Let’s get it started!
=+=+=+=+=+=+=
For the third time in a week, Draco Malfoy opened his eyes, ears and nose to the sound of his husband of a year, puking his guts out once again. Sliding from the warm bed Draco padded his way into the bathroom and knelt down next to Harry, who groaned and rested his head on the side of the toilet, staring up at Draco.
“I feel like shit.”
“I figured.”
Harry sniffled and pulled his head out of the bowl of the gross toilet, flushing it all down. He slumped against the wall and let the tears fall, “Why do I feel so bad Dray?”
“Oh baby,” Draco slid forward and sat on the floor next to his crying angel, he pulled the smaller man onto his lap and hugged him tightly. “I don’t know why you feel so bad. Maybe you have the flu?”
“I don’t think it’s the flu!” Harry whined, wiping his tears away, only to have more drip down his cheeks. “I hate being sick.”
“Everyone hates being sick.”
“I haven’t been this sick in a long time though!”
“What do you want me to do baby? Want me to call Poppy?”
“No. I have an appointment later today. After my lunch with everyone. Can you make it?”
Draco shook his head, “No, not this time.”
“Draco, ever since you started going up in the Ministry you never have time for anything anymore. Millie is getting mad at you and Greg told me to tell you that if you miss another lunch he was going to beat you up. Of course he asked my permission first and I gave it to him. Pansy just said that you know what she will do to you. Blaise said nothing. I swear sometimes she bugs the hell out of me.”
“I’m sorry babes and tell the rest the same but you know I have this huge thing I’m working on. And we have that dinner with my mum tonight remember?”
“Oh yeah...”
“I can always cancel if you want me to my love.”
“No, no. I’ll be okay.”
“If you insist,” Draco said. He then slid an arm under his husband’s legs and raised the two of them off the ground. Harry smiled and wrapped his arms around the taller mans neck. He hated his height but he loved the fact that Draco could hold him so easily. The blond set him in bed and pulled the covers up to his chin. He smiled at the small man and kissed him softly.
“You’re adorable.”
Harry grinned up at him and Draco sat down next to him. “I’ll call you to wake you up okay?”
Harry nodded and rolled over onto his side, burrowing into the covers. He felt a soft hand on his back and his eyes drifted close as he felt Draco stand from the bed and make his way into the bathroom to get ready for work.
It was a few hours that Harry faintly heard the phone on his side of the bed ring before Draco’s voice filled the large room.
“Wake up sleepy head. Time to get up baby. Harry.... get up, love.”
The man in question rolled over and slapped the speaker button on the phone, “Hi.”
“Hi, baby. Feel better?”
“Yeah.”
“That’s great babes. Now it’s time for you to get your ass out of bed and into the shower for your lunch.”
“I know.” Harry kicked the covers off of himself and swung his legs to the side of the bed, his feet touching the ground. He stood from the bed and moved towards the wardrobe.
“We need a shorter bed,” he said as he opened the doors to the cabinet.
“Aww, having trouble getting out of bed?”
“Draco, shut up while you’re ahead. And no, I didn’t have trouble getting out of bed. I’m just sick of having to almost jump to get on it. And if you make a height joke I swear to you, you won’t be allowed to so much touch me for two weeks.”
He could hear Draco pout into the phone, “That’s not fair.”
“Life isn’t fair my love. Well I have to go. Love you.” He wandered back to the phone as Draco was saying bye and giving his love. The small man smiled at this lover and moved to the radio, turning it on and up.
It was a half an hour later when the music was turned down and Harry pulled on his coat to leave their apartment. He wandered down the stairs and outside into the old air, walking down the sidewalk. Turning the corner he smiled at the sight in front of him.
Pansy sat at the table they had claimed years ago, a book in front of her along with coffee. Harry slowly walked up to her and pulled out the chair next to the woman he had come to think was a sister.
Without even looking up from her book she greeted him, “Hello darling.”
“Hi.”
“No better half today?”
“Nope.”
“What is it this time?”
“Huge client.”
“Wasn’t that what it was last time?”
“Yeah...” Harry trailed off.
“Is everything okay?”
“Yeah... I think.”
“I’m always here if you need to talk okay.”
“Thanks Pans.”
“WHY HELLO YOU TWO!” Millicent bounced up to the table, Vince close behind. They were still going strong for being together since sixth year. Blaise and Greg followed closely. They all sat down and started to chat when Neville ran up to the table and plopped himself down into the chair next to his girlfriend. He grinned at them all, placed a kiss on Pansy’s cheek and ordered a coffee from the waiter that was wandering around before dropping his arm behind the black haired girls’ chair. Millicent was the first one to notice Harry’s fatigue.
“Darling, you look weary.”
Pansy turned, “You do! Are you alright?! Waiter! Water please!”
“I’m fine! I have an appointment with Dr.Standford later today.”
“Oh, is that that really nice doctor that helped us with injuries after the war?” Neville asked, glancing at his best friend.
Harry nodded, smiling slightly, “Yeah. Draco and I always go to him now. He’s the only one we both really trust, besides Poppy of course.”
“How is she by the way?” Vince asked, ordering another drink.
“Wonderful. She’s excited about being able to retire finally. She wouldn’t tell me who is taking over though.”
Their food came and the conversation drifted to work and as Harry was the only one who didn’t (Draco wouldn’t let him (they had gotten in a huge fight about it)) he couldn’t really drift into the chat. It was a few hours later when Harry glanced at his watch and stood from the table, “I got to go guys. I’ll call you later okay Pans?”
She nodded and he wandered down the street before he shoved his hand out with his wand hidden and the giant purple bus bounced down the street.
“Welcome to the Knight Bus. Anywhere you wanna do just tell us and we’ll take ya!” Stan opened his eyes and smiled widely, “Heya Harry!”
“Hi Stan, How are you?”
“I’m great! How are ya?”
“Good good. Can you take me to Dr.Standford’s Office please?”
“Sure thing Harry. Five sickles please!” He held out his hand and Harry gave him the money before he plopped down into one of the chairs and the bus was off again, stopping at the Leaky Cauldron before heading to Dr.Standford’s office. He hopped off the bus, waved to Stan and Ernie and wandered inside.
“Good Afternoon Mr. Potter. Just sign in please,” Lynette smiled at him and gestured to the clipboard on the counter next to her.
He flashed her a charming smile and wrote his name on the line, “How are you Lynette?”
“I’m wonderful. How are you?”
“Sick.”
“Aww you poor little thing. Dr.Standford shall be with you in a few, darling, just take a seat.”
Harry complied, sitting down on a fluffy couch. He reached over and picked up a magazine about Child Birth and was looking confusedly at one of the pictures when a deep laugh caused him to look over the magazine. Dr. Geoffrey Standford stood in the doorway, leaning against the frame. His chocolate eyes twinkled with amusement and he had more gray hair then the last time Harry had seen him, mixed into the chocolate colored hair.
“Going to have a sex change Harry?”
Harry laughed, “Oh yes and Draco would be so happy with me for that.”
Geoff smiled and winked, gesturing Harry towards the back room with his head as the door opened and laughter floated in. Lynette jumped up and ran from behind her desk, “Ladies! You are not expected until next week!”
“We came to see our sister!” Voices floated over Geoff and Harry as the taller doctor shoved him towards one of the rooms.
“I’ll be right back.” His anger was evident in his eyes and his voice and Harry watched as he spun on his heal to stalk down the hallway.
“I told you NO visitors! I don’t know why I even hired you!” Geoff’s voice floated down the hallway and a woman stepped out of the doctor’s lounge with long brown hair and honey eyes, a face Harry would know anywhere.
Hermione rolled her eyes at Geoff and turned around to face him. “You hired me because I’m good at what I do.” She spoke in a snotty voice and looked down upon the older doctor.
His eyes narrowed and he glared back, “I didn’t have to hire you Granger and I can fire you in a matter of minutes. Get your fucking family out of here and if you don’t you’ll be gone before you can open your mouth.” She rolled her eyes, nodded and walked past the room Harry was in, currently wishing he had called Draco before he left the restaurant.
Geoff glared at her back and walked back down the hallway and into Harry’s room. “I’m sorry about that. I personally can not wait until she leaves. I honestly don’t know why I hired her in the first place. I couldn’t stand her when I met her all those years ago why did I think I could stand her now?”
“I dunno?”
“I’m sorry Harry,” he hit the table, “Plop right up here for me and we can start this thing for you.” Harry smiled sympathetically and plopped up on table, “Now, tell me why you’re here.”
