A Werewolf's Child

Chapter 1

The weather seemed to mimic her emotions as she stared at the raging storm outside her window. It should have been one of the happiest days of her life, but her life was never normal. Valerie Waldron definitely wasn’t your average girl. In fact she was even strange among her peers. The other witches she attended school with were nothing like her, and she was nothing like them.

Valerie was about to enter her 7th year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. She should’ve been happy, right? Wrong. It was her 18th birthday. She was finally an adult, able to leave this house and get away from her foster parents.

She shivered remembering the conversation she had with her foster dad earlier. She didn’t even want to think about it, so she pushed it to the back of her mind trying to build a brick wall around it. Tomorrow she was supposed to go back to Hogwarts and she didn’t care if she had to hitchhike her way there she was going to get there whether they liked it or not.

They told her that she would not be allowed to attend Hogwarts that year because they didn’t want to pay for it. Well they had another thing coming if they thought her parents had left her nothing when they died. She didn’t really know that much about her parents except they were powerful, and Voldemort had killed them. No one was willing to tell her anymore about them and she wasn’t worried about it at the moment.

She stuffed her last book in the trunks and stared at her cat who was curled up unknowing on the flowery comforter on her bed. It wasn’t her bed anymore, she was leaving and she didn’t care if she had to use magic they weren’t going to stop her. “Cornelius.” She hissed at the cat that lifted its black head. He was all black with green eyes just like her. She remembered the day she had bought him as a kitten.

He was her only friend, the only person she trusted. “I know you hate the rain, but I need you to do me a favor.” He looked at her and let out a pitiful meow. It was like he understood her, and she was sure he did. He was a familiar and they usually understood human speech. “I need you to take this to Ms. Figg. Can you do that?” He hissed lightly before nodding his head and taking the scroll in his mouth.

He ran over to the window and scratched at it looking back at her with curious eyes. She smiled lightly before pushing open the window. Cornelius looked at the rain hissing lightly before jumping onto a lone tree branch. She watched him climb down the tall tree before landing on the soft grass. He looked up at her and meowed once before heading down the street.

The smile quickly fell from her face when a loud voice came from outside her door followed by banging. “Listen here you little witch. You open this door right now, or you’re out of this house for good. Do you understand?” Even when he was drunk he was capable of coherent speech. It amazed her, but she didn’t have time to worry about it.

She grabbed her trunk and slapped a backpack onto her back. She had her wand in her coat pocket ready incase she needed it. She prayed she didn’t because if she used magic on muggles she was screwed when it came to Hogwarts.

Taking a deep breath she pulled the door open and stared at the man who barely towered over her. She was almost six foot herself and this man was barely over that, but he outweighed her by at least a hundred pounds. Don’t start thinking he was over weight or anything. Frank was a retired cop, and made sure to work out everyday.

“Val, baby girl.” He smirked licking his lips lightly and she cringed. It disgusted her just trying to analyze what was going through this man’s mind. “Get out of my way Frank. I’m leaving.” She hissed, but her voice shook slightly betraying her. His mouth thinned into a straight line and he narrowed his dark eyes at her.

She hadn’t expected it, so when he grabbed a handful of her black curls she let out a small gasp of pain. She reached for her wand and she winced in pain. He tightened his grip on her hair before sending her flying backwards into a wall. Her head slammed into the wall and she fought to keep her thoughts straight. She reached up to brush her hair out of her face and came back with a hand covered in blood.

“Who do you think you are? You little witch. Think you can tell me what to do. I think you need to learn how to act around your superiors.” He growled at her before raising a fist to hit her. She was to busy staring at the blood on her hand to expect the blow.

His knuckles slammed hard and fast into her jaw and eye before he grabbed around her throat. He lifted her up off the ground and she fought for air, but nothing happened. The air wouldn’t come into her lungs. Her eyes widened when she realized exactly how far he was planning to go. “So young and firm…” He muttered running his lips over her jaw.

She winced and knew she wouldn’t be able to speak even if she could get off a spell. She brought her legs up to her chest and shot out as hard as she could, sending him flying back a few feet. She looked at the trunk for a moment before running out the door. She’d get it later if she had to. There was no way he’d be able to harm her belongings there was an impervious charm on the trunk.

She was halfway down the stairs when a hand connected with her back. She tried to grab something, anything to keep from falling, but all she heard was a cold laugh before her body hit the steps one by one. She pushed her body up as quickly as possible ignoring the pain in her ankle and slammed the door against the wall as she tried to get away.

She didn’t care if it brought down the entire house she wasn’t going to stay here and let him get away with that. She looked back and saw him standing in the doorway glaring at her. She looked like a deer caught in headlights and the second he took a step towards her she turned and ran. She didn’t care that her ankle was rapidly swelling up, or the blood running down her face.

She had to get to Ms. Figgs, and soon. She was only a house away and she couldn’t hear him behind her. She was sure he stayed at the house because he didn’t want to make a scene especially in a neighborhood like this. She looked around at all the little picket fences and winced wondering exactly how many children were being treated just like her at the moment.

