Prologue
She was only sixteen when she first got a crush on the Potions Master that everyone feared and hated. Hermione Granger had been amongst the numbers of Hogwarts students who had learned the hard way that Professor Severus Snape was not a nice man. As time trod onward, she discovered that perhaps there was much more to the man than he allowed the world to see. She began to spend much of her time in potions class observing him and trying to understand him.
The continued regard only made him dislike her more. It had been bad enough to have to put up with her hand in the air all the time, but it was worse when the girl stared at him with those chocolate eyes of hers. Every time that he had potions with the Gryffindors, he was conscious of her eyes following him. Long training as a spy and as a Death Eater had made him aware of every single nuance around him.
Snape was able to ignore her for the most part, at least in the very beginning. He delighted in sending her one of his disdainful, frosty looks. It worked for a while. But as he began to be forced into contact with her through his work with the order, he noticed that his looks didn\'t turn her away any longer.
There were many times that he was strongly tempted to give her detention for annoying him, but he didn\'t. He didn\'t want to have to put up with her for additional hours where she had the chance to continue to stare at him.
If the truth were to be told, Snape had never really looked at Hermione Granger beyond the first year that she and her friends Weasley and Potter had been at Hogwarts. She\'d been small and thin with untamable hair and big front teeth that reminded Snape of a miniature rabbit. That mental picture of her remained with him far longer than it should have.
A big part of it had to do with her friends. He never missed a chance to refer to the three of them as the \"golden trio\" or \"the dream team\". He disliked all three, especially Harry Potter. If it hadn\'t been for his commitment to the order, and to bringing peace to the wizarding world, he would never have tolerated Potter and his friends. Such as it was, Snape had to be tolerant and continue to teach and spy. He endured the golden trio only because Albus Dumbledore, Headmaster and leader of the Order of the Phoenix, made him.
What really galled him was the fact that Albus allowed the three to join the order once they were all seventeen. That meant that Snape had to endure their input at Order meetings, except for those that Albus deemed to be too much for their young ears.
Such as it was Snape was overjoyed when Lord Voldemort was destroyed. The war ended, and that May there was a huge celebration at Hogwarts....................................
a/n Just a few things.....first, thank you to EVERYONE for the reviews on my stories. I really do appreciate them, and NO I am not abandoning my WIPS. I have been suffering from writers block and having recently lost a treasured friend, so it is slow recovering from that. Also, to the one reviewer that told me to \"get a beta\"---- any mistakes in grammar or weird spellings you see in my other 22 posted stories are NOT mine. The last time that AFFNET crashed, everyones stories were screwed up by the server resulting in the mistakes you see. Ayla promised to fix it, and it didn\'t happen. Currently I do not have the time involved to re edit the stories nor repost, but I did want to clarify it with you, the readers as I do not post garbled stories.
thanks!!
