Gold. Soft strands against my white-hot skin. Suddenly they shift, revealing his face. He’s smiling. Not an expression he often wears while looking at me. His breath warms my flushed face, until I feel I’m burning up with fever. The lingering smell of alcohol hits me, and I remember why he’s so friendly tonight. Why I’m here. Eyes, usually cruel, focus softly on me. Lips, not in their customary smirk, trail up my neck. It’s not what I’m used to. I like him like this. I try to tell him.
