Watching Draco

Look, it’s a man in the distance. He’s been sitting in the same place on the park bench for about two hours. You would have known that if you had paying attention. But you weren’t, no one was. He’s well groomed, impressive looking. Oh no, he’s checked his watch again. If you had watching him, you woulve kve known he’s done this regularly about every couple of minutes.

Study him carefully; he’s waiting for some one. A beautiful woman? A business partner? Whoever it was, they should be ashamed of themselves, standing up this poor boy. But wait; maybe he’s waiting for someone who won’t come, for someone who can’t. Hmm. Let’s watch, after all, the boy is so lovely, with his blond hair and wonderful face. And his divine sad eyes. Well, never mind that, let’s observe.

Draco’s POV

Hmm, Harry’s late again. Really, that’s so upsetting, third time this week. You know, one day I’ll just get up and leave.
No I won’t, I’d never leave Harry. Well, it’s 3:30. I really wish he’d hurry up; after all, the movie starts in half an hour. We already have to skip lunch. That’s Harry for you, never thinking ahead. Always jumping into things headfirst. I told him that there was this wonderful new film out. It’s really impressing, all of these muggle things.

“Hi,” A pretty dark haired girl leans over. “Is this seat taken?”

I smile politely, “No, no, please, take a seat.”

“My name’s Melanie,” she says, putting her hand out.

“Hello, I’m Draco,” taking her hand.

“Wow, that’s a name you don’t hear everyday.”

“Yes, well father always did like it, it means Dragon.”

“Very cool,” Melanie says, flipping a piece of hair out of her eyes. “Are you here waiting for someone?”

“Yes actually, although he’s a bit late,” I inform her, I try not to brag. “It’s my boyfriend, Harry, that I’m waiting for.”

“Oh, how nice,” she gushes, although disappointment is in her eyes. “Well, must dash, best of luck to you, and Harry, I’ll see you around Draco.”

“Nice meeting you Melanie,” I wave to her as she gets up and straitens her sundress.

“Bye.”
What a nice girl, really pretty. Hmm, its 3:45m, where is that boy? I’d bet my finest broom that he got caught up in another Weasley chess match.

We have plans with the Weasley’s for dinner next week, such a lovely family, I feel just horrible about all of the rude things I’ve said about them before. Even Hermione, although she is now a Weasley as well.

Someone is standing next to me. I look up and shield my eyes from the blinding sunlight.

“Oh Ron, how wonderful to see you.” What a surprise. Ron and I have become well acquainted these past few years. Such a nice fellow.

“Hello Draco, what are you doing here today?” He asks doubtfully as he sits down next to me.

“Oh, how funny you should ask, why I’m waiting for Harry, he’s awful late again.”

Ron sighs, “Draco, you know as well as I do that Harry has been dead for 3 years.”

I look down, “Yes, I know.”

“Please, Draco, you have to stop waiting for him.”

“But, you don’t understand, he told me to wait here for him, he said he’d be back.”

“Please stop doing this to yourself, please stop coming here, to wait for him, he won’t come.”

“I know,” I play with my wristwatch.

“Alright then, so I’ll see you at the Burrow for dinner next week, right?” Ron stands up.

“I wouldn’t miss it for the world.” We shake hands.

“Are you coming then?” He asks.

“In a bit, it’s almost 4:00, I’ll wait just a little more.” I sit again.

Ron sighs and walks away.

End Draco’s POV

Yes, yes, I know we’ve been watching the boy for a long time. Maybe it’s time to go home. It’s getting dark now. What’s that? You want to watch him some more? Well all right, but just for a little more. What? You want to wait for whomever he’s waiting for? Don’t be silly, that would take forever, after all, if you had been watching him, you would know that no one ever comes.
