Blood of the Virgin Witch

I’ve never tried to write a PWP before so I thought I’d have a go.

All Harry Potter characters belong to JK Rowling and those with whom she has contracts. This story is being written for practice not profit.

Blood of the Virgin Witch

Voldemort’s Latest Obsession.

A sub-committee of the Order of the Phoenix was in session in a dis-used dungeon classroom. Professor Severus Snape was filling the group in on information gathered at an earlier meeting with Voldemort.

“So you’re sure of this Severus? There is no possible substitute for this ingredient?”

“For the last time Headmaster! If the Dark Lord cannot harvest fresh blood from a mature virgin witch on the night of a full moon he will be unable to brew this potion. It’s a perfect short term distraction. By the time he has reconciled himself to the fact that this substance is so unattainable as to be virtually mythic in these times, term will be over…”

“And the children will be scattered countrywide, so an attack on Hogwarts will have fewer casualties.”

“So this new obsession is going to work in our favour as long as he can’t obtain the active ingredient,” said Arthur Weasley.

“Potter is reaching his prime quickly now. Next year he will be based at the Auror training centre in Hogsmeade and the focus will shift away from the school. The Dark Lord fixated on the potential of this potion and hopefully may even pick off a few of his own when they cannot supply this ingredient.”

“As long as he does not pick you off Severus. You are too powerful an ally to risk lightly.”

“Fortunately Headmaster, he shares your opinion of me in that regard.”

“It sounds as though this is good news Severus,” said Arthur wearily. “Are we sure that the substance is unattainable? Surely some of his sympathisers have daughters on the verge of maturity?”

“Come on Arthur,” said Molly. “It’s not that long since we were that age. You know what young witches and wizards are . I. It’s virtually impossible to make it to seventeen as a virgin. As soon as the powers begin to mature that’s that.”

“And it’s like that for everyone?”

Severus interrupted lazily. “Arthur, I regard it as my duty to delay this process as much as possible until the little brats can make some kind of sensible decision about their choice of partner. After seventeen years of it I can confidently assert that no student has made it past sixth year as a virgin and few make it that far. Is there anyone here who can contradict me on that?”

The group sitting round the table cast shifty glances at each other. Harry and Ron were the youngest present and still young enough to blush.

“Well Potter?” said Severus, a hint of malice sneaking into his voice. “Have you anything to say on the matter?”

“The only virgin in our year I know about is Hermione,” he said hesitantly. “Apart from her… I think you’re right. Only the younger boys in the year made it as far as sixth year. I don’t think any other girls did.”

“The fact that Miss Granger has not seen fo dio divulge the details of her experimentation to you does not make her a virgin,” said Snape confidently. “I will grant that I am surprised she did not bestow her favours on either, or indeed both of you, given her reputation.”

“What do you mean by that?!!” spat Ron fiercely.

“Not many fourth year girls have managed to have their love lives commented on in the national press, Weasley. Surely even you have noticed that.”

“Severus please,” interrupted Dumbledore. “This is a serious matter. If Miss Granger is still a virgin then she is at great risk. I must admit I am also surprised that neither of you have extended your friendship that far. It is what is expected to happen.”

“She is a Muggle-born,” said Molly. “Might that make a difference?”

“Some Muggle religions require celibacy amongst the unmarried,” said Lupin. “If Hermione has a grounding in that sort of thing it might have affected her.”

“Or she could have limited herself to other girls,” said Snape. “If that were the case she would still be useless for the spell because the innocence would be gone even if her maidenhead were still intact.”

“I think that’s quite enough speculation,” said Professor McGonagall sternly. “Professor Snape appears to be in some confusion as to whether the child is a man crazed whore or a committed lesbian while Professor Lupin prefers to imagine her as a nun. The only way to verify whether or not Hermione is still a virgin is to ask her.”

“I take it you will volunteer yourself for that task?”

“I think it would be best if Molly and I spoke to her. Woman to woman as it were.”

“Then can we finish this meeting? I do have other resibisibilities this evening.”

“Miss Granger is assisting Mr Filch with his patrol in your place. That is why she is not here. Assuming of course she hasn’t wrestled him to the ground to have her way with him,” she said dryly. “We still need to address the issue of what we will do if the child does prove to be a virgin.”

“There are two choices, as I see it,” said Dumbledore. “Either she contrives to give up her virginity or she will need to be hidden until Voldemort is gone. The first option would be preferable. Miss Granger is a very powerful young witch. She has always been mature beyond her years and I feel it is necessary for her to be Harry’s companion until the conflict is over.”

“The maturity may be the problem,” said Minerva thoughtfully. “She has always been powerful, even as a first year. It may be that her power matured very early before the hormones came into play. It’s the combination of the two which creates the drive in the teenage years.”

“That doeke ske sense,” agreed Lupin. “If her power was in balance when she matured physically she might have had more control. As I recall she seemed to restrict herself to outbursts of temper.”

