Right now the chapters are really tame and stuff, but I decided to make this into a long story instead of the PWP things I’ve been doing lately. In a way, it’s my way to make up for the fact that I won’t be increasing the chapters of Question of Interest. I hope everyone likes this story and I hope all of y’all will review. The more I hear from people, the more likely I am to write things quicker. ^_^ much love,
Ivory Wolf

It is the Marauders sixth year at Hogwarts and rumors are slowly starting to surround Remus Lupin. There are more and more whispers in the corridors about him as the students go to their classes. Always the same question is asked and s the there is no answer to it. Why does Remus miss class so much?

During his first year of Hogwarts, Remus had a good excuse for every time his missed classes. From his grandmother’s sudden death to having to visit a cousin who only visits once every few years. But it seems that ever year the excuses become less until he doesn’t even comment about missing the day before. What all of the students find most peculiar is the fact that none of the teachers bring up the matter. All they do is hand him his makeup work and tell him when it’s do.

Some say that Remus is just trying to be a punk and show that he’s not the quiet goody-two shoes of the Marauders like everyone thinks. Some say that he’s a secret agent of the Ministry who’s job is to spy and rat out those who are talking about teaming up with the Dark Lord. Some have gone as far as to say that Remus is a famous rock star to the muggles and has to travel out and sign autographs every once in a while to keep the fans from asking questions about his whereabouts. No matter how crazy or how logical the excuses the classmates come up with, none of them even come close to guess it right. But who would suspect the real reason for his missing classes once a month? Who could possibly believe the the kind, smart, sweet-hearted Remus Lupin was in fact a werewolf?

“Come on Remus, just one date,” Sirius begs. “It’s not like she’s got rabies or something.”

“No,” Remus states. “Absolutely not! I’ve never dated and I’m not about to start now.”

“It’s not like you got to kiss her!” he fights. “You don’t even have to hold her hand! Just go out to eat with us, talk to her and that’s it.”

“No,” he says in a tone that tells Sirius to drop it.

“Leave him alone Sirius,” James says from his bed as he flips through a Quidditch magazine. “We’ve tried to get him to date since our first year of Hogwarts, he’s not going to budge on the matter.”

“I still don’t understand why he wonate, ate,” Sirius says. “Besides, I’ve set him up with Penelope Griffins! Do you know how many guys that would give up their balls to go out with her?”

“Why don’t you date her then?” Remus retorts.

“Because I’m going on a date with her twin sister, Melanie, who is just as gorgeous,” Sirius answers.

“I’m not going Sirius.”

“Fine, don’t go out with her. I’ll just have to find someone who will.”

“Peter?” James suggests.

“What do you think Peter? Would you like to have a go with her?” Remus asks. Peter blushes deeply before nodding his head. “There you go Sirius. Peter will double date with you.”

“Bloody fantastic,” Sirius mutters under his breath so only Remus can hear him. He knows why Sirius is so unenthusiastic about it. Peter isn’t neither the most handsome nor the smoothest one of the Marauders. Hell, he’s not even one of the smart ones. He’s simply Peter, which will probably work against him while he’s double dating.

Remus knows why Sirius wanted him to go. It doesn’t have to do with the other choice being Peter or the fact that James is dating Lily. He knows for a fact that even if James was single, Sirius would still be trying to get Remus together with Penelope. He knows that it isn’t because of the fact that he is handsome, though many girls think he is. Nor is it the fact that he is smart. It’s not even because he can get through a night without saying something that would cause him to get smacked in the face, which is another fault of Peter’s.

No, Remus knows that Sirius is so determined to get him a date because of the other rumors that are starting about him. No one can comprehend the fact that Remus doesn’t date because he hasn’t found anyone he’s interested in. After all, there are many girls in Hogwarts that are beautiful enough to be in the magazines and they seem interested in him. And if he’s looking for someone who’s smart, there are many intelligent girls in Ravenclaw that are more than willing to go studying with him. So everyone has decided that there is only one possible explanation as to why Remus isn’t dating. He’s gay. He has to be. People are so sure of this that he’s even had guys come up to him and ask him out.

Now don’t think that Sirius is a homophobe who desperately wants his friend to be straight, because that is not the case. Remus likes girls, but there is one problem with dating for him. The wolf. If the wolf isn’t interested in the girl, he’s able to successfully convince Remus not to be interested in her either. If the wolf were interested in the girl, he’d want to mate with her, binding the girl to Remus forever. And Remus doesn’t like the thought of going on a date and ending up getting kicked out of a restaurant for stripping a girl and having his way with her over their dinner. Luckily, the wolf doesn’t seem to like any of the girls at Hogwarts so he doesn’t have to worry about it, yet.

“Well, now that that’s over with, let’s go,” James says. “The feast will be starting soon and Dumbledore said that tonight is a special night.”

