The fire crackled in the hearth as the snow pelted in torrents from the heavens above, adding a luminesce to the night. The variolocklocks in the manor tocked serenely. The occasional turn of a page from a book were all the noise that filled the home. The scent of jasmine and oranges filtered through the rooms and corridors tantalizingly, adding a warmth to mansion. Inside the cozy study, a man in his middle-twenties was skimming the pages of a photo album that he\'d nicked from his lover\'s memorandum chest. The older man was seated opposite of the bespecaled man, enjoying his favourite pastime of reading upon Potions.

Harry Potter blinked at one page, positive he had not been seeing clearly. In the photograph was a teenaged version of his mate with a beautiful girl beside of him, their hands locked. \"Sev, I know that you hate talking about your past but....who is this?\" Harry asked, holding the album up for Severus Snape to see. Harry\'d never seen a picture of the girl in the seven years that he and the Potions Master had been involved.

Severus carefullyked ked his place in his book and set it aside on the table next to him. He locked his hands together on his lap and calmly stared at Harry. \"My twin.\" Harry gasped. Severus had never told Harry about his sister nor about any of his other family members. The latter he chose not to speak of because he loathed them but the former, because he loved her deeply and it was too painful to even think of her let alone tell Harry the truth.

\"Your...twin? She doesn\'t even look like you.\"

\"Nor did we share similar traits.\" Severus sighed. It had been nearly thirty years. Perhaps, it was time he told Harry, if not for any other reason than to let her soul rest in peace. \"Mila was my other half...part of my soul, you could even say. I felt her emotions and vice versa. We could often speak telepathically. She was the only thing that kept me sane during my last year at Hogwart\'s.\"

Harry crossed the room and curled up on the loveseat beside of Severus, head leaning against Severus\'s shoulder. He was going to offer his comfort. \"You speak of her in the past tenWhatWhat happened to her?\" Even if Severus refused his sympathy, Harry was determined to be there for him. After all, it was because of a death that they had become close enough to be lovers.

\"I\'ll tell you a story, Harry, about the one person that I loved more than life and still love. I\'m going to tell you how my delicate sister managed to steal all of our hearts and make enemies out of those that found her gentleness to be weakness. How she protected all of us from Voldemort before you were even a notion in your parent\'s minds. How she continues to protect us, even now, when the threat has dissipated. I\'m going to tell you, Harry, about the Lost Pleiade.\"

\"Do you still remember how it used to be?\" the dulcet voice inquired, breaking through the reverie of Severus Snape. The youth hmmed, allowing his obsidian eyes to settle on the young woman before returning to the lake that had captivated his attention for nearly a half hour, the ripples of the water almost setting him at ease. The owner of the euphonious tones leaned against the trunk of the oak tree, crossing bronzed arms in front of a slender waist. \"This reminds me of home, doesn\'t it you, Severus?\" Severus didn\'t bother with responding. The girl wasn\'t bothered by his silence as striking garnet eyes shuddered close as a breeze swept past them, whipping tendrils of silver around her lithe frame. She continued speaking, ruby gaze flickering from Severus towards the distant hills on the horizon. \"I suppose I miss it.\"

Severus finally opened his mouth, leaning on his elbows to better acquainte himself. \"What could you possibly miss about home? Father and Mother weren\'t exactly the model parents that we would have liked them to be.\" He raised his eyes to dwell fondly on his sister. They were exact opposites. Severus\'s hair was sable, hers silver. His eyes were onyx, her\'s scarlet. He was pale, she was bronzed. He was tall, she was petite. Their demeanor\'s were completely different as well. Whereas he was cold, sarcastic, aloof, stoic, short-tempered, and could be an unbearable git, she was the essence of everything that their family stood against. Patient, merciful, kind, gentle, quiet. However, Severus knew his twin could definitely degress into violence. She had no qualms about delivering punishment to those she felt deserved it. Their magical talents were polar opposites. His specialty was Potions and her\'s was Transfiguration. They both, however, were extremely gifted in the Dark Arts. \"Especially to you, Mila.\"

Mila sighed, going to join her brother on the grass. She hugged her kneloselose to her chest, resting her head on her knees. \"I never said that I missed them. I miss playing in the lake. I miss the gardens. I miss my animals. I guess that I wish we were children once again, carefree and innocent to reality. You, me, Merik, and Cecilia would spend hours gallavanting with the other families.\" She took a deep breath, eyes closing. \"I can almost smell Christmas dinner baking. The exotic spices Mum would leave in every room. The oranges that were kept burning throughout the holiday.\" She opened her peculiar hued eyes to rest on Severus. \"We\'ll be sent to live with relatives. Perhaps, even seperated if one of our numerous aunts or uncles do not want us both. I have never been the favourite.\"

Severus clasped her small hand, nearly half as small as his. \"Mil, I swear I won\'t let them part us. You are all that I love. We have enough money from our seperate vaults to live on until we graduate and can find ourselves work to support us.\" He tenderly wrapped his arm around her narrow shoulders in a warm embrace. He\'d vowed the second he\'d discovered Lysander and Sylvia had been murdered by Aurors that he would protect his fragile twin from harm; emotional and physical.

