When their 6th year started Harry really didn\'t want to think about anything, but getting through
another year. Until he noticed on the first day back that the Slytherin table didn\'t look as ugly as it
normally did. As he was talking to Ron and Hermione about his class schedule, he chanced a
look over to that side of the Great Hall. He let his mouth drop when he spotted her.

Hermione looked over her shoulder to see what he was gaping at. \"Harry. She\'s out of your
league. Besides she\'s a Slytherin.\"

\"Who?\" Ron asked, oblivious to what was going on around him. He had taken to staring at
Hermione longingly and openly. Hermione found it both flattering and weird. She could almost
say she saw Ron as a brother, not a boyfriend. Of course he had that awkward yet cute Weasley
Charm. That was simply irresistible.

\"Blaise Zabini,\" Harry breathed. \"She looks so different.\" The last time he saw her she wore thick
glasses, had a permanent part in her hair, and her clothes hung off her loosely. So when he saw
her without the glasses and her black hair was layered and styled, he had to stare. She looked like
a Muggle supermodel. Harry also noticed that some of the other Gryffindor boys along with some
of the boys from Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff were casting furtive glances at the Slytherin table.

Hermione rolled her eyes. If there was one thing that she learned without a book was that boys
needed to be told everything when it came to girls. \"She went to Paris this summer to visit an
aunt. Apparently the aunt convinced her to drop her dowdy image and adopt a new one.\"

\"How do you know this?\" Ron leaned on his elbows, nearly sticking one in the plate of sausages.

Hermione moved the plate back and stated,\" I overheard Millicent and Pansy talking in the girls\'
bathroom.\"

Ron turned to Harry and whispered,\" That place is like a secret society or something.\" Harry
nodded.

Harry turned his gaze back to Blaise. He was mesmerized by how she tossed her hair. He could
imagine how her hair felt as it fell back to her shoulders. In the all the years that he had seen
Blaise around school he had never noticed that her eyes were such a luminous violet-blue.

Hermione waved her hand in front of Harry\'s eyes. \"Hermione to Harry. Are you still there?
Hello? Hello!\"

Harry shook his head and focused back on his friends. Ron snickered. Hermione shook her head.
\"We better get to class. Um . . . yeah. ,\" Harry muttered. Ron let out ad lad laugh when Harry
tripped trying to get up. Hermione elbowed Ron in his side as they headed out of the Great Hall.

Harry had to admit that his first day of classes weren\'t so bad, but the homework was massive. He
sat in the library behind a stack of books working on an essay for History of Magic. Professor
Binns had asked them to explain the events that led up to the Giant Wars of 1795 and how
legislatures after the war helped dwindle the numbers of the Giants. Harry hadn\'t taken a lot of
notes in class, so he used Hermione\'s notes and the books that she found while scouring the
library. Harry glanced at the stack of books towering beside him. If he so much as breathed on
them they\'d probably topple over.

Hermione returned with more books in her arms. She looked flustered as if she had just run from
Hogwarts to London. \"This will help you also,\" Hermione said as she thumped one more book on
an already teetering stack. She sat across from him and set about working on hers. Ron, who sat
beside her, was staring blankly into space, with his hand tucked under his chin. \"Aren\'t you going
to work on yours?\" Hermione asked him.

Ron nodded dumbly. \"Just thinking of the first paragraph. Remind me again why this is so
important?\"

Hermione huffed. \"You would know if you listened in class and took notes,\" she snapped. \"I
mean really.\"

\"You two aren\'t going to start are you?\" Harry asked before Ron could open his mouth to reply.
Ron looked away guiltily and Hermione bent her head to start writing. \"Good.\" Harry leaned
back in his seat to examine what he had written. He had a page and a half. It was time for a much
needed break.

\"Where are you going?\" Hermione queried as Harry stood up.

\"I need to stretch my legs. I\'ll be back,\" he replied.

Harry made his way around the library aware that Madame Pince\'s eyes were burning into the
back of his head. As he turned a corner he slammed into someone, who fell and had lost all of
their books. Harry put his glasses on. If he had been the self-abusing type, he would have slapped
himself. He had run smack into Blaise. She looked at him and smiled.

\"I\'m so sorry,\" she said softly.

Harry had never heard her speak. In their years at Hogwarts together, she had never spoken to
anyoutsiutside of Slytherin House. Now she had spoken to Harry. She had apologized to Harry!
Harry made a mental note to mark this day down.

\"Are you okay?\" He helped her up, handing her back her books. \"Did I hurt you?\'

\"No, you didn\'t.\" Blaise glanced up at him, grinning. When she smiled, she revealed sharp little
teeth that Harry found endearing. \"Are you alright?\"

Harry nodded. \"Yeah. Did you need help carrying those?\" He pointed to the stack of books in her
arms.

\"Kind of. If it\'s not too much trouble,\" she said, handing him a few. Together they carried her
books over to the table where her school bag was and a few of the Slytherins including Malfoy.
Harry nearly dropped the books he was carrying when Malfoy turned to him.

If it was possible, they had become worse enemies. Lucius Malfoy was still not out of Azkaban
and Malfoy blamed that on Harry. So when Harry came up bearing Blaise\'s books, he sneered
harder than he normally did. The others around him looked up to see what had gotten his
attention. Pansy Parkinson gawked.

\"Blaise, what is the matter with you? Potter is a Gryffindor. You know we don\'t socialize with
them,\" she barked.

Blaise put her books down and relieved Harry of his load. \"He accidentally ran into me and
helped me bring my books over. What\'s wrong with that? You know, that entire notion of the
Gryffindors being our enemies is a bunch of bullshit. Harry was nice enough to help me, so leave
him alone,\" Blaise said firmly.

Harry felt himself blush. A Slytherin had never defended him before. Especially not one he
barely knew. He felt a surge of gratitude fill him. \"I better get going now,\" Harry said to Blaise.

\"Thanks, Harry. I appreciated it.\" Blaise smiled at him again and Harry felt himself go red.

Malfoy stared at him with pure contempt. \"Better get a move on, Potter, before my girl starts
taking a liking to you. It would just give me a reason to kill you,\" Malfoy hissed.

Harry looked from Malfoy to Blaise and left. The thought of Malfoy defiling Blaise popped into
Harry\'s head and he wanted to murder Malfoy. Blaise deserved better. Harry wondered if he
could show her that without arousing the wrath of Malfoy and his cronies. As far as Blaise was
concerned, Harry would probably do anything.