“Well, I’m sick of waking up sick.”
“Meaning?”
“Every morning I wake up and run to bathroom to get sick. I’m tired easier and faster and eating more. I feel fatter than normal too.”
Geoff smiled and rose an eyebrow, “Okay. Let’s start. Up!” Harry jumped down and stood straight up. Geoff tapped his wand on the shorter mans head and muttered a spell, “5’4”.” He did it once again, “97 lbs. You are very skinny for your age Harry.”
“I can never seem to take in more than a small amount of food. Believe me Narcissa, Draco and Pansy all try to feed me more but I can never finish it.”
“You said you were malnourished as a child?”
He nodded.
“And locked in a cupboard?”
He nodded again.
“That’s probably why you can’t grow anymore or take any anything besides a certain amount of food. So I wouldn’t worry about that too much.” A knock interrupted the speech and Geoff rolled his eyes, “Yes? Can’t you see I’m busy?”
Hermione’s voice floated though the door, “You have a firecall.”
“Tell them I’m with a patient.”
“It’s your wife.” The older man rolled his eyes again and glanced at Harry, who smiled and nodded telling Geoff to go take the call. The door opened and Hermione was still standing there, looking bored. She looked over the tall mans shoulder and shock overcame her features as she leaned in the doorway.
“Harry.” It was the only word that he had heard her speak without annoyance in it. He stared straight at her, then, with the hand with his wedding ring on it, ran a hand though his hair. She blinked and her eyes got wide. “You got married.”
“Yes, I did.”
“When?”
“Christmas’s after we left school.”
“Wow.”
He blinked and stared at her. She cleared her throat, “I’m shocked I didn’t hear about it.”
“No one did, at least not until after we were married. There were a total of seventeen people there, including myself and Draco. Then Lucius forbade the papers to print it.”
“Who was there?”
“Albus, who preformed it, Remus, who gave me away, Neville stood by me, Pansy by Draco, Millicent, Vincent, Gregory, Blaise, Severus, Lucius, Narcissa, Fred, Lee, George and Katie. Oh and Oliver and Luna, so that makes nineteen. Sorry.”
“The twins were there?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Ask them.” He started to fiddle with his ring as Geoff walked back into the room.
“Your presence is not needed anymore Hermione.” She nodded and left the room. Geoff closed the door and looked back at Harry, shocked. Harry stared at the door and Geoff shrugged, letting the small man get lost in his thoughts as he went though the small steps of the exam. He waved a hand in front of Harry’s face and told him to lie back onto the table then to relax as best as he could.
“I think I know what is wrong with you but I just want to make sure okay? So I’m going to do the spell now. It shouldn’t do anything more than tingle. Tell me if you feel warmth,” Geoff explained and Harry nodded, watching as Standford muttered a spell over his belly. Immediately warmth filled him and he closed his eyes in content. “Let me guess. It’s warm?”
A nod from the emerald eyed man and open eyes.
“Well than, let me be the first to wish you a congratulations. You’re going to have a baby.”
“What!? How?!” He asked, shocked. Geoff looked confused and Harry sighed, “I grew up in the muggle world.”
“Oh yeah! Sorry Harry. I forgot. Let me explain it to you. Powerful gay males who want children are able to conceive. If you were to ask any of your friends from Hogwarts I can almost guarantee that at least one of them was a result of a same sex couple. Also, if the couple isn’t naturally powerful, there are tons of potions people can take. It’s just like a normal pregnancy.”
Harry sat up slowly and stared at his stomach, resting his hands on top before letting the amazement take him over. “I am, really?”
Standford smiled. “Yeah, you are. Now, I want to see you again in two months okay? You can bring Draco if you like. Take it easy, you don’t want to harm the baby. Not a lot of caffeine or magic. Male pregnancy’s last from 8 to 11 months long, depending on the person. When you come in, in two months we will be able to tell. Yes, you can have sex until the day the baby is born. Your appetite shall increase and you will gain weight. Depending on how long your pregnancy is I might put you on bed rest for the last month considering your size okay? Is that understandable?” A nod of shocked amazement, “And I’ll give you something to help with the morning sickness. Talk with the woman in your life that have had children and be sure to tell Draco. He’ll be able to tell soon if you don’t.” Geoff handed Harry his coat, which was on the chair and three bottles of an orange potion, “One sip before bed every night. If it doesn’t help tell me, I have some other kinds.”
“Thank you Doctor.”
“Harry?”
Green eyes met brown, “Be safe okay?”
A nod and black hair went flying before Harry vanished out of the room and Geoff leaned against the table.
~`~
Walking the street to their apartment Harry checked the time. It five after five, Draco should be home. He crossed his arms over his chest and shivered in the cold. Wandering down the street a bit further he opened the door to their building and started up the steps, thinking of a way to tell Draco about the baby. He opened the door and was instantly embraced in a large hug that lifted him off the ground.
“Harry! Where were you? You were supposed to be home at three and I’ve already been home an hour! I’ve been worried sick about you my love. Are you alright?”
Harry looked up at Draco and kissed him hard, “I love you, you know that?”
“Of course I know it. I love you too.”
The ex-seeker was silent for a moment, looking down at his feet and Draco watched, scared, “A lot?”
“More than anything and with every fiber of my being.”
Harry looked up at Draco and the silver eyed man saw excitement, amazement and nervousness in the emerald orbs, “I found out why I’ve been getting sick.”
“And?”
“Well, it’ll go away soon but the effects will last forever.”
“Harry.”
“Can we not go to your parents tonight?” He looked up at his husband from behind his hair, green eyes pleading.
Draco nodded, even more scared now. He snapped and their house elf appeared, “Tell my parents that we will not be joining them for dinner because Harry does not feel well and that I have a headache.”
The elf nodded and vanished with a pop.
“Love, what is it?” Draco asked softly.
“We are going to be parents.” It was whispered.
Draco blinked, “What?”
“You heard me. We are going to have a baby. With your hair and my eyes and ten perfect fingers and ten perfect toes.”
Astonished happiness flew off of the blond in waves, “Really?”
A smile covered Harry’s lips, “Really.” He said it while nodding.
Draco stared at Harry in shock as emerald eyes stared up at him. Draco let a smile cover his lips and he slowly dropped to his knees in front of his husband and set his ear on Harry’s stomach, “Wow.” Harry ran his figures though the blond hair and they stood like that for a long time, in peaceful silence. The house-elf came back with Narcissa’s message yet they still stood the same way they were. The blond stood suddenly and pulled the black haired man down the hallway and to their room. A gasp filled the air as Harry was set on the bed softly.
“I’m pregnant, not incapable Draco.”
“Shush love.” He pulled up Harry’s shirt and placed a kiss on his belly. Harry smiled as he watched his lover rest his blond head on his tan stomach. Draco’s eyes were closed in complete contentment that Harry felt floating off of him in heavy waves. Draco sat up suddenly and yanked off his shirt, tossing it to land on the chair next to the wall. He laid down again, his breath tickling Harry’s abdomen. Harry’s hands went to the blond hair and they sat in silence for a long time, both excited about the life they had created.
~~~~~~
It was two months later when both of the wizards went to see Standford once again. The door to the office opened, letting in the cold air and Harry entered the building closely followed by Draco. It was November and winter seemed to be coming early this year. They untangled themselves from their scarves and gloves before Draco plopped down in a chair. Harry smiled at him and sat down next to his husband. Their hands joined and Harry leaned onto Draco.
“Well aren’t you two just the cutest little things.” Draco looked up at the voice and smiled at Lynette.
“Hello Lynette.”
“Hello Draco, Harry.”
“Hi Lynette.”
Lynette stood from her desk and wandered around to the front, leaning on it for support, “How are you two?”
“Currently relaxing. I’m off from work until I decide to go back –”
“And everything else is fine,” Harry cut Draco off, causing the ex-Slytherin to glare. Draco was the one to feel the eyes on them first and turned to look straight into the face of Ginny Weasley, who looked very pregnant. He glared at her shocked look and turned back to Harry, whose hands were now resting on his tummy without knowing it.
Harry felt Draco tense next to him, “What’s wrong?”
“The Littlest Weasley is here and she looks like she’s a balloon.”
“What?” Harry asked sharply and turned to see Ginny staring at the two of them. “Oh wow,” he whispered, “she does look like a balloon.” Suddenly fear filled his eyes, “Will I look like that?”
“Oh baby, probably not.”
