~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You’ve known for over three months now and still he hasn’t mentioned it to you. Whenever you speak about when the next full moon is, he brushes off the comment as though it’s nothing. Whenever you mention lycanthropy, he quickly changes the subject.
So here you are, lying on the couch of the Gryffindor common room, fuming. After all, you’ve been friends with Remus Lupin for over… what is it two years now? Yes, two years and still he won’t tell you his darkest secret. That he is a werewolf. A werewolf who happens to also be one of the smartest, hottest wizards at Hogwarts, but a werewolf none the less.
Now that you think about it, you don’t see why it wasn’t obvious to begin with. He always happened to get sick on the day of the full moon, but wasn’t in the infirmary when you’d go and check on him. No to mention that he always had a new scar on his body after being ‘sick.’
Not only that, but he’s never had a girlfriend. Ever. You’re second best friend Lily informed you that even during his first years at Hogwarts, Remus refused to date. And although Sirius is known as the best looking in the group, Remus has had plenty of girls ask him out. At first you thought that he might be one of those arrogant guys who thought that no girl was ever good enough for him. Hell, you’ve even thought that maybe he didn’t like girls. When you had asked Lily about this and she just laughed in your face, which pretty much threw out that theory.
Then one day you were reading a book in the library and came upon a chapter about werewolves. Suddenly, everything clicked. All of the sick days, all of the scars, the lack of dating, it all became so clear to you. Sure, you haven’t talked to anyone about it to confirm your suspicions, but the more you watch him now a-days, the more you realize that this time you are right.
At first you had been tempted to confront him about it, but decided against it. Remus is the type of guy that doesn’t like to be backed into a corner (your guess is that’s the wolf in him). So you have been waiting as patiently as you can for him to tell you, but still his mouth remains shut.
“You look about as happy as a wet cat,” a voice muses. “What’s wrong?”
You look up and see that Sirius is standing over you with a playful look in his eyes. “Nothing,” you snap to quickly. And of course Sirius now knows something is wrong. You’ve always hated/liked that about him.
For as long as you can remember, he’s always been able to read your emotions like a children’s book while others read it like a child does ‘War and Peace,’ they don’t. You hate the fact that he can see through you so easily, but you are still glad that at least one person has been able to understand you. ‘Well, three,’ you correct. ‘Him, Lily, and Remus.’
“Come on, I know something’s wrong, tell me!” He puckers out his lower lip and gives you the famous puppy dog eyes.
You growl in frustration, because now 1) you feel like a pushover and 2) you’re going to end up telling Sirius the truth. Shit. “You know, you’re really annoying sometimes,” she tells him.
“Don’t change the subject.”
You sigh loudly and say, “I can’t talk about it here because someone might eavesdrop.”
Sirius’ eyes widen and he gets a huge grin on his face. “Ooooooo, secrecy. This is going to be good.”
“It’s not for my sake,” you retort.
“Really? And who’s sake is it for?”
“Remus’.”
Sirius loses his smile and he stares at you with a piercing gaze. “What about him?”
“Let’s just say that I now understand why his nickname is Moony.”
His eyes widen in shock and he studies you closer, trying to see if you’re bluffing. You guess that you pass the test because all he does is nod before walking out of the common room. You follow him and slip inside an empty classroom after him. He closes the door, locks it, and puts a silence charm on it before turnin you you. “So, what is it that you know about him?” he asks.
You smile, knowing that he wants you to be blunt about it. You can understand why too; sometimes hints only lead to wrong accusations. “I know he’s a werewolf,” you answer. “It’s all really starting to piss me off.”
Sirius face turns red and he shouts, “It’s not like he can help it!”
“I’m not pissed off about him being a werewolf, idiot,” you shout back. “I’m pissed off because he still hasn’t told me about it.”
“Oh,” he grins sheepishly. “Well, I hate to break it to you, but he’s never going to tell you.”
“Did he tell you, James, and Peter?”
“Sure, but that’s different.”
“How?”
“We’re not girls and he’s straight.”
“And you’re point is…”
“Have you researched at all about werewolves since you found out?”
“Are you kidding me? I checked out and read every book that ever mentioned ‘werewolves.’”
“Then think. You’re smart, you can figure out why.”
You comply and mentally fish through all of your research about werewolves. Hm… well, you do know that werewolvlaimlaim their mate as theirs and only theirs. Once they pick their mate, they stay with him or her until they die. But what does that have to do with you?
“But I’m not trying to be his mate,” you tell him.
“Exactly,” Sirius says. “Remus thinks that you’d never be his mate, so he thought it’d be safer if you didn’t know about his being a werewolf.”
“Safer?” you repeat in disbelief. “How?”
“Let’s just say that the wolf in him has been looking your way for quite a while now. If he found out that you know what he is, and accept him for it, it might give the wolf a reason to stake his claim.”
“Meaning?”
“He’d fuck you.”
You feel yourself blush and look to the ground. “So I shouldn’t tell him?”
“I’m not saying that. It’s up to you whether you want to tell him or not. I’m just warning you about what could happen incase you’re not interested… are you interested?”
You shift uncomfortably from foot to foot as you think about the issue. Sure, Remus is beautiful to you and you would love to date him. But to be bonded to him forever without knowing whether he’s right for you or not seems crazy. “I’m not too sure,” you finally say.
“Well, think about it for a while before you decide,” Sirius tells you. “You don’t want to do something you’ll regret.”