“Why is it so special?” Peter asks.

Sirius shrugs. “He’s probably got something planned for us,” he grins. “Remember when he had that dragon fly in through the room and sing Christmas carols while belching fire? The dragon nearly singed Snape’s hair. Pity its aim was off.”

“But it’s not a holiday,” Remus points out. “We’re barely into our second week of school, why would he so quickly do something like that?”

“Maybe he’s going to have more entertainment at diner this year,” Peter says hopefully.

“Don’t count on it Wormtail,” Remus says.

“Well, my fellow Marauders, there’s only way to find out,” James grins. “Let’s go.”

The friends enter the Great Hall to find that nearly everyone is in there, eager to find out what Dumbledore has planned. Sirius groans. “We’ve got to sit in the back,” he says, noticing that all of the other seats are taken.

“That’s what you get for not listening to me,” James says. “Now we’ll never get a good view of what’s going to happen. The dragon hadn’t even flown close to the door when it came.” They sit at the back of the Gryffindor table and see that Dumbledore has a big twinkle in his eye, showing that tonight is going to be interesting.

He stands and everyone looks to him with baited breath. “I know that diner usually doesn’t start this earlier, but see that you’re all here,” his eyes smile as he surveys all of the students, “I decided that we should begin.

“As you all know, I told you this morning that today is an important day. Seeing that most of you have been trying to get a sit close to the front of the room, I can tell that you were expecting me to bring a monster of some sort to fly over your heads, am I not right?”

The students hoot and holler in replausiausing him to grin. “I’m sorry to inform you that that is not going to happen tonight, but I will take that into consideration while I’m planning our Halloween feast. Something more exciting is happening tonight.”

The students look to one another, muttering their curiosity to each other. What could be more exciting than a deadly creature flying close enough that ouldould killed you if it wanted to? Dumbledore answersir sir silent question as he continues: “Tonight is an important night because we have a new student who will be sorted tonight. I know that we’ve already sorted all of the first years, but this young witch will be starting her sixth year at this school. She was originally going to Duergons School of Witchcraft in Ireland, but do to family issues, she has come here. I hope all of you treat her kindly and help her find her way around Hogwarts. All of you know how much trouble that can be.

“Now, Professor McGonagall, please show our new student in.” The Professor leaves the room as the whispers quickly spread through the Great Hall.

“I wonder why she’s coming here now,” one says.

“Wonder what the family issues are,” another mutters.

“I guess this is exciting,” Sirius grins. “Mind you, I still wish it was a dragon, but at least it’s a new girl. Maybe I can show her around.”

“What about Melanie?” Remus asks.

“What? It’s not like I’m her boyfriend or anything,” Sirius states. “Why? Are you going to go after this one?”

Remus brushes off the comment. “You haven’t even seen her yet, how do you know that you want to date her?”

“It’s what I call hoping Moony,” he grins. “Too bad we’re in the back.”

The Great Hall becomes silent when the doors open and McGonagall enters with a young witch who surprisingly doesn’t look frightened. She walks with her head held high and her long curly brownish-blonde hair held back in a ponytail. Her deep blue eyes look forward as she continue her way towards the front where the stool and hat wait for her. She’s not the most beautiful witch in the world, but there’s a classic beauty about that captivates most of the wizards and even a few of the witches.

She sits on the seat and before the hat falls over her eyes, they meet Remus’. Even from a distance, even through all of the people, they seem to stare at his and only his. He feels his heart stop and before he can stop himself, lets off a soft growl. James quickly coughs loudloughough to cover up the noise, earning an ‘are you okay?’ from the person sitting near them.

“Thank you,” Remus mumbles. He turns his attention back to the girl to see that she is now waiting for the hat to makes its decision.

‘Please let her be in-‘ he thinks.

“GRYFOR!”OR!” the hat shouts. Their table bursts into applause as the girl takes a seat near the front.

Remus frowns, earning a laugh from Sirius. “You like her,” he states.

“No I don’t,” he lies.

“Yeah and you were growling because of a hairball,” he grins.

Remus blushes and looks up the table, happy to find that he has a perfect view of her. Their eyes meet again and he thinks something that causes him to look away quickly.

“What’s wrong Moony?” Sirius asks.

“N-nothing,” he stutters.

“Liar,” James states. “You’re as pale as a ghost, what’s wrong?”

“The wolf told me something,” he whispers.

The three friends look at one another, knowing that it can’t be good. “He doesn’t want to do anything bad, does he?” Peter asks.

“No,” he says. “It’s about the new girl.”

“What did he say?” Sirius asks, already knowing the answer.

Remus quotes the three words the wolf had said to him earlier. The three words that lets Remus know that he has to stay as far away from her as possible.

“’I wants her.’”