“But what if?”
“No ‘what if’s. Even if you do get big I’ll never stop loving you and that’s all that matters.”
Harry looked up at him, “Promise?”
“I promise.” Draco smiled at him and Harry shifted off of his chair to sit on Draco, causing the older woman who had just walked in to coo at them. The door to the office opened and a familiar face poked her head out of it. Hannah looked around, smiled at Harry and Draco, before her eyes landed on Ginny.
“Ginny, Dr. Connor will see you now.” Ginny pushed herself out of the chair, using her arms to heave her round body up.
“Thanks Hannah.”
“Not a problem.” Hannah stepped to the side then closed to door after Ginny wobbled though. She walked swiftly to Harry and hugged him tightly, which Harry returned, before hugging Draco the best she could. “It’s so great to see you two again. Why are you here?”
“Promise not to tell?” Harry asked, smiling. He had always liked Hannah.
“Promise.”
“Well, we are going to be become parents.”
Hannah looked shocked before a wide grin covered her face, “Oh wow guys. That’s amazing for you two.” At that moment Geoff appeared in the doorway, smiling at the couple, who excused themselves from Hannah and followed the doctor back to his room.
“It seems quieter back here,” Harry commented, taking a seat on the table. Draco made himself comfortable on a chair, legs out in front of him and Standford sat on a stool.
“That’s because there is no more Hermione to deal with.”
Draco looked up at the mention of Hermione’s name, “Granger worked here?”
“Yeah but she got a better offer somewhere else.”
“Where?”
“She’s taking over for Poppy temporarily until Poppy can find a better Medi-Witch or Wizard to take over.”
“Didn’t you want to go to medical school at one point Harry?” Draco asked, glancing at the black haired small man.
“Yes, but family comes first.”
“You know Harry, it\'s very easy to have family come first and try to get a job at the same time, especially if you’re just going to be going to school. Plus, I think you’d be a great Medi-Wizard. I saw how you dealt with the kids who lost their parents during the war. I think you could major in pediatric,” Geoff said as he grabbed a small screen from a cabinet.
Harry blinked and looked at the doctor, “What do you mean?”
“Become a children’s doctor. You have enough patients to work with them and then you can go and take over from Hermione,” Geoff grinned, “Lay back.”
Draco stood and stepped over to the table, looking down at Harry as Standford lifted Harry’s sweater, “Didn’t you work with Poppy a bit during your sixth year?”
Harry nodded, “Yeah, and during the war like Geoff said.” A gasp came from his lips, “That is cold. What is it?” He lifted his head to see Geoff squirting a clear gel on his slightly round stomach.
“This will allow you to see and hear your baby plus it will allow me to make sure everything is running smoothly.” A smiled crossed the doctor’s face at the shocked looks; he always loved it when he had first time parents.
A whispered, “Wow.” And Standford watched as Harry reached for Draco’s hand without realizing it. They looked at each other and smiled before Draco kissed his lovers head.
“Ready?” Both nodded and Standford placed his wand on Harry’s stomach, whispering a spell as he did so. “Now, first we are going to hear just your heartbeat but as I move my wand, listen.” They listened as a slower heartbeat filled the air closely followed by a faster one. Geoff turned on the screen with a tap of his wand then showed the two their baby.
Harry sat up at this moment and pulled Draco with him to stare at the picture, his eyes wide, “I don’t see it.”
Standford laughed, “At this point your baby is still very small but if you look near the middle of the screen you’ll see an outline.”
Draco pointed at the outline, “There?”
Standford nodded, “Yep.”
They sat and stared at the outline for a long time.
Months later Harry stomped inside their apartment, slamming the door closed, causing Draco to look up.
“What’s wrong love?” Draco asked; scared because he knew what was wrong already.
“They found out!” he moaned and fell onto the couch next to Draco, leaning against him
“Oh.”
Harry turned his glaring eyes to his husband, “Who do we know that would have told them!?” Harry turned to the blond, “Draco. You didn’t tell them did you?”
“Why would I do that love? I know how much you want to do this but I do know who.”
“Who?” Harry asked, looking up into gray eyes.
“My mother.”
A brokenhearted look covered Harry’s face and he looked away as tears filled his eyes, “She knows how much I want to do this.”
Draco sighed, grabbed a tissue and pulled his round husband onto his lap, “I know that love,” he wiped the tears away, “and I know she knows that. She’s just trying to help you. She wants to make sure you are at the top of your health love.”
“Bur Dr. Standford told us that it’s good that I’m doing this. That I need to be on my feet and do something so I don’t just sit around and do nothing.”
“I know baby, I really do. But my mum had a hard time with me and you know she lost her first baby, she’s just worried.”
“I know.”
“How about this. I promise that after this baby is born you can go back to school okay?”
Harry nodded at the compromise and curled into Draco’s embrace, yawning as he did so. They sat on the couch and slowly drifted off to sleep.
~~~~~~
Eight months, Draco thought as he watched his husband sleep next to him, he’s eight months pregnant. Draco smiled to himself and rested his head on the bulge. Fingers found the blond hair, telling Draco that his husband was awake.
“Good morning.”
“Good morning.”
“What did the doctor say?” Draco asked; he had missed Harry’s appointment yesterday because work had called.
“That can wait. What did work want?”
“Nothing.”
“Liar, you were tense when you came to bed last night.”
“It was something stupid and petty. They didn’t even need me.”
“Then why did it take so long?”
“Because I yelled at them. Told them that they needed to learn how to take control of things for themselves and that if they hopped to still work there when I came back they’d learn how to grow up. Now, enough about work, what did the doctor say?” Draco shifted to rest on his arm, looking down at Harry, who rolled onto his back, hands on his belly.
He sighed, “Standford said that I could go into labor anytime.”
“Anytime?”
A nod.
“No due date?”
“He said that the due date is May 6th but he does not believe that the baby will be born that day. I’m hoping the baby will be born on the 23rd.”
“Of May?”
Another nod.
“Why?”
“It’s my mother’s birthday.”
Draco smiled, “Then I hope the baby is born that day too.”
Harry smiled at him.
“How long is May 23rd?”
“9 months. The 17th is the 9 month mark.”
“My mother’s birthday is the 31st, so she’ll be thrilled if the baby was born so close to her birthday.”
“So we are both shooting for the 23rd?”
“We’re both shooting for the 23rd.”
He bit his lip, “Standford also said that we can have the baby two ways. Wait until the baby is ready to be born naturally or I can have a C-Section type thing and we can choose the day the baby is born. With male-pregnancy the doctor says that the ‘C-Section’ is less painful and there are fewer problems that way. I didn’t say yes or no to either of them. I wanted to talk to you before I did.”
Draco stared at Harry, who looked back up at him, “Which do you prefer?”
“Well, the doctor said that when I have the baby naturally, the magic that makes the change happen can and most likely will effect the baby in someway. The ‘C-Section’ is done with a cut and I’m numbed for it. I would prefer to have the section.”
“Then have that on 23rd.”
“Are you sure?”
“Love, I only want the best for you.” He kissed Harry softly and they agreed on the day for the baby.
~~~~~~ May 23rd ~~~~~~
Harry took a deep breath in and then out and continued to walk back and forth down the hallway. Draco watched him, slightly amused. They were waiting for a Dr. Higgs to come and get them. Draco smiled and checked to make sure he had everything he needed, including the phone type thing that Fred and George had invented. Everyone in their group – Lucius, Narcissa, Millicent, Vince, Pansy, Neville, Luna, Oliver, Fred, Lee, George, Katie, Blaise, Greg, Remus, Severus and Albus – all got one just for things like this or other emergencies. Draco had promised to call everyone when the baby was born, his parents, Remus and Severus first.
“Mr.Potter?” a soft voice broke Draco out of his musing as a woman, hair pulled back into a knot at her neck, walked down the hallway, holding a folder. She smiled at the two of them as Draco stood quickly to stand next to his husband, running an arm around his waist.
“That’s me.”
“Hi, I’m Dr. Cardew. It’s wonderful to meet you.”
Harry adjusted his glasses and stared at the woman in front of them, “Hello Doctor, what can we do for you?”
“Oh, so sorry. Anyway, Dr. Higgs is currently very busy and will not be able to meet with the two of you until tomorrow morning so, if you really want this done today, I can do it for you.”
“We were told by our doctor that Higgs was a specialist flown in just for us,” Draco said in his ‘Malfoy Voice’. The one that commanded attention and respect.
