Chapter One: Stone Cold Eyes
Hermione walked into the nightclub and was almost deafened by the music blasting through the place. The club, a place called The Serpent’s Gift was in downtown Muggle New York, not a place she visited often. But over the summer she had decided that a trip to America might be fun, giving herself a chance for solitude and getting able to see a new country. So far it had been interesting, seeing things like the Statue of Liberty, and all of the people! But the best part of it all had been the nightlife. She had turned 17 this year, which did not make her legal age in the United States, but a quick charm had made everyone none the wiser. Having recovered part of her hearing, she made her way through the crowd, all dressed in black or leather, most of the time both. Piercings of all kinds seemed to be rather common as well. Some were dancing; others were drunk and hanging all over the other. One guy, his brown eyes glazed over made a crude gesture and an equally crude proposal which she ignored, trying now even more to get to the front of the room.
When she did, she realized why the crowd had been so big. The music was not coming from speakers, but a stage with a band playing wild metal music. The words Beautiful Death were inscribed in silver on the drums, the letters painted so they looked like they were bleeding down them. Hermione looked up and saw the man singing, and for a second caught his eyes.
She froze as she locked gazes with him. His eyes were grey, but she erased that quickly as she looked closer. They were grey, but not a dull color, like concrete, but many shades, seemingly swirling around his pupil like storm clouds.
‘By Merlin…he has the most beautiful eyes’ was her only thougeforefore he broke the gaze, seemingly trying to forget what just happened. It was only then that she actually began listening to the lyrics he was practically screaming.
You’ve ripped away my sanity
Gutted my humanity
And when I come begging for more
You beat me into the floor
And when I kneel at your feet
You smile, sickeningly sweet
I know that the evil inside
No longer wishes to hide…
As the song came down to a close, Hermione felt herself shudder. Something about the song bothered her and she didn’t know what. But then she thought about his eyes…those beautiful, god-like…

“Hermione?”
Hermione Granger’s eyes snapped open and she found herself looking into the green eyes of Harry Potter, one of the only people she trusted and her best friend. Ron was snoring next to him. She blinked for a moment and said nothing, trying to remember where she was.
“You okay?”
She nodded quickly, and realized she was on the Hogwarts Express, bound for her school once more. Harry sat down next to her, looking a bit concerned. Hermione turned her head and looked out the window, seeing the peaceful countryside pass by.
Well, it was peaceful now. Voldemort was still out there, hiding and waiting for his next chance to kill Harry. There hadn’t been any Death Eater activity for weeks into the summer, until about a month before school began.
His targets this time had not been wizards, but muggles, and many of them. Bombs had been set off in countless buildings around the continent, all of them with the Dark Mark leering in the sky above them. These tragedies, while not common, were devastating to the wizarding world as well, many students at Hogwarts losing family and friends. No one she knew had died, but the thought of so many needless deaths was so abhorrent…
Hermione shook her head and she heard the conductor’s voice announce that they were almost to Hogwarts. She grabbed her robes from her baggage and quickly went to change. As the train stop she she woke Ron up and stepped off, all the while thinking of those stone cold eyes.

So, was it okay? Please tell me. This again is my first fanfic, and I want to know whether I\'ve totally screwed up or not. And sorry for the shortness of the chapter.
