Change Your Mind
Disclaimer- Alright, I do not own Harry Potter or any of it’s characters.
Warning- Mild Violence and Humiliation in later chapters. Also spoilers for the fifth and sixth books. (Sorry if this fic isn’t more violent or sexy, but I have a hard time writing stuff like that because I am new.)
Summary- James was sure it was love, if only Lily could see past his show-boating, self-absorbed ways. But maybe James is the one who can’t see what is right in front of him.
A/N-This story goes right along with the books and is going to be about ten chapters long. I already have two of the chapters already typed up and ready to post and am working on the third one. I f you do want me to post more I will require many reviews-why, because- anyway, this fic is based of the song “Change your Mind” by the Killers in their cd Hot Fuss. Please be kind people, and if you want something funnier and more profane to read, please read my other fic, Snape’s Intervention.
Change Your Mind.

Chapter One:
Racy Days.
The Easter Holidays had ended at Hogwart’s School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and most of it’s students were relaxing outside on the grounds today, some basking by the lake while others chattered in groups beneath the shade of the large beech trees. This was their last day to enjoy the beautiful weather before they would begin their rigorous study schedules for the end-of-the-year-exams. The marauders, as they had come to call themselves, were no exception, and midday after lunch found the four friends sitting atop a grassy hill enjoying the scenery. Well, not all of them, as a seventeen your old boy with jet black hair and glasses had found a more entertaining way to pass the time.
James Potter, or as his friends called him, Prongs, was in his 7th and last year at Hogwarts, and played seeker for his house team, Gryffindor. Right now he was interested in the gang of Slytherin’s sitting below him by the lake, as he had he wand out and was using it to bewitch a small fluttering snitch to fly about their heads. His friend Peter Pettigrew, a mousy boy with no particular talent whom they had nick-named Wormtail, watched and laughed a little too hard as the snitch hit a 6th year boy square between the eyes and as two others who had lunged for it landed atop the enraged Slytherin . James was all too use to this behavior of Peter’s and had found that he rather quite enjoyed it. He wasn’t surprised to hear Peter gasp in awe as he summoned the snitch back to him, his free arm catching it effortlessly without him even looking.
His other two friends, who were sitting behind him, Remus Lupin and Sirius Black, or Moony and Padfoot, had also noticed that James had stopped his little game, although, unlike Peter, they had seen why. Sirius leaned back on his forearms as he rolled his eyes, smiling all the same at James. Remus watched with detached interest as Peter’s face finally filled with comprehension after seeing a particular someone walking across the green up to the Entrance Hall.
“Gods,”James said, “that Lily Evans never fails to take my breath away. How is it she seems to get more beautiful every time I see her?” He pocketed the golden snitch in his robes with a dreamy and excited look in his eyes. The others said nothing to him as he began running to greet Lily, but as soon as he was well out of range they all quickly looked up to watch, Sirius letting out a laugh that sounded more like a bark.
“Oi! Evans!” James bellowed, catching everyone on the ground’s attention as he stepped out in front of her. She stopped with her hands on her hips, looking at James as though he was something particularly nasty she had found on the bottom of her shoe. He couldn’t care less though, as he was too intent watching her as she impatiently blew a tassel of dark red hair off her face, her green eyes flashing at him.
“Oh come on Lily, don’t act as though you aren’t happy to see me, I might get the feeling you don’t like me.” He said as a gale of laughter followed his words. Compulsively he ran his hand over the back of his head, giving his already untidy hair a windswept look, as though he had just stepped off his broomstick. Apparently, this was much worse a thing to her than his comment because her face suddenly became stern and a red flush crept across her cheeks.
“I don’t have time for you today James, so please get out of my way before I hex you!” She said, with the slightest trace of desperation in her voice.
“What are you in a rush to get to Evans?” He said with a playful smirk. Almost everyone on the grounds was raptly paying attention to their conversation now, James and Lily were classic. Lily did not disappoint as she promptly pointed her wand at James and cried,
“Locomotor mortis!”
As he fell to the ground, his legs bound together by the leg-locker curse, he saw her quickly exit into the castle. He suddenly felt a fleeting feeling in his stomach, was it dread? Shaking him back into the present was the thunderous sound of laughter and applause coming from the students, the Slytherin’s being the loudest.
“Nice one, Potter!” Shrieked a pale-faced Slytherin girl, as the group of girls standing near her erupted in a fresh new fit of giggles. His face red, he pulled out his wand and quietly uttered the counter-curse, freeing his legs and standing up. As he walked back to his friends he noticed they all had strange looks on their faces. He was grateful to them for deciding to hold on to their comments for his sake, at least until the laughter died down. He tried to go along with the others by laughing as heartily as he could, as if what had just happened had been simply another show.
Sitting down on the soft grass next to Sirius, he pulled the golden snitch from his pocket and started to practice catching it in midair. He tried to think about the next week’s upcoming match, Gryffindor vs. Slytherin, which if they won would give them the Quidditch Cup for the 6th year in a row. He wasn’t too worried though, as a seeker he hadn’t yet failed to help his team win the Quidditch Cup, and he had never lost a match against the Slytherins. Instead he soon found his thoughts beginning to wander to Lily, and their recent conflict, as boys minds often do on warm, sunny days.
Why had she left? The question kept reappearing, leading to a circular train of thoughts within his mind. He had hoped things between them had improved, their arguments as of late were becoming longer and longer, as if she was purposefully lengthening them in order to spend more time with him. Today’s conversation, though, had once again shown a distant and uninterested Lily. If she had left because of him, then what had he done today to make her leave? Nothing, he thought, nothing he had done had been any different than usual, even the hair ruffling.
So, if it wasn’t him, then what was she up to? Where did she have to go? He knew she was smart, but never before had he seen her so desperate to go to a study date, it was almost as if she had begged James not to interfere.
“Careful Prongs.”Said Sirius, with a look of fake warning and alarm across his face. Both Remus and Peter looked up to listen. James noticed that Sirius had the snitch in his hand, it’s wings beating helplessly against his fingers.
“You looked like you were deep in thought and you almost made me think that you were actually in love with Lily, and that you aren’t just a horny teenager with an over-inflated ego.” He sniggered and tossed James the snitch, who caught it in his lap and began to look at it rather than retort.
“You know,” said Remus, acting as though he hadn’t heard Sirius, “ Lily might take you more seriously if you would take her seriously.”
“Yeah,” added Sirius, “ take Moony’s advice. Try talking to her alone or something, Lily’s too much of a class act to snog in public anyway.” Even Remus laughed this time and James finally looked up.
“I do take her seriously!” He said, glancing at Peter for support, as Remus and Sirius both wore looks of disbelief and smugness not unlike that of an adult trying to explain something to a toddler. He was most taken aback to see that Peter looked utterly wide-eyed with surprise.
“You do?” He said, his face now screwing in concentration as he thought and then suddenly brightening as he came to a sudden conclusion.
“Oh! I get it! Padfoot was being sarcastic about you being a horny teenager with an over-inflated ego!” He looked around at their stunned faces, beaming.
His look of triumph didn’t last long though, as it is hard to maintain one with a golden sphere the size of a golf ball crammed in your mouth.