“Yes, well…” she faded off.
“Where is Dr. Higgs?” it was not a question, it was a demand and Dr. Cardew had the decency to look embarrassed.
“He took one look at who it was and left the building. We have not been able to find him anywhere since.”
“What’s his first name?” Harry asked.
“Pardon?”
“What is his first name?” he repeated.
“Oh, Terence.”
Harry smacked Draco upside the head, “I really hate you sometimes.”
“You don’t hate me.”
“You wanna bet?”
The proceeded to glare at each other before Draco kissed Harry softly, “You could never hate me.”
“I hate it when you’re right.”
Cardew watched them interact and smiled, choosing this time to cut in, “Now, I know you two expected Dr. Higgs and it is very embarrassing to the hospital for him to turn and pretty much run out of here but I have done this exact procedure on women too many times to count plus on one man before, I’m positive everything will run smoothly.”
The two glanced at each other, talking though eyes before Harry nodded and Cardew smiled, “Alright if you’ll just follow me.”
She led them down the hallway and into a large room with three nurses in it, setting up. They introduced themselves to Harry and Draco grabbed Cardew’s arm. He spoke in a deadly voice, “If anything happens to him or the baby, I will personally make sure your career is ruined and that you cease to exist. You do not want to know what kind of contacts I have in high places.”
Wide eyes stared at him, “Yes, sir.”
Draco dropped her arm and moved towards his husband, who was vanishing into the bathroom with a nightgown. He smiled at Harry, who smiled back, and the two wandered into the bathroom only to exit a few moments later. Draco helped the round man onto the bed then grabbed his hand and kissed it.
Cardew stepped up to the two and started to speak, “Alright Harry, I’m going to put a numbing spell on you from the top of your stomach downward so you won’t feel a thing. The only spells that will be spoken in this room are the numbing one, the one to make the actual cut and the one to seal the cut up. Everything else will be done by hand. The numbing spell will make you tired plus the magic that the baby resides in will be gone from your body so you will fall asleep about twenty minutes after everything is finished. Okay?”
The green eyed man nodded and Cardew rolled up her sleeves, slipped on gloves and got to work, starting with the numbing spell
Lucius Malfoy sat at his desk at the Ministry, kind of listening to the man in front of him go on and on about something or the other. He drummed his fingers against his leg and nodded once again. Suddenly, a loud ring filled the air and the man stopped talking, looking annoyed while Lucius looked confused, then something dawned on him.
“What’s today’s date?” he asked, reaching down to grab the phone type thing from his robe pocket.
The man wiggled his nose and looked down the large thing at Lucius, who just raised an eyebrow and waited.
“Today is May 23rd.”
Gray eyes widened, “Seriously?”
“Yes,” the man said and rolled his eyes. Lucius grinned and turned his back to the man, standing as he did so. He answered the phone.
“Hello Draco.”
His son’s voice came across the line, “She’s gorgeous.” He seemed to be in a bit of a shock.
“She?”
“Yeah, she. Oh Merlin dad, she already has his eyes.”
The man stared at Lucius as another smiled crossed his face, this one lingering. “What is her name Draco?”
“Italia, Italia Faith. We haven’t decided which last name shall come first yet.”
“And Harry?”
“Sleeping. He smiled at me, at her, told me her name and fell asleep. The doctor said that he needs to regain his magic from holding her so she said to let him sleep.”
“Tell me about my granddaughter.”
“Oh, five pounds, eight ounces, 18 inches long. Ten perfect fingers, ten perfect toes. Blonde hair and emerald eyes.”
“Call your mother Draco. She’s been waiting for your phone call all day. I shall talk to you later. Congratulations my son.”
“Thanks dad. Bye.”
“Goodbye Draco.” Lucius hung up the phone and turned back to the man waiting for him. “I am sorry about that. That was my son calling to tell me that I am the proud grandfather to a beautiful baby girl by the name of Italia Faith.”
“Congratulations Mr.Malfoy, now can we finish?”
“Of course, go on.” The elder Malfoy took his seat and went back to ‘listening’ to the man speak.
~`~
Draco called his mother next, telling her the exact same thing as he had told his father the dialed Severus, even though he was in the middle of a class.
~`~
Severus was muttering to himself as he graded papers from his fourth year class. Sitting in the desks were his seventh years and every single one jumped at least a foot in the air when his emergency phone started to ring a god awful tune. Sneering at his students he told them to get back to work and excused himself to answer the damn thing.
“Yes?”
“That’s not a very nice way to answer the phone, especially after what I just went though Sev.” Harry’s voice floated over the phone and Snape could hear him grinning.
“What do you want Potter?”
“Don’t you want to know anything about your granddaughter?” he asked, then spoke again, but not to Sev. “Grandpa Sev is a cranky man, yes he is beautiful.”
Snape heard laughter in the background as he went over the words in his head, “Granddaughter?”
“Yes, granddaughter by the name of Italia Faith. She’s beautiful Sev, small, but beautiful. She has my eyes and the blondest of blonde hair. She’s around 18 inches long and is five pounds, eight ounces. The perfect little baby. I’ll be sure to send you a picture as soon as possible.”
“You two really want me to be her grandfather?”
“Who else would we want? Severus, you’ve been in my life when I needed it most. Of course we want you to be Italia’s grandfather and if we have anymore children, you’ll be their grandfather too. Now, I have to call others too. Bye Sev.”
“Bye Harry.”
Snape closed the phone and let a small smile cross his face as he walked out into the classroom. His students stared at him in shock and he glared at them, “I have every right to smile right now you idiots. I have a granddaughter as of today. Her name is Italia. Now get back to work!”
~`~
The two continued to call people, including Pansy, who was at work but screamed just the same before she announced to everyone that would listen that she was an aunt. Millicent was similar, as was Blaise. All three girls were overly excited about having a niece to dot on. Neville, Greg and Vince were different; they all wished Harry and Draco congratulations and asked her name before they hung up. Oliver was in the middle of a game when his rung but he answered it and told his team that he had a new niece to spoil before handing the phone to Luna, who wished the two the best of health and told them she was happy for them. Remus, who was called close to the end so he would be sitting in the Great Hall for dinner, announced to everyone that he was a grandfather and the applause was heard all the way back to the two newest parents. They called Fred next.
~`~
Fred laughed and slid an arm around Lee as he sat back on his mother’s couch. It was Weasley Dinner Night and this was the first one in a while that Fred, George, Lee and Katie had been able to make. All four wished they could have gone with Harry and Draco to the hospital like planned but Molly had asked them to be there tonight and Harry had insisted that they go. All four had their phone’s on as loud as they could go and when Fred’s went off the whole room went silent and George, Katie and Lee all looked at him in anticipation.
“Hello?”
“Hey,” Draco said.
“Finally! It only took you forever to call us you idiot. How is everything?”
“Good.”
Fred rolled his eyes, “I’m glad now what about..?”
“Oh right the baby, ouch Harry that hurt, I’m getting there, I’m getting there. It’s a girl.”
“A girl?!” Fred asked again, shocked. Katie made a happy noise and clapped, smiling.
“Yep. Her name is Italia Faith. Five pounds, eight ounces. 18 inches long. She has Harry’s eyes already and is the blondest of blondes.”
“Italia Faith hmm. That’s an interesting name. I suppose it’s just like yours then isn’t it? And she seems to be a perfect mixture of both of you.”
“Yeah, we wanted a name that was different then most and well, Italia fit. She is a perfect mixture of both of us. Merlin Fred, she’s so pretty.”
“She’ll probably break a few hearts along the way. Let’s just hope she does it a bit differently then you did.” He laughed.
“Ha ha ha. Very funny Weasley.”
“I know I am aren’t I? Well D, its Family Dinner night and you don’t have to call George, Katie or Lee cause they all know now. I better go; family is lookin’ at me weird. Give everyone our love and we shall all come to visit tomorrow. Bye D.”
“Bye Fred, have a good rest of the night.”
Fred hung up the phone and turned to his twin, Katie and Lee. “Italia Faith. Five pounds, eight ounces and she’s 18 inches long. Got her daddy’s eyes already.”
“She sound’s beautiful. You told them we would go and visit tomorrow didn’t you?” Katie asked.
Fred nodded and sat back on the couch, not telling his family anything about the mysterious baby girl, Italia Faith. They would figure it out soon enough.
~`~
Back at the hospital Harry and Draco stood over their baby and watched her sleep.
“I’m so happy I’m with you Draco.”
