Moments in Time
Hallelujah
Big thanks to Dracodew17 for betaing :)
Hallelujah
The casket was carried through the cemetery by Hermione’s four best male friends Harry, Ron, Neville, and Remus, none aware of the piercing gray eyes watching them from beneath a tree behind the congregation.
*I\'ve heard there was a secret chord*
Teary-eyed witches and wizards sobbed openly at the loss of someone so young. It was dark days in the wizarding world, yet no one expected Hermione to be the first of the golden trio to fall.
*That David played, and it pleased the Lord*
She had surpassed every goal that had ever been set in front of her, and defied convention by being an even stronger witch than her pureblooded counterparts. It was Professor McGonagall who stood first at the podium to sing the praises of a witch she proclaimed to be the finest student she ever had the pleasure of teaching.
*But you don\'t really care for music, do you? *
There was no end to those who stood to speak of the kind-hearted witch who had touched the lives of man and beast alike.
*It goes like this, the fourth, the fifth*
It was finally Ron and Harry who spoke to the throng with tear-filled eyes, proclaiming that this isn’t what Hermione would have wanted. “She had always said that we must go on, it wasn’t her that was destined to defy the dark; she was merrily there to lend a hand.” So before the crowd, the two remaining boys pledged to continue the fight in Hermione’s honor.
*The minor fall, the major lift*
As the funeral ended, the crowd was shocked to see Draco step forward and place a single red rose on Hermione’s casket before she was lowered into the earth. Without a word, he left the cemetery and the curious onlookers behind.
*The baffled king composing Hallelujah*
From the inside of his limo, a single tear slid down his face as he watched dirt being shoveled into her grave. With a nod he motioned for the driver to go.
*Hallelujah, Hallelujah*
*Hallelujah, Hallelujah*
The drive back to the manor was long and winding through the countryside. As the shadow of trees passed outside, shadows of the past crept into Draco’s mind.
*Your faith was strong but you needed proof*
He remembered the first time he truly saw her as an equal and not just as the Mudblood friend of Potter’s. It was seventh year and she had thought she was alone on the astronomy roof as she danced in the rain.
*You saw her bathing on the roof*
Little did she know the secluded spot was one of his favorites places to get away from the world. Her body seemed to radiate it’s own light in the darkness despite what his father had always said about muggle-borns being the filth of the earth, not fit to wipe a pureblood\'s shoe. There in the darkness, Granger looked more like a Greek goddess than the hideous creature he was led to believe.
*Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you*
Stunned by her beauty, Draco never noticed her brandish her wand and aim it directly at him. With determination clear in her eyes, Hermione forced him off the roof and back into the astronomy tower. Once inside she wasted no time in binding him to the nearest seat.
*She tied you to a kitchen chair *
“What the hell were you doing on the roof, Malfoy?” Hermione asked, the anger apparent in her voice. Yet Draco sat silently in the chair, which only seemed to infuriate her more.
“Did you get a good look, Malfoy? Never would have figured you to spy on a Mudblood. We are, after all, below you,” she spat.
Deciding on a new tactic, she moved behind him and firmly gripped the back of his head.
Clutching his shoulder length blonde hair in her hand, Hermione quickly cast a severing charm. The anger rose inside him as his considerably shorter hair now hung in his eyes. He simply glared at her.
*She broke your throne, she cut your hair*
Fingering the tresses remaining in her hand, Hermione bent over and whispered in his ear, “Stop trying to be your father, Draco. It’s not very becoming.” The shock of hearing his name fall from her lips was nothing compared to the surprise he got when she kissed him full on the lips before leaving the room.
*And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah*
It took Draco several minutes to register the fact that he was no longer tied up, and free to leave at any time.
*Hallelujah, Hallelujah*
*Hallelujah, Hallelujah*
For reasons unknown to him, Draco bid the driver to take him to Hermione’s apartment instead of the manor. In less than an hour the car stopped before a gray building slowly being consumed by the ivy growing on its walls.
*Maybe I\'ve been here before*
All the times they had met, Draco had never seen the outside of her home. Their meetings were always a private affair kept from public eyes. A quick Alohomora cast and he slipped unnoticed into the living room.
*I know this room; I\'ve walked this floor*
There were so many memories here, both good and bad. In the month since graduation from Hogwarts, Draco had spent more time here with Hermione, basking in her light, than in the darkness of the manor, which since his father died, he had become lord and master.
*I used to live alone before I knew you*
A smile crept across his face as he spotted her Gryffindor pennant hanging proudly over the fireplace for all to see.
*I\'ve seen your flag on the marble arch*
His smile faded as he looked to the kitchen where it had all ended. She wanted more than a night at a time; she wanted something he couldn’t give, marriage.
*Love is not a victory march*
Turning away from the memories of what could have been, Draco turned to walk down the hallway.
*It\'s a cold and it\'s a broken Hallelujah*
*Hallelujah, Hallelujah*
*Hallelujah, Hallelujah*
Looming before him was Hermione’s four-poster bed where the two had spent endless nights in each other\'s company, some nights simply talking for hours on end.
*There was a time you let me know*
He had never hid anything from her, even the night he took the Dark Mark.
*What\'s real and going on below*
She looked away in disgust, yet with tearfilled eyes she gave herself to him knowing when saw the phoenix etched against her skin, it would be the last.
*But now you never show it to me, do you?*
Draco recalled the feeling of her smooth skin as he placed soft kisses along her body, each sending a shudder down her spine. She tasted sweet as his tongue made its ways through her tender folds. Savoring the taste of her juices, he shared it with her as he claimed her lips.
The need was obvious on both sides as he entered her causing her to arch her back to meet his every thrust.
*And remember when I moved in you?*
Riding on the edge of euphoria with the impending climax, it was then that the Dark Lord chose then to summon him, yet the summons went unanswered as the pain felt at that moment simply heightened the pleasure of their love making.
*The holy dark was moving too*
Sated and sweaty, the two remained clutching to each other as the world spun around them.
*And every breath we drew was Hallelujah*
*Hallelujah, Hallelujah*
*Hallelujah, Hallelujah*
That had been months ago, and yet the memory of that night still followed him bringing a smile to his face.
*Maybe there\'s a God above *
In the end, though, it hadn’t been enough.
*And all I ever learned from love *
Her scent still hung in the air as the memory of the last time he looked upon her face swept down on him. She stood before him with her wand drawn in that alley. She had the upper-hand, yet in the end she couldn’t do it and lowered her wand. His orders were clear, he was to end it before she proved to be any more of a distraction to him than she already was, and he did. The words were no more than a whisper, yet the effect of the jet of green light was unmistakable. His job was done. She was dead.
*Was how to shoot at someone who outdrew you*
A video on Hermione’s side table caught his attention. It was simply labeled Baby Malfoy. Curious to the tape\'s contents, he forced himself to remember how to use Tv and Vcr. Confident he had managed to get it to work, he sat back and watched as the screen remained dark yet filled with the white outline of an unborn child.
*It\'s not a cry you can hear at night *
Realization thundered in his mind. She had been pregnant, with his child.
*It\'s not somebody who\'s seen the light*
It had not been one life he had ended, but two.
*Its a cold and its a broken Hallelujah*
*Hallelujah, Hallelujah*
*Hallelujah, Hallelujah*
*Hallelujah, Hallelujah*
*Hallelujah, Hallelujah*
