AN- This story contains some squicky subject matter, not least of which is the SS/HG pairing. The story is mainly focused around Hermione finding the diary of a girl who was involved with one of her professors, and Hermione’s reflective journey on the similarities and dissimilarities of her relationship with Severus.
Disclaimer- It’s all Rowling’s, Laura Madley was sorted into Hufflepuff in Harry’s 4th year. Therefore, she will be a 6th year in Hermione’s first year of apprenticing, if Hermione took the apprenticeship a year after graduating, as I have her doing in this story. Stuart Ackerly is a Ravenclaw boy in her year, and Eleanor Branstone is a Hufflepuff girl in her year. Actually, Gulliver Raymond and Davy are original, but I’m not particularly proud of them.
Hermione Granger, apprentice and lover to Severus Snape, walked down the corridor. She was in a bit of a hurry, but she stopped when she heard crying from a bathroom. Stepping in, she saw a 6th year Hufflepuff student, Laura Madley, slumped over a toilet, blood all around her.
Hermione stepped closer, and was appalled to see the girl’s head in the toilet, and a baby partially emerged from between her legs. Hurrying forward, Hermione pulled the baby the rest of the way out, and held her while she turned the girl over. Laura’s face was deathly pale, and Hermione couldn’t feel a pulse. Panicking, Hermione jumped to her feet, and dashed off to the Infirmary, still holding the baby.
Madam Pomfrey was quite alarmed to see the Potions Apprentice dash in with an infant covered in blood, but she regained her poise quickly when Hermione explained what she had seen. Hermione accompanied the mediwitch back to the bathroom, where Laura still lay. Pomfrey grabbed the girl’s book bag, and then started levitating Laura towards the hospital wing. Hermione started to follow, but then noticed a small diary on the floor. She was about to call it to Madam Pomfrey’s attention, but the nurse seemed too preoccupied, so Hermione stuck it in her pocket to give over when the situation had calmed down.
When they arrived at the hospital wing, the nurse worked frantically on Laura, stopping only to order Hermione to, “Go bring Dumbledore and Snape, quickly!” After conjuring a crib for the baby, Hermione raced off to obey, first fetching the Headmaster, and then barreling down to the dungeons.
She found Severus teaching a class of fourth year Gryffindors and Slytherins, and judging by the scowl on his face, he didn’t seem to appreciate being interrupted. Nonetheless, Hermione gasped out, clutching the stitch in her side, “Hospital wing, Pomfrey, needs your help.”
He must have understood that she was serious, because he immediately snarled, “Class dismissed,” and hurried out of the dungeons without bothering to wait for her. Hermione, who had just ran the length of the school almost two full times, and had gone up and down at least 8 flights of stairs, made her way back more slowly. How anyone could be overweight or out of shape in this place, she had no idea.
By the time she got back, the place was in an uproar. Most of the professors were there, along with some Ministry officials, and some St. Mungos healers. Hermione was rather perturbed when she was told, “Leave, no students allowed!” by a frazzled looking Ministry worker. Nevertheless, she left, figuring Severus would tell her about it when he came home. Besides, she wanted to look at the diary. Perhaps it would give her a clue as to how Laura had ended up in this position.
Back home in the dungeons, Hermione opened up the diary and read the first entry,

Today was the first DADA lesson! OMG! Prof. Raymond is my fave teacher! He’s sooo cool, his name is Gulliver but he told us to call him Gully and he let everyone ask him questions all period! No lesson! He’s my favorite teacher, and I wish all my teachers were like him! Gully is so cool, not like Snape, who gave me detention for NOTHING. Just because stupid Stewart Ackerly teased me and I put extra lacewings in his cauldron. UNFAIR. Stupid greasy evil BASTARD!!! I’m sooo glad Gully is the DADA teacher, and not Slimy Snape. Eleanor loves Gully too, our whole class does. I can’t wait until next lesson!
Well, no mention of a boyfriend sofar, but Hermione figured that he had to come up soon, after all, the baby had to have been conceived in at least November, December if it was really premature. Hermione continued reading the next entry,
September 5
Arg! I hate Eleanor! Just because I won’t let her copy my DADA homework, she says I’m a BAD FRIEND. I’m NOT. Gully would be sooo disappointed in us if we cheated, and it’s his first year teaching, I can’t do that to him! Stuart was teasing me again, too. He said I was fat and stupid, that’s why I was in Hufflepuff. He said that Hufflepuff was a house for stupid people who could never accomplish anything, only follow other people around like stupid whipped dogs. I HATE him.
Hermione found herself both indignant on Laura’s behalf, and disgusted that those were the best insults the supposedly “clever” house could come up with.