“Same here love same here.”
For the third time in a week, Draco Malfoy opened his eyes, ears and nose to the sound of his husband of a year, puking his guts out once again. Sliding from the warm bed Draco padded his way into the bathroom and knelt down next to Harry, who groaned and rested his head on the side of the toilet, staring up at Draco.
“I feel like shit.”
“I figured.”
Harry sniffled and pulled his head out of the bowl of the gross toilet, flushing it all down. He slumped against the wall and let the tears fall, “Why do I feel so bad Dray?”
“Oh baby,” Draco slid forward and sat on the floor next to his crying angel, he pulled the smaller man onto his lap and hugged him tightly. “I don’t know why you feel so bad. Maybe you have the flu?”
“I don’t think it’s the flu!” Harry whined, wiping his tears away, only to have more drip down his cheeks. “I hate being sick.”
“Everyone hates being sick.”
“I haven’t been this sick in a long time though!”
“What do you want me to do baby? Want me to call Poppy?”
“No. I have an appointment later today. After my lunch with everyone. Can you make it?”
Draco shook his head, “No, not this time.”
“Draco, ever since you started going up in the Ministry you never have time for anything anymore. Millie is getting mad at you and Greg told me to tell you that if you miss another lunch he was going to beat you up. Of course he asked my permission first and I gave it to him. Pansy just said that you know what she will do to you. Blaise said nothing. I swear sometimes she bugs the hell out of me.”
“I’m sorry babes and tell the rest the same but you know I have this huge thing I’m working on. And we have that dinner with my mum tonight remember?”
“Oh yeah...”
“I can always cancel if you want me to my love.”
“No, no. I’ll be okay.”
“If you insist,” Draco said. He then slid an arm under his husband’s legs and raised the two of them off the ground. Harry smiled and wrapped his arms around the taller mans neck. He hated his height but he loved the fact that Draco could hold him so easily. The blond set him in bed and pulled the covers up to his chin. He smiled at the small man and kissed him softly.
“You’re adorable.”
Harry grinned up at him and Draco sat down next to him. “I’ll call you to wake you up okay?”
Harry nodded and rolled over onto his side, burrowing into the covers. He felt a soft hand on his back and his eyes drifted close as he felt Draco stand from the bed and make his way into the bathroom to get ready for work.
It was a few hours that Harry faintly heard the phone on his side of the bed ring before Draco’s voice filled the large room.
“Wake up sleepy head. Time to get up baby. Harry.... get up, love.”
The man in question rolled over and slapped the speaker button on the phone, “Hi.”
“Hi, baby. Feel better?”
“Yeah.”
“That’s great babes. Now it’s time for you to get your ass out of bed and into the shower for your lunch.”
“I know.” Harry kicked the covers off of himself and swung his legs to the side of the bed, his feet touching the ground. He stood from the bed and moved towards the wardrobe.
“We need a shorter bed,” he said as he opened the doors to the cabinet.
“Aww, having trouble getting out of bed?”
“Draco, shut up while you’re ahead. And no, I didn’t have trouble getting out of bed. I’m just sick of having to almost jump to get on it. And if you make a height joke I swear to you, you won’t be allowed to so much touch me for two weeks.”
He could hear Draco pout into the phone, “That’s not fair.”
“Life isn’t fair my love. Well I have to go. Love you.” He wandered back to the phone as Draco was saying bye and giving his love. The small man smiled at this lover and moved to the radio, turning it on and up.
It was a half an hour later when the music was turned down and Harry pulled on his coat to leave their apartment. He wandered down the stairs and outside into the old air, walking down the sidewalk. Turning the corner he smiled at the sight in front of him.
Pansy sat at the table they had claimed years ago, a book in front of her along with coffee. Harry slowly walked up to her and pulled out the chair next to the woman he had come to think was a sister.
Without even looking up from her book she greeted him, “Hello darling.”
“Hi.”
“No better half today?”
“Nope.”
“What is it this time?”
“Huge client.”
“Wasn’t that what it was last time?”
“Yeah...” Harry trailed off.
“Is everything okay?”
“Yeah... I think.”
“I’m always here if you need to talk okay.”
“Thanks Pans.”
“WHY HELLO YOU TWO!” Millicent bounced up to the table, Vince close behind. They were still going strong for being together since sixth year. Blaise and Greg followed closely. They all sat down and started to chat when Neville ran up to the table and plopped himself down into the chair next to his girlfriend. He grinned at them all, placed a kiss on Pansy’s cheek and ordered a coffee from the waiter that was wandering around before dropping his arm behind the black haired girls’ chair. Millicent was the first one to notice Harry’s fatigue.
“Darling, you look weary.”
Pansy turned, “You do! Are you alright?! Waiter! Water please!”
“I’m fine! I have an appointment with Dr.Standford later today.”
“Oh, is that that really nice doctor that helped us with injuries after the war?” Neville asked, glancing at his best friend.
Harry nodded, smiling slightly, “Yeah. Draco and I always go to him now. He’s the only one we both really trust, besides Poppy of course.”
“How is she by the way?” Vince asked, ordering another drink.
“Wonderful. She’s excited about being able to retire finally. She wouldn’t tell me who is taking over though.”
Their food came and the conversation drifted to work and as Harry was the only one who didn’t (Draco wouldn’t let him (they had gotten in a huge fight about it)) he couldn’t really drift into the chat. It was a few hours later when Harry glanced at his watch and stood from the table, “I got to go guys. I’ll call you later okay Pans?”
She nodded and he wandered down the street before he shoved his hand out with his wand hidden and the giant purple bus bounced down the street.
“Welcome to the Knight Bus. Anywhere you wanna do just tell us and we’ll take ya!” Stan opened his eyes and smiled widely, “Heya Harry!”
“Hi Stan, How are you?”
“I’m great! How are ya?”
“Good good. Can you take me to Dr.Standford’s Office please?”
“Sure thing Harry. Five sickles please!” He held out his hand and Harry gave him the money before he plopped down into one of the chairs and the bus was off again, stopping at the Leaky Cauldron before heading to Dr.Standford’s office. He hopped off the bus, waved to Stan and Ernie and wandered inside.
“Good Afternoon Mr. Potter. Just sign in please,” Lynette smiled at him and gestured to the clipboard on the counter next to her.
He flashed her a charming smile and wrote his name on the line, “How are you Lynette?”
“I’m wonderful. How are you?”
“Sick.”
“Aww you poor little thing. Dr.Standford shall be with you in a few, darling, just take a seat.”
Harry complied, sitting down on a fluffy couch. He reached over and picked up a magazine about Child Birth and was looking confusedly at one of the pictures when a deep laugh caused him to look over the magazine. Dr. Geoffrey Standford stood in the doorway, leaning against the frame. His chocolate eyes twinkled with amusement and he had more gray hair then the last time Harry had seen him, mixed into the chocolate colored hair.
“Going to have a sex change Harry?”
Harry laughed, “Oh yes and Draco would be so happy with me for that.”
Geoff smiled and winked, gesturing Harry towards the back room with his head as the door opened and laughter floated in. Lynette jumped up and ran from behind her desk, “Ladies! You are not expected until next week!”
“We came to see our sister!” Voices floated over Geoff and Harry as the taller doctor shoved him towards one of the rooms.
“I’ll be right back.” His anger was evident in his eyes and his voice and Harry watched as he spun on his heal to stalk down the hallway.
“I told you NO visitors! I don’t know why I even hired you!” Geoff’s voice floated down the hallway and a woman stepped out of the doctor’s lounge with long brown hair and honey eyes, a face Harry would know anywhere.
Hermione rolled her eyes at Geoff and turned around to face him. “You hired me because I’m good at what I do.” She spoke in a snotty voice and looked down upon the older doctor.
His eyes narrowed and he glared back, “I didn’t have to hire you Granger and I can fire you in a matter of minutes. Get your fucking family out of here and if you don’t you’ll be gone before you can open your mouth.” She rolled her eyes, nodded and walked past the room Harry was in, currently wishing he had called Draco before he left the restaurant.
Geoff glared at her back and walked back down the hallway and into Harry’s room. “I’m sorry about that. I personally can not wait until she leaves. I honestly don’t know why I hired her in the first place. I couldn’t stand her when I met her all those years ago why did I think I could stand her now?”
“I dunno?”
“I’m sorry Harry,” he hit the table, “Plop right up here for me and we can start this thing for you.” Harry smiled sympathetically and plopped up on table, “Now, tell me why you’re here.”
