Love Undeserved

This story is a romance between Hermione Granger and Lucius Malfoy. I do not own or claim for my own any of the Harry Potter characters. I only write this to express an interest in the depths of JK Rowlings characters and to imagine what will never be in her novels.



Chapter 1: Beginnings and Endings

The sun rose early on the cold, crisp morning, bringing with it hopes of an undiscovered future and the promise of adventure. Hogwart’s seventh years were opening their sleepless eyes, half filled with wonder and half with sadness as their education at the castle was ending. Hermione Granger sat at her large window seat, in her Head Girl room and found it hard to imagine leaving the place she learned to call home.
As dawn become more insistent against diminishing night, Hermione reflected on the previous year’s events.

It has been Christmas time in their sixth year and Voldemort had callously planned his attack the night before vacation. Remembering the final battle was too much for Hermione, especially since so many dear to her perished. Seamus Finnegan, Susan Bones, Pavarti Patil, Professor Flitwick, and lastly, the hardest loss of all, Professor Dumbledore, who in an attempt to give Harry the chance for a final blow, distracted an over-confident Voldemort. As Dumbledore received the Killing Curse, Harry conjured the most powerful opposite, the Curse of Life, pouring into his words all the love he felt for his parents, friends and Hogwarts family. Voldemort’s being, so racked with death and a deep fathomless blackness, was filled with something he never had felt before. The mixture of Harry’s positive spell collided with his release of the negative energy of the Avada Kedavra spell and he perished in white flames bound skyward.

Silent tears rolled down Hermione’s cheek as the blur of the afterward came rolling in. Deatheaters were sentenced to life in Azkaban save for Lucius Malfoy, who was suspiciously missing from the fray of the final battle. Although the Ministry knew him to be a supporter, the physical evidence was circumstantial and his money and influence saved him from imprisonment.

Harry was given an honorary degree from Hogwarts and went on an extended vacation with Remus Lupin to Brazil. Ron and Hermione were left alone and not having Harry there to ease the clash of their personalities, they drifted apart. Hermione knew he was going to train at the Ministry to become an Auror and then she knew she would almost never see him. Her real passion was defense against the dark arts when at the end of her sixth year, she discovered she could perform wandless magic. After her discovery, she went to Headmaster McGonagall and began training to master her abilities. When rumors spread of her capabilities, the students eyed her strangely and pulled away from her. Hermione smirked at the knowledge that her intelligence and magical abilities always separated her from the rest of wizarding world, just as her muggle heritage. She was satified in knowing she was living proof that all the pureblood prejudice was bullshit and sincerely hoped Lucius Malfoy was simmering in his mansion at the thought that a “mudblood” could do something with magic that he will never be able to do.
