeating film… it
haunted him even in his dreams… he couldn’t think of anything else often times
(like now) he would gaze off into space and once again reminisce the night’s
events.
He remembered it all, from when he was stunned by the headmaster, how Malfoy
had burst through the door raving like a maniac on his feat of disarming the
weakened wizard, how Dumbledore talked to Malfoy, trying to convince him that he
could still switch sides… convincing him that he was no murderer, how Malfoy seemed
for a moment to submit to the headmaster, how the Death Eaters arrived and how
Snape emotionlessly murdered the man that trusted him for all those years…
Snape… He thought. He felt anger pulsating through his veins… this happened all the
time now… just a mention of Snape’s name and hot bubbling rage quickly ran throughout
his body enveloping him like a mass made of fire constantly growing and getting
stronger the more he though of it, a flaming desire to track the potions master down
and cast a Crucio on him until he would die of pain…
That would serve him right… Harry thought viciously his lips forming into a small smile
as his eyes still gazed out the window.
“Harry? You want something?” Ron asked as he tapped Harry on the shoulder.
The lunch trolley was at their door, the old lady still smiling but sadness clearly
etched on the swollen eyes Harry assumed was from crying.
“No, no you go ahead I’m fine…” Harry replied.
“You haven’t eaten anything since we left you know,” Ron said. “Ahhh… never mind,
Mum’s gonna stuff some food in you when we arrive home anyway.” He finished with
a smile.
“That’s all ma’am thank you.” Hermione said as she paid the food from the trolley.
She then turned to Harry and asked “Er… Harry you are going back to the Dursleys
aren’t you?”
“Maybe… I’m not sure.” He replied holding up a hand to decline Ron’s offer of
Chocolate frogs.
Harry wasn’t sure at all. He remembered Dumbledore’s visit at Privet Drive when he
came to fetch Harry. Dumbledore pretty much explained to the Dursely’s that Harry
only needed to go back there one year more so that at the very least he would remain
safe. Harry didn’t want to go back and he was sure the Weasley’s would take him in
for the rest of the summer but somehow Harry felt that he needed to… at least to
properly say goodbye, He still owed something to the Dursleys even though most of his
life was dreadful inside their house. Besides, if Dumbledore said he should go back until
he was legally of age, then he would do it… A few weeks wouldn’t hurt anyway.
“Hermione, Harry doesn’t need to go back to the muggles,” Ron started. “He’ll be of
age in July and he has more important things to do.” He said.
“That’s exactly it, he’ll be of age in July and until that time comes he has to go back
there, he can’t just leave and not go back.” Hermione said.
“Don’t worry I’m going back.” Harry said.
“You are? But what about Bill and Fleur’s wedding?” Ron asked.
“I’ll be there, but after that I have to go back to the Dursley’s… Hermione’s right,
I can’t just leave, and I want to ask my Aunt about something…” Harry said.
“And after that?” Hermione asked.
“After that I’ll go as planned I’m going to Godric’s Hollow” Harry answered quickly.
“I wonder if they’re going to close the school though…” Ron said ripping off the wrapping
of his fifth frog. “I mean, sure its chaos now that Dumbledore’s gone and everything
but there are still wizards and witches who’ll want to go to school and new students to be
picked right?”
“I think it’ll still re-open but considering the current situation, I think the student
population will drop… But I still think Hogwarts is the safest place in the wizarding world”
Hermione said.
“Safe? How can it be safe if an army of Death Eaters were able to rampage all over
the school?” Ron asked.
“Ron, they didn’t knock on the front doors of Hogwarts you know, and if I may add,
the vanishing cabinet in the Room of Requirement has been completely pulverized by
Professor McGonagall.” Hermione retorted.
“How can we be sure that it’s the only way to get inside? It wasn’t certainly in Hogwarts
a History. ” Ron argued.
“Seriously Ron you think that everything is supposed to be in a book?” Hermione said.
“Look who’s talking…” Ron retorted
“Would you both drop it?! You two are supposed to be into each other and you keep
on barking at each other!” Harry said suddenly making both of them jump.
“Sorry mate… caught in the moment…” Ron said as he looked at Hermione who rolled her
eyes and started stroking Crookshanks.
A few minutes passed in silence then the train started to slow down and they could
hear the other rooms bustling with their luggage.
“Harry, how do we go to Godric’s Hollow anyway?” Hermione asked as they started to rise
from their seats.
“I’ll figure that out later, that’s part of why I’m going back to Privet Drive.”
Harry answered.
Ron looked puzzled.
“Don’t worry before I go there I’ll meet with both of you.” Harry assured. “You are
sure you’re coming with me?” He asked.
“Of course, do you even need to ask that?” Hermione said.
“We won’t be leaving you mate even if you wanted us to” Ron said as he patted Harry’s
back.
“Well let’s get out of here then, I want to eat your Mum’s cooking.” Harry said with a smile.
With that they grabbed their trunks and Hedwig’s cage and headed down the platform.