“Well, I’m sick of waking up sick.”
“Meaning?”
“Every morning I wake up and run to bathroom to get sick. I’m tired easier and faster and eating more. I feel fatter than normal too.”
Geoff smiled and rose an eyebrow, “Okay. Let’s start. Up!” Harry jumped down and stood straight up. Geoff tapped his wand on the shorter mans head and muttered a spell, “5’4”.” He did it once again, “97 lbs. You are very skinny for your age Harry.”
“I can never seem to take in more than a small amount of food. Believe me Narcissa, Draco and Pansy all try to feed me more but I can never finish it.”
“You said you were malnourished as a child?”
He nodded.
“And locked in a cupboard?”
He nodded again.
“That’s probably why you can’t grow anymore or take any anything besides a certain amount of food. So I wouldn’t worry about that too much.” A knock interrupted the speech and Geoff rolled his eyes, “Yes? Can’t you see I’m busy?”
Hermione’s voice floated though the door, “You have a firecall.”
“Tell them I’m with a patient.”
“It’s your wife.” The older man rolled his eyes again and glanced at Harry, who smiled and nodded telling Geoff to go take the call. The door opened and Hermione was still standing there, looking bored. She looked over the tall mans shoulder and shock overcame her features as she leaned in the doorway.
“Harry.” It was the only word that he had heard her speak without annoyance in it. He stared straight at her, then, with the hand with his wedding ring on it, ran a hand though his hair. She blinked and her eyes got wide. “You got married.”
“Yes, I did.”
“When?”
“Christmas’s after we left school.”
“Wow.”
He blinked and stared at her. She cleared her throat, “I’m shocked I didn’t hear about it.”
“No one did, at least not until after we were married. There were a total of seventeen people there, including myself and Draco. Then Lucius forbade the papers to print it.”
“Who was there?”
“Albus, who preformed it, Remus, who gave me away, Neville stood by me, Pansy by Draco, Millicent, Vincent, Gregory, Blaise, Severus, Lucius, Narcissa, Fred, Lee, George and Katie. Oh and Oliver and Luna, so that makes nineteen. Sorry.”
“The twins were there?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Ask them.” He started to fiddle with his ring as Geoff walked back into the room.
“Your presence is not needed anymore Hermione.” She nodded and left the room. Geoff closed the door and looked back at Harry, shocked. Harry stared at the door and Geoff shrugged, letting the small man get lost in his thoughts as he went though the small steps of the exam. He waved a hand in front of Harry’s face and told him to lie back onto the table then to relax as best as he could.
“I think I know what is wrong with you but I just want to make sure okay? So I’m going to do the spell now. It shouldn’t do anything more than tingle. Tell me if you feel warmth,” Geoff explained and Harry nodded, watching as Standford muttered a spell over his belly. Immediately warmth filled him and he closed his eyes in content. “Let me guess. It’s warm?”
A nod from the emerald eyed man and open eyes.
“Well than, let me be the first to wish you a congratulations. You’re going to have a baby.”
“What!? How?!” He asked, shocked. Geoff looked confused and Harry sighed, “I grew up in the muggle world.”
“Oh yeah! Sorry Harry. I forgot. Let me explain it to you. Powerful gay males who want children are able to conceive. If you were to ask any of your friends from Hogwarts I can almost guarantee that at least one of them was a result of a same sex couple. Also, if the couple isn’t naturally powerful, there are tons of potions people can take. It’s just like a normal pregnancy.”
Harry sat up slowly and stared at his stomach, resting his hands on top before letting the amazement take him over. “I am, really?”
Standford smiled. “Yeah, you are. Now, I want to see you again in two months okay? You can bring Draco if you like. Take it easy, you don’t want to harm the baby. Not a lot of caffeine or magic. Male pregnancy’s last from 8 to 11 months long, depending on the person. When you come in, in two months we will be able to tell. Yes, you can have sex until the day the baby is born. Your appetite shall increase and you will gain weight. Depending on how long your pregnancy is I might put you on bed rest for the last month considering your size okay? Is that understandable?” A nod of shocked amazement, “And I’ll give you something to help with the morning sickness. Talk with the woman in your life that have had children and be sure to tell Draco. He’ll be able to tell soon if you don’t.” Geoff handed Harry his coat, which was on the chair and three bottles of an orange potion, “One sip before bed every night. If it doesn’t help tell me, I have some other kinds.”
“Thank you Doctor.”
“Harry?”
Green eyes met brown, “Be safe okay?”
A nod and black hair went flying before Harry vanished out of the room and Geoff leaned against the table.
~`~
Walking the street to their apartment Harry checked the time. It five after five, Draco should be home. He crossed his arms over his chest and shivered in the cold. Wandering down the street a bit further he opened the door to their building and started up the steps, thinking of a way to tell Draco about the baby. He opened the door and was instantly embraced in a large hug that lifted him off the ground.
“Harry! Where were you? You were supposed to be home at three and I’ve already been home an hour! I’ve been worried sick about you my love. Are you alright?”
Harry looked up at Draco and kissed him hard, “I love you, you know that?”
“Of course I know it. I love you too.”
The ex-seeker was silent for a moment, looking down at his feet and Draco watched, scared, “A lot?”
“More than anything and with every fiber of my being.”
Harry looked up at Draco and the silver eyed man saw excitement, amazement and nervousness in the emerald orbs, “I found out why I’ve been getting sick.”
“And?”
“Well, it’ll go away soon but the effects will last forever.”
“Harry.”
“Can we not go to your parents tonight?” He looked up at his husband from behind his hair, green eyes pleading.
Draco nodded, even more scared now. He snapped and their house elf appeared, “Tell my parents that we will not be joining them for dinner because Harry does not feel well and that I have a headache.”
The elf nodded and vanished with a pop.
“Love, what is it?” Draco asked softly.
“We are going to be parents.” It was whispered.
Draco blinked, “What?”
“You heard me. We are going to have a baby. With your hair and my eyes and ten perfect fingers and ten perfect toes.”
Astonished happiness flew off of the blond in waves, “Really?”
A smile covered Harry’s lips, “Really.” He said it while nodding.
Draco stared at Harry in shock as emerald eyes stared up at him. Draco let a smile cover his lips and he slowly dropped to his knees in front of his husband and set his ear on Harry’s stomach, “Wow.” Harry ran his figures though the blond hair and they stood like that for a long time, in peaceful silence. The house-elf came back with Narcissa’s message yet they still stood the same way they were. The blond stood suddenly and pulled the black haired man down the hallway and to their room. A gasp filled the air as Harry was set on the bed softly.
“I’m pregnant, not incapable Draco.”
“Shush love.” He pulled up Harry’s shirt and placed a kiss on his belly. Harry smiled as he watched his lover rest his blond head on his tan stomach. Draco’s eyes were closed in complete contentment that Harry felt floating off of him in heavy waves. Draco sat up suddenly and yanked off his shirt, tossing it to land on the chair next to the wall. He laid down again, his breath tickling Harry’s abdomen. Harry’s hands went to the blond hair and they sat in silence for a long time, both excited about the life they had created.
~~~~~~
It was two months later when both of the wizards went to see Standford once again. The door to the office opened, letting in the cold air and Harry entered the building closely followed by Draco. It was November and winter seemed to be coming early this year. They untangled themselves from their scarves and gloves before Draco plopped down in a chair. Harry smiled at him and sat down next to his husband. Their hands joined and Harry leaned onto Draco.
“Well aren’t you two just the cutest little things.” Draco looked up at the voice and smiled at Lynette.
“Hello Lynette.”
“Hello Draco, Harry.”
“Hi Lynette.”
Lynette stood from her desk and wandered around to the front, leaning on it for support, “How are you two?”
“Currently relaxing. I’m off from work until I decide to go back –”
“And everything else is fine,” Harry cut Draco off, causing the ex-Slytherin to glare. Draco was the one to feel the eyes on them first and turned to look straight into the face of Ginny Weasley, who looked very pregnant. He glared at her shocked look and turned back to Harry, whose hands were now resting on his tummy without knowing it.
Harry felt Draco tense next to him, “What’s wrong?”
“The Littlest Weasley is here and she looks like she’s a balloon.”
“What?” Harry asked sharply and turned to see Ginny staring at the two of them. “Oh wow,” he whispered, “she does look like a balloon.” Suddenly fear filled his eyes, “Will I look like that?”
“Oh baby, probably not.”
“But what if?”
