Author’s Note: So I began this fic with the hope of writing a Hermione/Lucius fic that is slightly different from the others. If this idea has been done before, then obviously the fic isn’t as original as I thought, but I solemnly swear that I thought of this on my own. I’m going to try to keep everyone (especially Lucius) as in-character as possible, but he may stray from time to time. Words in *’s are emphasized and words in italics are thoughts. Enjoy!

Three months ago, the eighteen-year-old Harry Potter, in a spectacular battle that had lit up the skies of Hogsmeade and nearly brought the small wizarding village to its knees in awe, had defeated Voldemort. The war had continued on for a few days longer, the news of the Dark Wizard\'s defeat taking a while to spread. However, within four short days the Order of the Phoenix had finally been able to announce its victory.

Then came the task of rounding up all the surviving Death Eaters.

It turned out there weren’t that many left, really. Most had either been killed during some battle or another, or had taken their own life in an attempt to escape capture. But, as in all wars, there were a few who had managed to survive, either too stupid or too arrogant to believe they would be convicted of the crimes they’d committed.

Within two weeks, most everyone had been found. However, it would be nearly a month later before anyone would stand trial before the Wizengamot, due to the change that was sweeping the Ministry.

Cornelius Fudge was out, having stepped down as Minister of Magic when it became obvious that he no longer had any public support whatsoever. Then, in perhaps the wisest move ever made by the Wizarding World, a new leader was elected. One who, they hoped, would make the changes that were so desperately needed.

And just like that, Arthur Weasley became the new Minister of Magic.

The patriarch of the Weasley family was overwhelmed by the position. He now had the ability to do what he had always wanted; attempt to instill his love for Muggles into all wizards and witches. But first, he had to take care of the Death Eaters who were awaiting their trials.

Consulting his fellow Order members, the man attempted to find some way to punish Voldemort’s followers that wouldn’t involve sending them to Azkaban to rot for the rest of their lives. Because, while the consensus was that they needed to be punished, many felt that some were capable of change.

Finally, after much deliberation and thinking, Arthur came up with something that he hoped would make a difference. If his theory was correct, some of those convicted could serve their time and return to the community changed men. And the fact that it was all an idea that he felt the deceased Albus Dumbledore would have approved of made it that much better.

So, two weeks after being elected to office, and only a month after the end of the war, Minister Weasley created a law that had never before been considered. It was unbelievably simple in its meaning, sending a message to any who shared Voldemort’s beliefs that their ignorance and bigotry toward Muggles would no longer be tolerated.

Because they were now going to spend a year living as one.
