Chapter 1

AN: I completely forgot I ever wrote this! I'm getting rid of all the things I don't need on my computer to see if the stupid thing will run faster and I came across this by accident. Sorry that I left it unfinished right at the good bit, but I'm working on the end right this second so I'll have it up in a couple of hours. Please review review review!!!

Disclaimer: I don't own anything to do with Harry Potter including the characters and setting. That honor goes to the talented JK Rowling.

Hermione Granger walked briskly down the halls of Hogwarts, her footsteps making a sharp snap after each step. She reached the door to his office, it was now or never.

Severus Snape grumbled at insistent rapping coming from his door. He didn't even bother to look up from the essays he was marking. He knew it was the headmaster; it was well after curfew so no student in their right mind would disturb him now. Even his precious Slytherins weren't that brainless. He let out an exasperated "Enter" and waited for Albus to come in.

Hermione pushed open the heavy door and stepped nervously into the room. Her confidence all went out the window the moment she laid eyes on him. He wasn't looking at her; he was sitting at his desk bent over a stack of parchments. A lock of his midnight black hair had fallen over his forehead. She wanted to tuck it behind his ear so badly but she knew that she had to hold back.

"Can I help you?" He snapped out. He still hadn't looked up from the essays. 'Crap what now?' Hermione desperately thought to herself.

"Pro-professor I just wa-wanted to ask y-you about-" Her voice was trembling, the words coming out in one breath.

"MISS GRANGER WHAT IN MERLINS NAME ARE YOU DOING HERE?" Snape's head snapped up this time. He looked into her tear filled eyes with anger. "I asked you a question Miss Granger. What would a 7th year Gryffindor know-it-all be out doing near midnight? In my personal office no less. I suggest you remove yourself now. You have lost yourself 30 points from Gryffindor for being out after curfew. Now leave."

"No sir I won't." Her confidence taking over. She moved towards where he was sitting and spoke her mind before she could convince herself to do otherwise. "Professor Snape perhaps you should get a drink because after what I tell you you're going to want one."

"Excuse me Miss Granger," he snarled in a dangerously quiet voice. "I believe I am the teacher here, you will remove yourself from my presence this instant before I take a further 30 points. Do you understand me?"

"I'm sorry professor but you will listen to me." Hermione answered back living up to her know-it-all reputation. Snape wasn't going to give up the fight though.

"Miss Granger LEAVE ME ALONE!"

"NO!"

"GRANGER STOP THESE CHILDISH GAMES RIGHT NOW AND GET OUT OF MY SIGHT!"

"I CAN'T!"

"WHY NOT?"

"BECAUSE I LOVE YOU! That’s right professor, I love the way you look, and you’re the sexiest man I have ever known. I love your erotic silky voice; I love your personality, your subtle humor. When I look at you my heart explodes with happiness. The thought of leaving Hogwarts is tearing me apart because I'll never see you again. Just thinking about it brings me to tears. This is why I'm here, I don't expect love back, God knows I won't get it. I just wanted you to know. Now you know." She poured her heart out to him before she even thought about what she was saying. Embarrassment was finally kicking in and she turned to leave, to run from him and the rejection she was about to face.

As she got to the door Snape seemed to snap out of his shocked stupor. She reached to open the door, to escape to her room but a muttered spell from him prevented her from turning the handle.

"Miss Granger you are entering dangerous territory here. I'm stunned to believe that you have an infatuation with me, it simply cannot be true. Who has put you up to this juvenile joke? I suggest you think wisely about what you are going to say next." Snape looked down at her from behind his desk. She cowered down to a heap of tears on the ground.

"How can you even think it is possible that I'm lying?" She whimpered out through bouts of tears. Hermione was an emotional mess. She'd never been so humiliated in her life. "I'm sorry that my feelings are an inconvenience to you professor. If it helps I didn't ask to feel this way."

"Hush Miss Granger, crying will get you no where." He truly felt sorry for the girl. She looked so innocent there all crumpled on the ground. She had her knees curled under her chin. Well at least that annoying crying had started to cease. He strode over to where she was bundled and gently rubbed her shoulder. "Come on Hermione, you can clean yourself up in my chambers and perhaps have a cup of tea." His voice was less harsh now, almost gentle.

Hermione's heart had started beating out of her chest at the first feel of his hand against her shoulder. She accepted his outstretched hand and followed him through a portrait that was the secret entrance to his chambers.