“No ‘what if’s. Even if you do get big I’ll never stop loving you and that’s all that matters.”
Harry looked up at him, “Promise?”
“I promise.” Draco smiled at him and Harry shifted off of his chair to sit on Draco, causing the older woman who had just walked in to coo at them. The door to the office opened and a familiar face poked her head out of it. Hannah looked around, smiled at Harry and Draco, before her eyes landed on Ginny.
“Ginny, Dr. Connor will see you now.” Ginny pushed herself out of the chair, using her arms to heave her round body up.
“Thanks Hannah.”
“Not a problem.” Hannah stepped to the side then closed to door after Ginny wobbled though. She walked swiftly to Harry and hugged him tightly, which Harry returned, before hugging Draco the best she could. “It’s so great to see you two again. Why are you here?”
“Promise not to tell?” Harry asked, smiling. He had always liked Hannah.
“Promise.”
“Well, we are going to be become parents.”
Hannah looked shocked before a wide grin covered her face, “Oh wow guys. That’s amazing for you two.” At that moment Geoff appeared in the doorway, smiling at the couple, who excused themselves from Hannah and followed the doctor back to his room.
“It seems quieter back here,” Harry commented, taking a seat on the table. Draco made himself comfortable on a chair, legs out in front of him and Standford sat on a stool.
“That’s because there is no more Hermione to deal with.”
Draco looked up at the mention of Hermione’s name, “Granger worked here?”
“Yeah but she got a better offer somewhere else.”
“Where?”
“She’s taking over for Poppy temporarily until Poppy can find a better Medi-Witch or Wizard to take over.”
“Didn’t you want to go to medical school at one point Harry?” Draco asked, glancing at the black haired small man.
“Yes, but family comes first.”
“You know Harry, it\'s very easy to have family come first and try to get a job at the same time, especially if you’re just going to be going to school. Plus, I think you’d be a great Medi-Wizard. I saw how you dealt with the kids who lost their parents during the war. I think you could major in pediatric,” Geoff said as he grabbed a small screen from a cabinet.
Harry blinked and looked at the doctor, “What do you mean?”
“Become a children’s doctor. You have enough patients to work with them and then you can go and take over from Hermione,” Geoff grinned, “Lay back.”
Draco stood and stepped over to the table, looking down at Harry as Standford lifted Harry’s sweater, “Didn’t you work with Poppy a bit during your sixth year?”
Harry nodded, “Yeah, and during the war like Geoff said.” A gasp came from his lips, “That is cold. What is it?” He lifted his head to see Geoff squirting a clear gel on his slightly round stomach.
“This will allow you to see and hear your baby plus it will allow me to make sure everything is running smoothly.” A smiled crossed the doctor’s face at the shocked looks; he always loved it when he had first time parents.
A whispered, “Wow.” And Standford watched as Harry reached for Draco’s hand without realizing it. They looked at each other and smiled before Draco kissed his lovers head.
“Ready?” Both nodded and Standford placed his wand on Harry’s stomach, whispering a spell as he did so. “Now, first we are going to hear just your heartbeat but as I move my wand, listen.” They listened as a slower heartbeat filled the air closely followed by a faster one. Geoff turned on the screen with a tap of his wand then showed the two their baby.
Harry sat up at this moment and pulled Draco with him to stare at the picture, his eyes wide, “I don’t see it.”
Standford laughed, “At this point your baby is still very small but if you look near the middle of the screen you’ll see an outline.”
Draco pointed at the outline, “There?”
Standford nodded, “Yep.”
They sat and stared at the outline for a long time.
Months later Harry stomped inside their apartment, slamming the door closed, causing Draco to look up.
“What’s wrong love?” Draco asked; scared because he knew what was wrong already.
“They found out!” he moaned and fell onto the couch next to Draco, leaning against him
“Oh.”
Harry turned his glaring eyes to his husband, “Who do we know that would have told them!?” Harry turned to the blond, “Draco. You didn’t tell them did you?”
“Why would I do that love? I know how much you want to do this but I do know who.”
“Who?” Harry asked, looking up into gray eyes.
“My mother.”
A brokenhearted look covered Harry’s face and he looked away as tears filled his eyes, “She knows how much I want to do this.”
Draco sighed, grabbed a tissue and pulled his round husband onto his lap, “I know that love,” he wiped the tears away, “and I know she knows that. She’s just trying to help you. She wants to make sure you are at the top of your health love.”
“Bur Dr. Standford told us that it’s good that I’m doing this. That I need to be on my feet and do something so I don’t just sit around and do nothing.”
“I know baby, I really do. But my mum had a hard time with me and you know she lost her first baby, she’s just worried.”
“I know.”
“How about this. I promise that after this baby is born you can go back to school okay?”
Harry nodded at the compromise and curled into Draco’s embrace, yawning as he did so. They sat on the couch and slowly drifted off to sleep.
~~~~~~
Eight months, Draco thought as he watched his husband sleep next to him, he’s eight months pregnant. Draco smiled to himself and rested his head on the bulge. Fingers found the blond hair, telling Draco that his husband was awake.
“Good morning.”
“Good morning.”
“What did the doctor say?” Draco asked; he had missed Harry’s appointment yesterday because work had called.
“That can wait. What did work want?”
“Nothing.”
“Liar, you were tense when you came to bed last night.”
“It was something stupid and petty. They didn’t even need me.”
“Then why did it take so long?”
“Because I yelled at them. Told them that they needed to learn how to take control of things for themselves and that if they hopped to still work there when I came back they’d learn how to grow up. Now, enough about work, what did the doctor say?” Draco shifted to rest on his arm, looking down at Harry, who rolled onto his back, hands on his belly.
He sighed, “Standford said that I could go into labor anytime.”
“Anytime?”
A nod.
“No due date?”
“He said that the due date is May 6th but he does not believe that the baby will be born that day. I’m hoping the baby will be born on the 23rd.”
“Of May?”
Another nod.
“Why?”
“It’s my mother’s birthday.”
Draco smiled, “Then I hope the baby is born that day too.”
Harry smiled at him.
“How long is May 23rd?”
“9 months. The 17th is the 9 month mark.”
“My mother’s birthday is the 31st, so she’ll be thrilled if the baby was born so close to her birthday.”
“So we are both shooting for the 23rd?”
“We’re both shooting for the 23rd.”
He bit his lip, “Standford also said that we can have the baby two ways. Wait until the baby is ready to be born naturally or I can have a C-Section type thing and we can choose the day the baby is born. With male-pregnancy the doctor says that the ‘C-Section’ is less painful and there are fewer problems that way. I didn’t say yes or no to either of them. I wanted to talk to you before I did.”
Draco stared at Harry, who looked back up at him, “Which do you prefer?”
“Well, the doctor said that when I have the baby naturally, the magic that makes the change happen can and most likely will effect the baby in someway. The ‘C-Section’ is done with a cut and I’m numbed for it. I would prefer to have the section.”
“Then have that on 23rd.”
“Are you sure?”
“Love, I only want the best for you.” He kissed Harry softly and they agreed on the day for the baby.
~~~~~~ May 23rd ~~~~~~
Harry took a deep breath in and then out and continued to walk back and forth down the hallway. Draco watched him, slightly amused. They were waiting for a Dr. Higgs to come and get them. Draco smiled and checked to make sure he had everything he needed, including the phone type thing that Fred and George had invented. Everyone in their group – Lucius, Narcissa, Millicent, Vince, Pansy, Neville, Luna, Oliver, Fred, Lee, George, Katie, Blaise, Greg, Remus, Severus and Albus – all got one just for things like this or other emergencies. Draco had promised to call everyone when the baby was born, his parents, Remus and Severus first.
“Mr.Potter?” a soft voice broke Draco out of his musing as a woman, hair pulled back into a knot at her neck, walked down the hallway, holding a folder. She smiled at the two of them as Draco stood quickly to stand next to his husband, running an arm around his waist.
“That’s me.”
“Hi, I’m Dr. Cardew. It’s wonderful to meet you.”
Harry adjusted his glasses and stared at the woman in front of them, “Hello Doctor, what can we do for you?”
“Oh, so sorry. Anyway, Dr. Higgs is currently very busy and will not be able to meet with the two of you until tomorrow morning so, if you really want this done today, I can do it for you.”
“We were told by our doctor that Higgs was a specialist flown in just for us,” Draco said in his ‘Malfoy Voice’. The one that commanded attention and respect.
“Yes, well…” she faded off.