\"We won\'t always be together Severus. One day, we\'ll give each other away. We\'ll depart and then when we both get to our respective homes with our respective mates, we\'ll sit there and cry.\" Mila pressed a soft kiss to Severus\'s cheek. \"You can\'t protect me forever.\"

Severus shrugged. \"Maybe but for now, I can protect you and that\'s exactly what I plan to do.\" He would give his life without a second\'s thought to keep Mila from harm. \"I\'ve already lost Cecilia and Merik, I do not want to lose you as well.\"

\"You will never lose me, Severus.\" Mila rose to her feet, dusting her dress free of dirt. \"I\'ll will always be in your heart for I am a part of you and you are a part of me. The time will come when you will have to say goodbye to me, brother.\" Her eyes reflected the sunrise eerily, providing a glow that highlighted the russet colour. \"Mayhaps not now or anytime soon but the day will come when it will happen. Death is inevitable. There is no use prolonging it.\"

\"Mil-\"

\"Please do not speak. Let us pretend that you and I are dutiful siblings, spending the morning watching a new day begin.\" Her eyes twinkled with amusement. Severus felt his entrails knot and his heart clench tight in his chest. It was troubling to hear his twin speak about death. She spoke about it with such tranquility that he often thought that Mila was trying to tell him some dread secret she harbored. It was impossible though because if there were anything terribly wrong with Mila, he would have felt it as well.

As the rooster crowed, Mila and Severus returned to Hogwart\'s to start another year; both in their final year. Mila, upon the death of their parents, had transferred from Beauxbatons to Hogwart\'s to be closer to Severus. Severus spoke as the entered the castle. \"Since you have been placed in Gryffindor, which I hadn\'t doubted from the second the Sorting Hat settled on your precious head, I won\'t be able to keep an eye on you during our meals.\"

\"That\'s alright. Nothing too horrendous should attack me unless you discount the infamous Marauders you keep whining to me about.\"

\"Don\'t press your luck, sister,\" Severus shot her a teasing glare. \"Those infamous Marauders are going to be the ones I\'m going to ask to take care of you.\" Mila started to protest but a long finger to her lips prevented it. \"I do not trust Avery, Rosier, Lestrange, or Lucius for that matter. With you being in Gryffindor, you will automatically be cornered by the Slytherin\'s. Even if you are my sister, it doesn\'t mean anything to them. They no doubt heard from our loving relatives that you\'re the black sheep of the Snape family and brought shame upon our good name,\" he finished sardonically, opening the Great Hall doors.

The Great Hall was almost empty except for a couple teachers, the Headmaster, and much to Severus\'s relief, Remus Lupin. Though Remus had tried to kill him fifth year, Severus had to swallow his pride if he wanted his sister to be safe. \"Lupin,\" his drawl snapped Remus\'s attention from his plate. The honey eyes landed on Mila with confusion. \"I would like you to meet my sister, Mila.\"

Mila smiled benevolently, taking the offered hand with the utmost sincerity. \"It\'s nice to meet you, Remus. Severus has told me quite a bit about you and....there are some bits that he didn\'t have to tell me. I forgive you for what happened,\" she whispered.

Remus was taken aback. This soft-spoken angel was Severus\'s sister? It was impossible. Exactly why would Severus bring his sister to meet him? \"I thank you, Mila. Snape, I don\'t understand what you\'re doing. You hate me. Why bring her over here?\"

\"Because, Mila has been sorted into Gryffindor and I would appreciate it if you could help her. Mila, I\'m going to the Slytherin Tower. I have to unpack. I\'ll see you during Potions, alright?\"

\"Yes, Sevvy.\" Mila waved as he left. She bashfully smiled at Remus. \"Thank you for doing this. I\'m afraid that Severus is quite protective of me and he felt I would be secure with you and the other Marauders.\" She took a seat beside of Remus, who still hadn\'t taken her eyes off of her. \"You think it\'s queer that Severus would ask you to protect me.\"

\"Yes, I do. Why would you need protection when Severus knows every curse imagineable?\"

\"You read that our parents were killed in an Auror raid, did you not?\" Remus nodded. \"Severus felt that I should come to Hogwart\'s when I had previously attended Beauxbatons. Unfortunately, I\'m not a typical Snape. I\'m the outcast of my family and Severus thinks that the children of Death Eater\'s will be targeting me.\" Mila\'s smile became even warmer. \"But my brother means the world to me and should he be accosted for me, I will do anything in my power to keep him safe. Anything.\"

Remus kept his gaze locked on Mila, unable to comprehend the fraility that she exhibited. She was an angel, he fancied. An angel with a demon brother. Remus returned to his food, trying to come up with some type of explanation for Sirius, James and Peter when they saw Mila.
