Chapter 1: Calling All Information

From HP&HBP:
Snape gazed for a moment at Dumbledore, and there was revulsion and hatred etched in the harsh lines of his face.

“Severus…please…”

Snape raised his wand and pointed it directly at Dumbledore.

“Avada Kedavra!”

SIX WEEKS LATER:

Harry wakes up screaming.

Ron wakes and starts screaming as well. He stops when he realizes it is Harry. He then walks over and shakes Harry. “Ah, mate no another nightmare.”

Harry stops screaming and starts breathing deeply. Ron looks at him worriedly.

Harry looks at Ron and whispers, “Dumbledore let Snape kill him…”

Ron stares at Harry. Then states, “Have you gone mental? Why would he do that?”

Harry’s grow to the size of saucers as he murmurs, “That is what I would like to ask Snape?”

Ron moves back to his bed and starts to settle down when Harry gets out of his bed, puts on his glasses and begins to pace. Ron pulls a face. “You aren’t going to wear a hole in the carpet tonight aren’t you? Keep this up you’re bunking in with Hermione, ” he promises.

“Ron, you have the best ideas! I definitely need to speak to Hermione, right now,” exclaims Harry as he puts on his dressing gown and walks out of their room.

Harry walks downstairs and through the Common Room and toward the Girls portion of Gryffindor. He quietly strides into Hermione’s room over to her bed and starts to shake her awake.

Hermione opens one eye and looks at him, “Did you have another nightmare?”

Harry looks at her and said, “Yes, but that’s not why I’m here.

Hermione sits up and stretches her arms then sleepily looks at him. She considers him seriously, “Is this how plan to seduce me, because I think Ginny would kill me if it is.”

Harry looks at her dumbly, then goes, “Oh, no! I just thought of something. You know that information you were able to look up Snape’s parents.

Hermione yawns, “Yes.”

Harry continues, “ Do think you could dig up more stuff on Snape?”

Hermione pauses for a second as she readjusts her bedclothes, “What direction should this research project go?”

Harry counters, “During my last detention with Snape he had cards of my dad’s and Sirus’ detentions. These cards had what they did, to whom, and when. Particularly, I want to know what classes he had, how well he did, who were his study partners, lab partners, and project partners. That book of his may not be just his own work, but collaboration. He claimed that some of those spells and potion ideas were of his own invention what if he had a partner to help him out with all of that stuff. I don’t know…my instincts say that continuing the course Dumbledore set is best. All I know is that Dumbledore showed me how Tom Riddle became Voldermort and his desire for immortality through the Horcruxes. Now I need to know why Snape is the way he is and why Dumbledore trusted him.”

Hermione crosses her arms against chest. “Is there something about what happened in Dumbledore’s office that you want to…you know?”

“I think…I think, Dumbledore is controlling this situation from beyond the grave practically. I guess the reason I thought of this…I mean…something keeps bothering me about what happened. Snape apparently vowed to Narcissa Malfoy to protect her son no matter what. . It’s like Snape and Narcissa have a relationship or connection of some sort that they hold higher than Voldermort. For the first time in this crazy war someone on Voldermort’s side has elected to put their dictates over his. Frankly, I never thought of Draco Malfoy as someone who needed protection. You should have seen him in Moaning Myrtle’s bathroom. I actually felt sorry for him, for a few seconds. He seemed completely and utterly helpless. Such protective behavior from Snape is most unSnape-like,” he professes.

“Not really, Snape was looking after the welfare of a Hogwarts’ student something he has done time and time again. Like the time he tried to stop Quirrell from hurting you during your first Quidditch match. Or the time he thought that Sirus was going to kill you, nix that all of us. If you ask me Snape has always done what he could to protect us even we did not necessarily cooperate. The only thing I don’t understand is why he felt it was necessary to kill Professor Dumbledore,” she commiserates.

Harry went over the events six weeks previous in head. He slowly whispers, “ Well before Snape arrived, when Malfoy and those other Death Eaters were there Dumbledore didn’t seem worried. He even said as much to Malfoy. He told Malfoy before everyone else arrived “It is my mercy, not yours, that matters now.” But when Snape came everyone looked to him…. Draco, the Death Eaters, and Dumbledore…that is it! Hermione, has Professor McGonagall looked through the Headmaster affects, yet?”

Harry stands up and begins pacing again.

Hermione straights up and thinks then says, “I don’t think so. She has been too busy trying to keep the school from closing. Why do you ask?”

“Because I think Dumbledore left us everything we need to destroy Voldermort. We just need to use our tools properly. I bet Professor Dumbledore’s office contains everything we need to know about Voldermort , Snape and maybe Horcruxes,” reasons Harry.

“Then I suppose we need to start looking,” she informs. “But you’re running interferce with Professor McGonagall.”