She was ready to knock on the door when a fist connected with the back of her head sending her flying face first into the door. Ms. Figg must’ve heard it because the door burst open a moment after and she pulled the girl inside as she glared at the man behind her. “What do you think you’re doing old woman?” The man growled at her as he tried to push into the house.

“Sir I would suggest you step away immediately.” A voice said behind the man causing him to freeze. He turned around slowly and glared at the man standing in front of him. It was an old man dressed in long blue robes with a long white beard and hair.

“And what are you going to do old man?” He said with a cold laugh stepping towards him. Frank crossed his arms over his chest and glared at the taller man with a smug smirk. “Nothing.” He said just as several loud pops were heard. Frank shot around staring at several people who all had their wands drawn.

“Frank Turngton, as a muggle-born wizard, you are liable under wizarding laws. You are under arrest for assault on a student of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. You’re hearing will be scheduled at a later date, please come with us.” The aurors said taking a step towards the man who immediately backed up.

“This is an outrage. I was expelled and sent to the muggle world, you can’t do anything to me.” He said with a smug smirk on his face, but his eyes were wide and he was looking between the auror and his wand. “I assure you we can and will punish you to the full extent of the law. Will you come with us easily, or do we have to do this the hard way?” The man asked. He was old and missing a large chunk of his nose.

He started to back away again, but stopped knowing he wouldn’t get very far. “Fine, but the little witch deserves everything she got. It would’ve been good to get a nice bit of pussy before, but I guess that’s not going to happen.” He hissed letting the man magically bind him. He looked at the old wizard with a smirk before shooting a kiss at Arabella who wrinkled her nose.

They disapparated before Albus and Arabella’s eyes. They looked at each other for a moment before Albus took a few steps forward into the house. “I will send someone to retrieve her things.” Albus said heading towards the fire place when he noticed the state the girl was in. “And I’ll call for Poppy and Severus.” Her clothes were ripped, she had blood drying on her face, and half of her face was starting to swell up.

Those were the only wounds he could see, but he was sure there were others. He headed towards the fireplace before stepping into the floo he took one last look at the girl before sighing. “Hogwarts.” He disappeared with a puff of green smoke before appearing in his office at Hogwarts.

Arabella sat across from the girl on the couch and noticed the small black cat curled up in the girl’s lap. “Cornelius is a wonderful cat.” Arabella said trying to lighten the mood, but there wasn’t anything she could say to stop the pain in the girl’s heart. She had been betrayed by someone she trusted to ensure her protection. The ministry sent her there to protect her, and now look what happened.

“Yes he is. He doesn’t like the rain though.” The girl said quietly before wincing. Speaking made her jaw hurt and Arabella stared at her in shock. For her to be talking with a jaw like that, it just had to be painful.

“Don’t talk Valerie. I’m going to go get us some tea while we wait for Poppy.” She said standing up patting the girl gently on the arm as she walked out of the room. The room was painted a pink color and was covered in flowers making Valerie cringe to herself. There were two couches and a coffee table in between them, and a couple cats for decoration.

“Never trust anyone Cornelius. They only hurt you in the end.” She didn’t want to admit it, but she had trusted Frank and Amelia. Her foster parents were there and the ministry said it was for her protection. Why couldn’t she live with a wizarding family? They said it was safer with muggles, no one would suspect it. Was that why Harry lived with those awful muggles?

She was very observant at school. She had the ability to be in a room without anyone noticing her, and that had given her quite a bit of information that she probably shouldn’t know. It had also been cause for her to see quite a few things that she didn’t want to see. She shivered thinking about Madam Pince and Madam Hooch. She shook her head and jumped slightly when a small hand landed on her shoulder.

“Here’s your tea dear.” Arabella said placing it in front of her on the table. Valerie nodded quietly trying to stop her racing heart. “Thank you Ms. Figg, it really wasn’t necessary.” The older woman waved her off with a hand before taking a sip of her tea. It was still hot, but there was a cooling charm on the cup to keep it from burning her.

“Be careful it’s still hot.” Arabella said and Valerie nodded setting the cup back down on the plate. She went back to petting Cornelius when a loud bout of ash and soot came flying out of the fireplace followed by a very disgruntled looking old medi-witch.

“Stupid floo.” She was muttering to herself glaring darkly at the fireplace until another body came through. It resembled her potion’s professor, but unlike Pomfrey he didn’t have any soot on him. “Ms. Waldron.” He said noticing her gaze and she nodded wincing slightly.

He narrowed his eyes at the girl before walking into the room. He took a step towards her and she flinched shocking him. She was one of the few students who didn’t act afraid of him. “Sorry Professor. It’s not you, it’s just…” He nodded in understanding as Pomfrey shoved past him taking a seat on the coffee table to examine the girl.

“Oh dear.” She muttered over and over again as she worked on the wounds. It was really starting to annoy Valerie and she rolled her eyes. She noticed Professor Snape cover up a laugh and smiled. He was kind of like a father figure to her back at school, or a mentor of sorts.

“There now dear. Are there any…injuries…that aren’t visible?” She said looking pointedly at the girl with a sympathetic look. Severus glared at the woman and looked at Valerie searching. Valerie just looked down at her lap before lifting the leg of her jeans. “Just my ankle.” She watched Pomfrey visibly relax and looked up at Severus. He was still looking at her searching with a scowl on his face.

