Lucius Malfoy sat at his desk in his library. He stared at the paper in
front of him. The white parchment edges curling up to meet his fingers, the
large black letters jumping off the page and into his head and the smell of
barely-dried ink that invaded his nose.

She wanted a divorce.

Lucius was heartbroken. Even though it seemed like he barely liked Narcissa,
let alone loved her, he was actually very much attached to her. The thought
of spending the rest of eternity without her presence was a little
disappointing, to say the least. For hours he had sat looking at that
document wondering when things had gone wrong and where she got the nerve to
finally do something about it.

Narcissa was weak in many ways and having the power to speak up about a
small decision, like what to have for dinner was a big deal. So for her to
actually go ahead with a divorce was a surprising blow to his mind. But what
she wanted he would always give her.

So he signed it.

Lucius shoved it into an envelope and sealed it with wax. He then summoned
the owl and sent it off to their lawyer. It was a sad moment for him to
watch that owl fly away with his life. He sat down and had a glass of brandy
and thought about other tasks at hand.

Information for Dumbledore.

What his now ex-wife did not know was that he was a spy for Dumbledore. In
fact, no one knew Lucius was anything but evil and mean. He had given off
the persona of nasty, rich, evil, Voldemort-follower, for decades now. He
was rich and he definitely had some evil in him, but in these times now,
being a spy was the safer choice.

It all started when Lucius discovered Severus Snape was a spy. Everybody had
no idea and still didn’t except for Lucius. He had found out and goi going
to turn him in, so he could be the next to the throne in loyalty instead of
Severus. But one day he thought about it, no matter what way the war went,
he could come out safe.

It sounded selfish and wrong to play both sides until a winner was declared
and then take that side. But something in Lucius told him it was the route
to go right then and that it was smart considering Voldemort had been
defeated before. Though he always came back…there may come a time when he
doesn\'t. Lucius didn\'t want to be on that side of the fence when things blew
up in the end. It was good strategy and it was working so far.

Severus wasn\'t too happy when he discovered that Lucius was going to be a
spy as well, but he quickly got over the idea as Lucius proved himself
worthy with information and had stopped a few bad incidents. Now they were
better friends than enemies and things were going smoothly on all fronts of
his life.

That is until recently.

Lately Narcissa had been touchy about every little thing. She didn’t want to
talk, she didn\'t want to make love, and she didn\'t want to go with him
anywhere. She fought about the weather if she could she was that jumpy.
Lucius knew something was wrong, but didn’t know what to do or how to go
about finding it. So, they fought instead.

It became so violent that they slept in separate rooms, ate at different
times, used different house elves and madparaparate Gringotts vaults. There
was no one in the house that could be offended. Draco had finished school
and moved out two years ago. He never visited and barely called. It was just
the way he was.

Lucius assumed she would come around at some point. He thought that if she
got lonely enough she would come back to their bed and make up. They had
down this before and things always panned out. Before Draco was born she had
gone as far as to move out of the Manor and into a room above a pub in
Diagon Alley. She was back within a week and things went back to normal.

Not this time.

About two weeks ago she moved out and had stayed out. He figured it was a
phase and waited for her to return. That was until the divorce papers had
arrived, and even now after he had signed them, he still hoped she would
return. But no matter how hard he wished or how bad he denied it, she was
gone, for good.

Lucius stared at the fire and wondered what lifeld bld be like without her.
He had no idea. Sure he had cheated here or there; he wasn\'t perfect. He had
been mean to her on quite a few occasions but no less than she was to him.
It had been a love-hate relationship for ages.

Now all there was left was hate.

Lucius got up and put on his cloak. He figured maybe if he went to see an
old friend that it would help to get his mind off of the bad things going on
right now. A friend would understand his being lonely and would care enough
it tell him to forget her and get down to business.

That friend was Severus Snape.

He would know just what to say, maybe give him a potion to forget her or
something useful like that. Lucius could no longer bear sitting around and
watching the fire die and Severus was always ght ght owl. He would be up and
brewing something or reading some book that they could discuss.

Hopefully.

He went over the fire and threw in some floo powder.

\"Hogwarts Dungeons!\" He shouted and disappeared into a puff of blue smoke
and flames.