“Aren’t you forgetting Krum?” cut in Snape.

“She only kissed him the once. They were penpals after the Tri-wizard. He had too many groupies to wait for someone so much younger,” said Ron.

“If Hermione is still a virgin she will need to know she can approach someone without getting knocked back,” said Molly practically.

“She ought to have as many candidates to choose from as possible,” said Lupin. “Ideally it should be one of us. We would know the reason she needed to approach us and it would relieve her of the obligation of pretending to offer anything going beyond the one encounter.”

“This is a waste of time. If you’re intent on compiling a list of names, by all means include me, if it means I can get out of here quickly. It won’t be necessary. No witch stays a virgin until the age of eighteen, unless you take her wand away and wall her up in a tower! I believe Merlin actually resorted to that measure and times were less free then.”

“So Severus is first on the list,” said Molly, making a note on her parchment and ignoring the glare he gave her. “Is there anyone here who is not prepared to stand by Hermione in this matter?”

No one spoke. Molly listed the names of everyone present.

“I’ve listed all the men,” she said. “Severus, are you sure a woman is sufficient to render her unsuitable?”

“If the woman knows her business, yes,” he replied sourly.

“That’s myself and Minerva then as well. If we’re finished I’ll contact the twins by floo and ask permission to add them on. It might be easier if it’s someone she knows but doesn’t have to see every day.”

“If that is all, I will go,” said Snape. “I would hate to think of poor Argus defenceless in Miss Granger’s hands.”

With that parting shot he strode out of the room.

Hermione was just about to retire to her bed after finishing her patrol when Professor McGonagall flooed her and asked her to step through to her private sitting room. Late night meetings had been something of a regular occurrence throughout seventh year so Hermione was not particularly concerned. She put her outer robe back on and travelled to Professor McGonagall’s rooms on the internal floo network. When she got there she found Molly Weasley sitting nursing a healthy measure of firewhisky. This was an unusual sight, as Molly did not usually indulge in strong drink. Hermione was quite shocked when a similarly full glass was thrust into her own hands.

“Professor,” she protested. “I’ve never drunk anything stronger than wine.”

“Brace yourself Miss Granger. We are about to indulge in women’s talk,” said Minerva, in a tone that lead Hermione to wonder if the glass she held was the first she had drunk that evening.”

Hermione sat down next to Molly on the sofa, leaving Minerva to pace on the hearthrug.

“Hermione, it has been brought to my attention that you may still be a virgin. I am going to have to ask you to confirm or deny the rumour.”

To say Hermione was surprised would not do justice to her thoughts at that moment. After a few seconds she managed to counter Minerva’s unconventional conversational opening.

“In the Muggle world that would not generally be something I could discuss with a teacher.”

“Child if this were not an important matter I would not dream of invading your privacy. Please believe we have your best interests at heart.”

“Tell me why you want to know and I’ll think about it,” said Hermione weakly.

“Hermione dear,” said Molly. “Professor Snape visited you-know-who earlier today. He has discovered an ancient potion recipe to increase his powers and he wants Severus to help him brew it. The key ingredient is the blood of a mature virgin witch harvested under a full moon.”

“Mature virgin witches are virtually unheard of,” stated Minerva. “We were initially relieved that Voldemort was planning to waste time and resources on trying to find one. That is until Harry and Ron told us that you might qualify. Tell me child. Do we have a reason to be afraid for you?”

“I am a virgin,” admitted Hermione. “I made my mind up when I was quite young that I wanted to wait until I got married. I have been tempted obviously and I know that I’m probably the only one over sixteen but I’ve always managed to talk myself out of it.”

“That shows great strength of character Hermione,” said Minerva kindly. “We all know that the impulses during your teen years are impossible to ignore. It does, however, put you in a difficult position. Either you have to compromise on your decision and surrender your virginity or you are going to have to be magically hidden. If a junior Death Eater realises that you are a virgin and the news gets back to Voldemort, he will stop at nothing to get his hands on you.”

“You let Harry stay here.”

“Harry is part of a prophecy. He cannot be kept from his destiny and he needs to be with the Headmaster. You are a different matter.”

“So you want me to go?”

“Hermione, I would rather see you change your mind about maintaining your virginity. Although it is not a prophecy, we acknowledge that you, Harry and young Ronald are inextricably bound through this wonderful, enduring friendship of yours. I believe you have a place at his side. If you believe that too, then we have a solution for you. A number of Order members have put their names on this list. All you have to do is contact one of them privately tomorrow. They will come to you for one night and after that you may remain here. If you are still a virgin by Sunday afternoon then we have to take action. The action is not merely to protect you from Voldemort but to protect all of us from the consequences of him completing the potion.”

“I don’t have much of a choice really do I? It would be very difficult to hide me. Really I’m too much of a danger to be allowed… I can see that. Give me the list.”

I know I said PWP but the plot seemed to sneak up on me a bit.