“He didn’t rape me Professor.” She watched him wince before nodding as he leaned lightly against the pink wall. He glared at it with distaste and she smirked.

“Very well. A good night’s rest and you should be as good as new.” Poppy said casting a charm to get rid of the rest of the bruising. Valerie nodded before standing up and testing her ankle carefully. She smiled lightly and bounced on it a bit.

“Good as new, so can I go get my stuff now?” She asked standing up putting Cornelius on the couch beside her. The cat meowed at her and she patted his head.

“Albus has already sent someone to retrieve your things. They will be waiting for you at Hogwarts when you get off the train tomorrow.” Poppy said packing up various things in her bag. Her poofy brown hair reminded Valerie of one of those wack a mole games.

“What am I going to do about clothes?” She asked looking down at her torn muggle clothes. Poppy looked at Severus then back to Valerie just as they heard the door slam in the entryway.

Severus walked into the entryway and glared at the person standing there. After Voldemort’s defeat they had found a way to bring Sirius back through the veil and now he was a full-fledged member of the Order. “Sirius.” Severus scowled.

“Snivellus.” Sirius said pushing past the man and walking into the room. He tossed the backpack at Pomfrey and she caught it. “That’s the girl’s school robes, and a change of clothing for tomorrow. As well as any other necessities. Tonks put it together.” He said scowling at Severus as he stepped into the room.

“You know life’s to short to let childish rivalries get in your way.” A small voice said and he narrowed his eyes on a small girl with torn clothes. When she stood up he realized she wasn’t small at all.

“But boys will be boys right?” She said shooting a glare at both Severus and Sirius. She grabbed the backpack from Pomfrey and opened it with a smirk. “I’ve got to meet this Tonks. I’ve been looking for this shirt all summer.” She said holding a bit of red fabric in her hands.

“Well I guess I’ll be on my way. See you at Hogwarts.” She said nodding at her Professor before heading towards the door. A hand grabbed her shoulder and she flinched before turning around. “Valerie, will you stay here tonight. I’ll give you a ride to the train station tomorrow.” Arabella asked and Valerie sighed.

“Ms. Figg, it would be intruding…” Valerie said placing her hands on her hips. “Nonsense. You’ve had a hard night, and remember medi-witch orders you need to get a good night’s sleep.” Arabella said waving a finger in her face. Valerie looked at the medi-witch who nodded.

“I’ll just go stay at Stephanie’s…” She said thinking of the first name off the top of her head. Severus shot her a look and she glared at him.

“There are no Stephanie’s at Hogwarts Ms. Waldron, are you suggesting a muggle take you to King’s Cross?” Severus said glaring slightly with a knowing look. She glared back at him trying to decide if she could think of an excuse.

“I can apparate.” She said with a triumphant smile. “That is correct. Today was your 18th birthday was it not? Nice birthday present?” He said pointing to her still slightly swollen jaw and she narrowed her eyes at him.

“You know you’re really a prick some times. I’ll stay here Ms. Figg, just so the big black bat will stay off my back.” She said looking at the little woman who clapped her hands and ran off to clean up a room.

“30 points from Ravenclaw.” Severus said glaring at her and she laughed. “School hasn’t started. I have a question though, have you ever seen a muggle show called Batman?” She smirked when his eyes narrowed at her slightly.

“I’m afraid I haven’t had that pleasure.” He growled through clinched teeth. “Well, see he’s kind of a super hero, and one of his enemies is the riddler. Riddle me this, riddle me that, who’s afraid of the big black bat?” She asked teasingly before winking at him. “Not me. So quit the scary bad guy act.” She said before she heard a laugh behind her and turned towards the man named Sirius.

“Shut up.” She growled at him and he looked at her shocked shutting his mouth immediately. “Good puppy.” She smirked before walking up and patting him on the head. The corners of Severus’s lips turned up slightly and she smirked.

“I have succeeded in my daily shock factor, so I’m going to bed. Have fun Professor, and…” She was cut off by Sirius who glared at her with a small smirk. “Professors, I’m assisting Remus in Defense Against the Dark Arts.” She looked at him in shock before turning to Severus who scowled, but nodded that it was true.

“Right. I’m screwed.” She mumbled to herself just as Arabella came in the room making a lot of noise, so no one heard what she said. “Follow me dear. You boy’s can stay for tea, or head back to Hogwarts?” She asked looking at them from behind her glasses. The boy comment seemed to insult them, but Valerie thought it was funny.

“I’ve got to head back to Hogwarts Arabella. I’m sure Sirius has the same plans.” He said looking at Sirius who glared at him, but nodded. “Well goodnight then. I’m going to show Valerie to her room.” She said putting her hand on the girl’s arm.

Valerie looked back once more before following behind Ms. Figg. Arabella led her to a room decorated in flowers and the color pink. Valerie fought not to cringe as she thanked the older woman and said good night. The door shut quietly behind Arabella and Valerie curled up under the blanket. She was sure she wouldn’t get very much sleep and she was right. Nightmares plagued her dreams.