“Where is Dr. Higgs?” it was not a question, it was a demand and Dr. Cardew had the decency to look embarrassed.
“He took one look at who it was and left the building. We have not been able to find him anywhere since.”
“What’s his first name?” Harry asked.
“Pardon?”
“What is his first name?” he repeated.
“Oh, Terence.”
Harry smacked Draco upside the head, “I really hate you sometimes.”
“You don’t hate me.”
“You wanna bet?”
The proceeded to glare at each other before Draco kissed Harry softly, “You could never hate me.”
“I hate it when you’re right.”
Cardew watched them interact and smiled, choosing this time to cut in, “Now, I know you two expected Dr. Higgs and it is very embarrassing to the hospital for him to turn and pretty much run out of here but I have done this exact procedure on women too many times to count plus on one man before, I’m positive everything will run smoothly.”
The two glanced at each other, talking though eyes before Harry nodded and Cardew smiled, “Alright if you’ll just follow me.”
She led them down the hallway and into a large room with three nurses in it, setting up. They introduced themselves to Harry and Draco grabbed Cardew’s arm. He spoke in a deadly voice, “If anything happens to him or the baby, I will personally make sure your career is ruined and that you cease to exist. You do not want to know what kind of contacts I have in high places.”
Wide eyes stared at him, “Yes, sir.”
Draco dropped her arm and moved towards his husband, who was vanishing into the bathroom with a nightgown. He smiled at Harry, who smiled back, and the two wandered into the bathroom only to exit a few moments later. Draco helped the round man onto the bed then grabbed his hand and kissed it.
Cardew stepped up to the two and started to speak, “Alright Harry, I’m going to put a numbing spell on you from the top of your stomach downward so you won’t feel a thing. The only spells that will be spoken in this room are the numbing one, the one to make the actual cut and the one to seal the cut up. Everything else will be done by hand. The numbing spell will make you tired plus the magic that the baby resides in will be gone from your body so you will fall asleep about twenty minutes after everything is finished. Okay?”
The green eyed man nodded and Cardew rolled up her sleeves, slipped on gloves and got to work, starting with the numbing spell

Lucius Malfoy sat at his desk at the Ministry, kind of listening to the man in front of him go on and on about something or the other. He drummed his fingers against his leg and nodded once again. Suddenly, a loud ring filled the air and the man stopped talking, looking annoyed while Lucius looked confused, then something dawned on him.
“What’s today’s date?” he asked, reaching down to grab the phone type thing from his robe pocket.
The man wiggled his nose and looked down the large thing at Lucius, who just raised an eyebrow and waited.
“Today is May 23rd.”
Gray eyes widened, “Seriously?”
“Yes,” the man said and rolled his eyes. Lucius grinned and turned his back to the man, standing as he did so. He answered the phone.
“Hello Draco.”
His son’s voice came across the line, “She’s gorgeous.” He seemed to be in a bit of a shock.
“She?”
“Yeah, she. Oh Merlin dad, she already has his eyes.”
The man stared at Lucius as another smiled crossed his face, this one lingering. “What is her name Draco?”
“Italia, Italia Faith. We haven’t decided which last name shall come first yet.”
“And Harry?”
“Sleeping. He smiled at me, at her, told me her name and fell asleep. The doctor said that he needs to regain his magic from holding her so she said to let him sleep.”
“Tell me about my granddaughter.”
“Oh, five pounds, eight ounces, 18 inches long. Ten perfect fingers, ten perfect toes. Blonde hair and emerald eyes.”
“Call your mother Draco. She’s been waiting for your phone call all day. I shall talk to you later. Congratulations my son.”
“Thanks dad. Bye.”
“Goodbye Draco.” Lucius hung up the phone and turned back to the man waiting for him. “I am sorry about that. That was my son calling to tell me that I am the proud grandfather to a beautiful baby girl by the name of Italia Faith.”
“Congratulations Mr.Malfoy, now can we finish?”
“Of course, go on.” The elder Malfoy took his seat and went back to ‘listening’ to the man speak.

Draco called his mother next, telling her the exact same thing as he had told his father the dialed Severus, even though he was in the middle of a class.
~`~
Severus was muttering to himself as he graded papers from his fourth year class. Sitting in the desks were his seventh years and every single one jumped at least a foot in the air when his emergency phone started to ring a god awful tune. Sneering at his students he told them to get back to work and excused himself to answer the damn thing.
“Yes?”
“That’s not a very nice way to answer the phone, especially after what I just went though Sev.” Harry’s voice floated over the phone and Snape could hear him grinning.
“What do you want Potter?”
“Don’t you want to know anything about your granddaughter?” he asked, then spoke again, but not to Sev. “Grandpa Sev is a cranky man, yes he is beautiful.”
Snape heard laughter in the background as he went over the words in his head, “Granddaughter?”
“Yes, granddaughter by the name of Italia Faith. She’s beautiful Sev, small, but beautiful. She has my eyes and the blondest of blonde hair. She’s around 18 inches long and is five pounds, eight ounces. The perfect little baby. I’ll be sure to send you a picture as soon as possible.”
“You two really want me to be her grandfather?”
“Who else would we want? Severus, you’ve been in my life when I needed it most. Of course we want you to be Italia’s grandfather and if we have anymore children, you’ll be their grandfather too. Now, I have to call others too. Bye Sev.”
“Bye Harry.”
Snape closed the phone and let a small smile cross his face as he walked out into the classroom. His students stared at him in shock and he glared at them, “I have every right to smile right now you idiots. I have a granddaughter as of today. Her name is Italia. Now get back to work!”
~`~
The two continued to call people, including Pansy, who was at work but screamed just the same before she announced to everyone that would listen that she was an aunt. Millicent was similar, as was Blaise. All three girls were overly excited about having a niece to dot on. Neville, Greg and Vince were different; they all wished Harry and Draco congratulations and asked her name before they hung up. Oliver was in the middle of a game when his rung but he answered it and told his team that he had a new niece to spoil before handing the phone to Luna, who wished the two the best of health and told them she was happy for them. Remus, who was called close to the end so he would be sitting in the Great Hall for dinner, announced to everyone that he was a grandfather and the applause was heard all the way back to the two newest parents. They called Fred next.
~`~
Fred laughed and slid an arm around Lee as he sat back on his mother’s couch. It was Weasley Dinner Night and this was the first one in a while that Fred, George, Lee and Katie had been able to make. All four wished they could have gone with Harry and Draco to the hospital like planned but Molly had asked them to be there tonight and Harry had insisted that they go. All four had their phone’s on as loud as they could go and when Fred’s went off the whole room went silent and George, Katie and Lee all looked at him in anticipation.
“Hello?”
“Hey,” Draco said.
“Finally! It only took you forever to call us you idiot. How is everything?”
“Good.”
Fred rolled his eyes, “I’m glad now what about..?”
“Oh right the baby, ouch Harry that hurt, I’m getting there, I’m getting there. It’s a girl.”
“A girl?!” Fred asked again, shocked. Katie made a happy noise and clapped, smiling.
“Yep. Her name is Italia Faith. Five pounds, eight ounces. 18 inches long. She has Harry’s eyes already and is the blondest of blondes.”
“Italia Faith hmm. That’s an interesting name. I suppose it’s just like yours then isn’t it? And she seems to be a perfect mixture of both of you.”
“Yeah, we wanted a name that was different then most and well, Italia fit. She is a perfect mixture of both of us. Merlin Fred, she’s so pretty.”
“She’ll probably break a few hearts along the way. Let’s just hope she does it a bit differently then you did.” He laughed.
“Ha ha ha. Very funny Weasley.”
“I know I am aren’t I? Well D, its Family Dinner night and you don’t have to call George, Katie or Lee cause they all know now. I better go; family is lookin’ at me weird. Give everyone our love and we shall all come to visit tomorrow. Bye D.”
“Bye Fred, have a good rest of the night.”
Fred hung up the phone and turned to his twin, Katie and Lee. “Italia Faith. Five pounds, eight ounces and she’s 18 inches long. Got her daddy’s eyes already.”
“She sound’s beautiful. You told them we would go and visit tomorrow didn’t you?” Katie asked.
Fred nodded and sat back on the couch, not telling his family anything about the mysterious baby girl, Italia Faith. They would figure it out soon enough.
~`~
Back at the hospital Harry and Draco stood over their baby and watched her sleep.
“I’m so happy I’m with you Draco.”
“Same here love same here.”