That Stuart Ackerly! After Charms today he pulled me against the wall and poured ink all over my papers. He said if I told nobody would believe me, because everyone knows Hufflepuffs are always spilling things. Stuart reminds me of Davy. Back home, Davy always used to blame bad things on me, even when they weren’t my fault. Nobody ever caught Davy either.
Even though the backstory wasn’t really pertinent to finding out who the father of this girl’s baby was, Hermione still wondered. Was Laura being abused at home by her brother? Hermione vaguely remembered David Madley, a Slytherin that had been 2 years older than her. He seemed to be a quiet kid, from what little she knew of him, but she’d never seen his behavior at home, either.

Gully is so wise! He told us all that we had to fight the darkness, and believe in ourselves. He said that some people might say we’re only 16, but HE knows we’re adults, and ready for all the challenges in the world. He even makes me feel like I can stop Stuart from picking on me. I LOVE him so much, and I wish he wasn’t my professor.
Hermione reminisced about when she had finally insisted Severus start treating her like an adult. After the final battle with Voldemort in 7th year, Hermione, Ron, and Harry had all taken a year off to travel, relax, and have fun. When she returned, Severus hadn’t recognized her. After he realized, he had, (after much persuading,) accepted her as his apprentice. ‘The year off had really made the difference,’ Hermione thought, ‘because it gave him a way to separate the “child” me and the “adult” me. A few moments later, Hermione realized that she was neglecting her task, and returned to the diary.
September 11
I saw Stuart in a corridor today. He sneered at me, and made a nasty comment about my weight. Then, diary, he did something he never did before- he reached out and tugged one of my breasts and said “who would ever want this?” It felt weird, but not bad. It should have felt bad. I shouldn’t have let him do that. Davy showed me what I wasn’t supposed to let boys do to me, but the movies he showed made it look different. I know about sex, but I don’t want to have sex with Stuart, and if you let boys touch your breasts they will think they can have sex with you.
Hermione was horrified. How dare that Ackerly boy? How dare Davy? This poor girl obviously was psychologically abused at home, and now physically abused at school? Besides, who told her that allowing a boy to touch her breasts was the same as saying yes to sex? Probably Davy.
September 17
I haven’t written in a long time. Gully was wrong. I’m not strong. Stuart found me today. He used a spell to tie my hands, and there was nobody around. He locked the room, and he took off my shirt. He ripped it, but I fixed it later. Stuart touched my breasts, a lot. He just kept rubbing them, and I couldn’t ask him to stop. I don’t know why. There was a funny twisty feeling. My nipples got all stiff and hard. He laughed, and he said I was a slut, and that I deserved everything he would do. I wanted to tell him to stop but I couldn’t. I don’t know why my nipples do that for him. I didn’t want them to. I wanted him to take his hands off. He wouldn’t. He got a big bump in his pants, and he got out his thing. It was purple and ugly. I wished he would put it away. He rubbed it against my breasts, until he got at red and he squirted all over my face. Then he rubbed in my face. He grabbed some of my fat and he twisted it. He said that I was a fat bitch and I should be dead. He kept pinching and twisting my stomach. He said anyone with this many rolls should open up a bakery. He slapped me, then he got dressed and said if I ever told, he would kill me.
That poor girl! Hermione was so angry. How dare that nasty boy do those things to her? As soon as Severus came home, she would go with him to get Stuart Ackerly and bring him to the headmaster’s office.

Gully found out.
Hermione stopped mid-entry. Gully knew? Gully knew, and Stuart was still in school? Hermione was aghast. She returned to the diary,
When he found out, Gully was so nice. I LOVE Gully. I’ve only known him a few weeks, but I LOVE him. He said I was beautiful, and Stuart was a fool. He said he would take care of me. I’ve only known Gully for 3 weeks but it feels like I’ve known him FOREVER.
AN2- Alright. I’ll write more, if I get a response, if not, I’ll probably leave off. Not to blackmail you, that’s just how I am. I need motivation. Next chapter will get into more of the student/teacher relationship dynamics. Please note, I haven’t decided if this will end up a happy story or not.
